GRUNGY EFFECT
Ok, this is a tutorial on how to get that grungy, punk look for your graphics.
1. Ok, first off we open a new image. I'll be using the one here (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/Anime/grunge1.jpg).
2. Click Ctrl & A or copy & paste the whole image. Then go to >File -> New. The dimensions should already be input for you, otherwise just put in the same dimensions as your original. Your image can be either RGB or Grayscale.
3. Now go to Image -> Mode -> Grayscale. It'll ask you if you wish to Discard Color Information. Clikck OK.
4. Now go to Image -> Mode -> Bitmap. It'll ask if you wanna Flatten Images, click ok. Then there'll be a new box popping up again. Fill in these fields with these digits;
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/BR/tut/grunge1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/BR/tut/grunge2.jpg
You can change the shape to whatever you wish. This is my result (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/Anime/grunge2.jpg) so far.
*You might notice your image has gotten bigger, don't worry. You just need to resize it to its original dimensions*
5. Now click Ctrl & A or copy & paste the whole image again. Then go back to your first original image (the one that isn't black and white.)
6. Paste the "grunged" image on top of your original, so that you've two layers.
7. You can set the top layer (grunged layer), to Overlay or Soft Light. Personally, i think Soft Light is better, and so i used it for my image. You can adjust the Opacity to your liking.
And so this (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/Anime/grunge3.jpg) is my finished result.

SWIRL BACKGROUND
Ok, this is a simple step-by-step tutorial on how to make a cool swirl as a background for an image.
1. Make a new image, I'll be using an 800 by 600 pixel. You may use any two colours you wish, I've chosen blue and white.
2. Using the Paintbox, fill in the canvas in the top colour (blue, or your desired colour).
3. Go to Filter -> Render -> Clouds. Then Filter -> Render -> Difference Clouds. Do this twice if the colour's gone different.
*You should have something like this*
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/swirl01.jpg
4. Duplicate your layer. Then select the 1st Layer you have.
5. Now go to Filter -> Distort -> Twirl. A box like this should come up. Set it to these settings. Then click OK.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/swirl02.bmp
6. Repeat Step 5 in the 2nd Layer you've made. But change the 700 to -700
7. Now, while being on the top Layer, change its Blending to Overlay.
*Look for the Overlay button*

8. You're finished! Here is my result.

PRETTY BLEND 1
So now i'm gonna show yoo one of my styles; pretty blending! This uses one texture and usually 2-4 images.
1. Open a new canvas, (400x300). Copy and paste the images yoo want to use (eg of Miley) and place them where yoo like.
Yoo can now edit your image to suit your liking (eg; deleting parts, Layer Modes etc)
Yoo can Flatten Image if yoo like.
This is my image now:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/LilMusica/Miley/blend1/mile1.jpg
2. Now add a new transparent layer on top, and fill in with a72551.
Yoo can also pick your own colour, again to your liking and even fiddle with Colors --> Colourize.
Set your colour to Lighten Mode, at around 80-100 Opacity.
This is my image now:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/LilMusica/Miley/blend1/mile2.jpg
3. Now add a border around the whole image, in a new layer. Select --> Select All. Edit --> Stroke Selection --> 3/4 px.
Yoo can add your font now, i chose "Shmilerz" in Dead Secretary font. Place it where yoo like, add a border if yoo want.
This is my image now:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/LilMusica/Miley/blend1/mile3.jpg
4. Now open up the texture, TEXTURE (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/LilMusica/Miley/blend1/Glitter_by_Ermenelwen.jpg). Copy and paste it on top of your layers.
Set it to Screen Mode, 70-90 Opacity. I chose Opacity 85.
Move it around until yoo like where its sitting. And voila! Yoo're done!!
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/LilMusica/Miley/blend1/mile4.jpg
*NB just fiddle around with settings like Opacity, Layer Modes for the texture and different colour combos*

Rainbow Border Wallpaper [*GIMP*]
So this is quite a tricky tutorial/technique so feel free to ask questions if you're lost. This style uses 4-6 images or 3 large images, some stock images, one specific texture and one specific brush.
I'm scaling my image down to fit in the tutorial.
1. Open a new canvas (1024x768). Copy and paste the rainbow texture, http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4724/rainbowwave2.png. Place it more near the bottom half of the canvas, making sure both sides go off the canvas.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/BR/tut/rain1.jpg
2. Copy and paste the pictures you want to use (eg of Miley) and place them where ya like, spacing them out along and behind the rainbow in your desired positions. If you're using images with white background, set them all to Multiply, otherwise try to delete their background or change the Main Background colour to match.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/BR/tut/rain2.jpg
3. With another few pictures, copy and paste them so that they're the top layers, but again behind the rainbow. Go to Colors --> Desaturate --> Luminosity. Set their Layer Modes to Multiply too. Your wallpaper should look like this.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/BR/tut/rain3.jpg
4. Now, where the black/white images overlap the coloured ones, erase carefully around the coloured ones with a Circle Fuzz (11) at scale 1.50.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/BR/tut/rain4.jpg
5. Open your stock images, size them down and copy and paste them to where you like. I'm using these 1 (http://manondesign.deviantart.com/art/11-Ben-Jerry-Icecream-Stocks-154484016) 2 (http://star-artista.deviantart.com/art/Yummy-sweets-7-pngs-155361405) 3 (http://hellotherelily.deviantart.com/art/Cold-Treats-PNGS-155568153) 4 (http://gwendo0.deviantart.com/art/cuuts-2-151199217)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/BR/tut/rain4a.jpg
6. At this point ya can start editing colours and Layer Modes to your liking. I'll be using Colors --> Curves. I also like to match my colouring to the stock, and sometimes the rainbow too. But this is optional.
When everything looks perfect, go to Image --> Merge Visible Layers --> Clipped to image. Should look something like this, all in one layer.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/BR/tut/rain5.jpg
7. Now add a new layer with white background below your graphic. Then, open this brush in a new window, http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2824/smokeir.jpg Resize it to around 750x1000 (widthXheight). Now copy and paste it to your wallpaper window and move it between the main graphic and the white background.
8. Set the graphic layer mode to Lighten Only. And set the brush to Multiply. You'll now see that your graphic is "hiding". Continue to copy and paste/duplicate the brush and set to Multiply below the graphic, moving it around until ya can see the graphic again.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y161/LilSuicide/BR/tut/rain6.jpg
9. Finally add some text above all the layers, position and edit it however you like. And then you're done!!
