My sister watches the television channel Fuse, and I always hear them talking about Mosh Pits with all their little emo bands. I'd just like to say this.

You don't mosh to fall out boy. Or to eminem. Or to Flaming stanley or w/e.

THIS is a freakin mosh pit

Eh, that's not that great. They aren't really moshing as much as they are flailing about. I prefer circle pits. To this day, Goldfinger's "wall of death" mosh pit is the best I've seen. Maybe Anti-Flag's circle pit at Warped this year.

The worst I saw was at a Fall Out Boy concert and people were moshing to Cobra Starship and Metro Station. You don't mosh to Cobra Starship and Metro Station. You just don't. And they were moshing to Hey Monday. I mean, what? Why would you do that? No one moshed to Fall Out Boy, really, and the moshing to All Time Low was minimal. It was still really weird though. Some chick's weave got ripped out by a Pete Wentz loving SIF.

There was a really epic one when I saw Rise Against, though. It was great.

You haven't seen a real mosh pit till you've been at Warped Tour.
I'm not much into the hardcore bands, so I try to stay away from them.
I saw the Anti-Flag pit that everyone was talking about from a distance, though I didn't venture near it myself.
I've been in the edge of a mosh pit before, there was a pretty bad one during Anberlin last year at Warped Tour, but there was kind of like a metal railing thing between me and the mosh pit, so it was ok.
Mosh pits don't look THAT bad and you don't really have to be in one if you don't want to, and I think you have to be pretty stupid if you want to.
I hate intense pushing and crowd surfers MUCH more, and most of the time those are unavoidable.

And don't diss the so called "emo bands". I'm a huge fan of Fall Out Boy, but people generally don't make mosh pits for them. Lots of pushing and shoving to the point that you can't breathe, sure, but not mosh pits. And I wouldn't exactly call bands like Fall Out Boy emo. Though the emo label is such a finicky thing these days and every person in the world seems to have a different definition in their head of what emo is.

Disagree completely.

You haven't seen a Mosh Pit till you've been to Ozzfest.
Metal is the only music that mosh pits make sense to me.
:)
Hatebreed usually does have some insane ones, but Lamb Of Gods wall of death was the most insane one I've ever BEEN in.

Best mosh pits I've seen where to Slayer, Lamb Of God, and Heaven shall Burn.

The best I've been in was at a show that featured Napalm Death, Chimaira, and Suicide Silence.

Best wall of death = Lamb Of God.

I agree the video I used as an example wasn't that great but all i did was go to Youtube and type in HateBreed Mosh and copypasta'd the first one that came up soo... In a moment I'll post some REAL mosh pits.

Edit: misspelled Chimaira

Well I feel the same. Just opposite and without the "kinda" part.

I'd take Ozzfest over any other fest any day.
I haven't been to any other festival that is so powerful and energy filled. :)
Though, I don't listen to metal as much as I did a couple years ago..I still would rather listen to Metal than the music at Warped Tour.
hahahhaa

Ya Ozzfest is pretty sick, but I'll never go to another. Simply by principal. I saw the most atrocious thing at Ozzfest.

Same here. The thing I like about Warped is that it really has something for everyone. Well not EVERYONE, but a lot of people can really enjoy it and it's not an insanely intense environment.

I'm 16, there's no way I'm going to ozzfest or anything like that, it's just not my cup of tea.
It's kind of silly that we're arguing (debating?) about music festivals and mosh pits. But whatever.

Rise Against mosh pit = crazy!
The craziest I've been in is the Chiodos mosh at Warped. I left when they want us to split up and run at someone across from us. They also tried to set a record for most crowd surfers. Ahh. And Story of the Year.

I was at this basement show last month and there were maybe 100 people in this room. It was hilarious. Everyone was moshing for SIX HOURS.

Story of the Year, now THAT was a scary crowd...I was smashed up against a wall for pretty much their whole set and I couldn't breathe. One of the security guys helped lift me over and get me out of there haha. I could see a crazy pit a few feet away from me though and it looked pretty insane.

They are crazy! I didn't get to see a big one though. It was at Warped Tour and they were the first set so basically no one was there. But for the people they had it was awesome. I got to meet them and hang out so I guess I picked them as my favorite for that.:P

Very. When I saw them, it kept expanding back. Even when I wasn't in it, I got elbowed in the face.

I think mosh pits get a bad name.

Moshing is the medium of expression for HEAVY METAL music

It's not about being brutal. It's not about being kicked in the teeth. It's about expressing the music. That's why I take offense when it's used in a hollow and dissillusioning fashion. It's a strictly metal expression. That's why I take offense to someone moshing at a hardcore or screamo show. It's not hardcore. It's not screamo. It's not punk. It's metal. Anyone who says otherwise is a ****ing poser. Do not argue with me on this point, for you will lose. End of ****ing story.

I don't understand why it would actually OFFEND you. You're not the dictator of the music world or something - people have a right to do whatever they damn well please. If people at hardcore/screamo/punk shows want to mosh, then let them mosh! I don't see how it even makes a difference. It's fine if you think it's lame or stupid but I think it's pretty stupid to categorize moshing into only being acceptable for ONE genre of music. Who cares if it's not "used" the way you want to? People like to get crazy and have fun at shows and if it makes their experience more enjoyable then isn't that all that matters? You gotta respect that everyone likes different music.

The actual meaning of mosh is violent dancing not a term in metal music where people express the music through their dancing. I should know that cause my sister looked up the definition when she was proving a similar point to a friend. Nobody is trying to offend you.(:

lol I didn't write that. Not sure who did but I have my suspicions.

Left MMW open when I went to bed and woke up and this was there, and the only other person who listens to metal is my uncle. And he's like the Nazi of everything so...

Can't say I don't agree with it, though I would have worded it quite differently.

edit: he just woke up and I asked him if he did it.

He's denying it vehemently but I know it was him. he was drunk last night so he probly doesn't remember.

Moshing to punk is very acceptable. Circle pitting to ska/punk is also acceptable.

I wouldn't exactly call this a mosh pit, but it happens at many shows these days. It's really packed and people just kind of dance around and bump into each other.

Most pits look so scary :o and I'd probably get trampled on, heh. Not that I'd ever go to concert that would have one...
