Miley Cyrus tops country music chart

http://image.examiner.com/images/blog/wysiwyg/image/mileytop.jpg
Miley Cyrus is at least temporarily the queen of country music

Miley Cyrus gave way to Rick Ross and “Deeper than Rap” on the Billboard Top 200, but claimed the No. 1 CD on the Billboard Country Album chart. (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/chart_display.jsp?g=Albums&f=Top+Country+Albums)
She replaces Rascal Flatts at the top of the country chart, which has a hit with their latest CD, “Unstoppable.”
The No. 1 soundtrack to “Hannah Montana: The Movie” includes two songs by Rascal Flatts, “Backwards” and “Bless the Open Roads.”
Her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, contributes “Back to Tennessee” to the soundtrack, Taylor Swift performs “Crazier” and Steve Rushton contributes “Everything I Want” and “Game Over.”
The remaining tracks on the CD feature either Miley as herself or as the Hannah Montana character.
Miley’s last appearance in the country Top 10 was “Ready, Set, Don’t Go,” a 2007 duet with Billy Ray.
Her dad is a veteran country music performer, having placed three albums and seven singles in the country Top 10.

I didn't know it was even possible for a label to change an albums genre after it was released. lol.
I thought disney said they weren't going to let her do country. lol, then why did they change the genre to country? lol

not that I'm complaining but either it was country from the beginning or it wasn't lol. I can't believe they're allowed to do that lol. nothings changed so how are they alllowed to change the genre lol

but if disney's trying to keep the idea of Miley going into country music out of peoples heads they're not doing a good job of it. they've got the most listened to pop station in the country playing the country version of her song and now they're changing the albums genre. lol

And - RD is playing Taylor almost non-stop. Are they saying the soundtrack is Country, or some kind of a crossover-mix kinda' thing?

RD always played Taylor non stop, well for the last year. Miley/Hannah, JB's and Taylor is all they ever play lol.

it can't be on the country billboard chart unless its in the country genre. Country music is the only genre that has its own albums chart(becuase Country Music is not only its own genre but its own industry).

I guess disney was album to change it because Billy, Taylor and Rascal Flatts are all country stars and in theory all of Miley's songs on there are country pop. the only pop stuff is the hannah stuff and steve rushton.

joecyrusfan
04-30-2009, 11:37 AM
I have no idea why they put him on there "steve rushton." he just did not fit in to this soundtrack IMO. and this soundtrack had more of a country genre feel to it IMO.

That's just one example of the oddities on the album. Other than a moment in the Sweet 16 party scenes, they hardly used his two songs ...

04-30-2009, 11:49 AM
HR is trying to launch Steves career, the problem is that he didnt' really fit on the soundtrack.

I really am curious if there is anything reason behind the genre switch of the soundtrack or if were just reading too much into it.

There was nothing wrong with the songs he did, but it was glaringly out of step with the rest of it.

Maybe. Most things just seem to come down to $$, so they’re probably viewing it as a way to push more sales ...

flutesinger262
04-30-2009, 12:20 PM
thats wierd to get sales by putting it in the country genre lol. maybe they wanted Miley to have a number 1 album on the country chart lol.

really, really wierd thing disney is going to have to look at because its to huge to ingnore is that since z100 started playing the country version of the climb Miley's audience for the song(meaning people listened to the entire thing instead of turn the radio off or changing the station) has risen by over 5 million listeners lol. I don't know why that is but its extremely wierd

flutesinger262
04-30-2009, 12:44 PM
yeah. all stations should be playing that version. disney pulled the piano version of the climb from radio and released an acoustic version for radios to play. so now all that should be playing are the acoustic version or the country version

so billboard explained why its on the country chart. I might be misunderstanding this but apparent either disney or miley's repersentatives wanted the album put on the country chart. so billboard reviewed the content of the album and ruled that between miley, billy ray, taylor and rascal flatts half the albums tracks were country and so they let it go on the country chart:
http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/chart_beat/bonus.jsp?JSESSIONID=vqhlJ6QL2RxmyftjtpHRXsvTDKZ82 DyPHtWkpcdTJplQXpnQXfnB!-2075346275
HANNAH MONTANA MOVES TO THE COUNTRY: Wondering why the "Hannah Montana: the Movie" soundtrack suddenly debuts at No. 1 on Top Country Albums - despite the fact that it's appeared on the Billboard 200 for five weeks?

It's not entirely unusual that an album will be brought onto a genre-specific chart after its initial release, as a title's content is always subject for review by Billboard's charts department, informed by input from record labels and/or artist representatives.

In this case, about half of the album's tracks are stylistically appropriate for the country genre, therefore meeting the minimum requirements to chart. The set also sports current Hot Country Songs hits from Miley Cyrus ("The Climb," No. 33) and dad Billy Ray ("Back to Tennessee," No. 48), along with tunes from core country acts Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift.

When was the last time a soundtrack held sway over Top Country Albums? Way back on June 29, 2002, when "O Brother, Where Are Thou?" spent its 35th and final week atop the list.

where does it need to be ripped from?

i cant do videos, but audio anyone should be able to do.

you have a PC, let the pc record it whilst its playing, there used to be a setting under audio recordings to record from the audio mapper i think it was called, so if youve got ANY software that can record like wave blaster opr sound forge, you just play whatever you want and tell the program to record whats playing, and then save it.

i dont know if that still works or if it does under VISTA etc.

or theres always audio out cable to audio in jack and record it or audio out to a DVD recorder etc.... :/ sorry dont know what else to suggest but maybe SeSaSe will know? as he is cool with stuff like that. :)

rights are blocked...:/ oh i didnt figure on that one.

I dont actually copy music, it was years ago when i wanted to rip sound from films and put them in games is how i learned before, sorry. :/

but it was worth a try!

if you have a DVD recorder or CD recorder thats standalone, you could just get cables from your PC to the device and record that way, they opnly cost $1.50 here so about the same wherever you are I guess, all you would need is a cable that has stereo audio jack to stereo phonos, one end goes into the PC other end into the recorder, press play/rec and there you go! then just put the disc into the PC and you can play/copy/convert it from there.

sorry again, ive only actually heard 1 v of the song, and thats the single version? I bought the CD Singles yesterday, but again cant play it yet.

you probably didn't read the entire thread.
basically to classify the album as country, half the alubm must be country. Billboard reviewed the HM content and I guess between Miley's music, and the country artists half the album was country. i don't believe they looked at the Hannha songs lol.
I think they can definately get away with saying half that album is country.

Last week in Billboard (2 now i guess? as the Uk is behind), Miley and The Climb was on these charts.

Hot Country #44,
Pop 100 - #09,
Hot 100 - #08,
MainStream 40 - #19
Hot Digital #03
Adult Contemporary #18
and Hot Ring Masters at #11, and the week before she was on this chart at #15 they said in the magazine it was her HIGHESt chart position ever on this chart, Miley has featured in the magazine 3 or 4 issues back to back.

It costs too much to buy it in the UK though. :/ but those are GREAT positions even though ive never heard of most of those charts.

I wonder where she is on the charts in this weeks issue? and if they will print a picture or say something again? :) (there was other songs on the charts too I havent listed them here though).

O rats
Bob Dylan just left Miley Cyrus blowing in the proverbial wind.
The grizzled folk-rock icon landed his second-straight No. 1 album, selling 125,000 copies of Together Through Life, per Nielsen SoundScan, rendering the Cyrus-fueled Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack a distant second.
The Disneyfied release moved 86,000,

And thw good news is .

The soundtrack to “Hannah Montana: The Movie” remains the No. 1 country music album this week, according to Billboard.
Miley Cyrus continues to make the rounds to promote the movie, the soundtrack and “The Climb,” the most successful single from the album.
She is balancing the promo stops among such demands as school, work on the “Hannah Montana” TV set and pre-production work on her next movie, “Last Song.”
“(I am) listening to The Beatles and feeling inspired to write a song,” Miley twittered. “i want someone to write a song like ‘Woman’ by John Lennon for me. That is so romantic.”

Next week she might drop out of the top five of the Billboard 200 I think though.
funny you should say that, Hits Daily Double thinks she might be number 1 next week. I always laugh when people refer to her as a diva hahaha:lol::
THREE INTO #1 COULD GO (http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news07572m01)

Chrisette Michele and Ciara Debuts, Will Vie with Hanna Montana for Top Spot

May 6, 2009

Three very different divas hold the key to next week’s HITS Album Sales chart race.
A pair of debuts from LaFace/JLG’s Ciara and Def Jam/IDJ’s Chrisette Michele will be next week’s top chart newcomers, each looking to score in the 70-80k range.

Ciara’s Fantasy Ride, her third album, will benefit from her Saturday Night Live performance this weekend, while Chrisette’s Epiphany, the follow-up to her 2007 debut I Am, should see action after being priced at $2.99 all week at Amazon.

The race for #1 could come down to a three-way race between those two and Disney’s Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack, which could emerge as a dark horse with increased Mother’s Day store traffic from dad and the kids.

anyways i think everyone was expecting Ciara to be number 1 but it looks like shes not as big as people thought, or as big as she once was( I think her last album debuted with 300k)

N.E.R.D. is Pharell Williams basically, you're bound to know him. Sort of a rock band by R&B artists if that makes sense.

Ciara's last album came out three years ago which is rather long ago. Too long a time between albums isn't always good, especially not if her name isn't big enough to really create a buzz around it.

loook whoses expected to be number 1 this week!!! yay Miles and holy crap at Taylor still be being in the top 10 lol:
OUR MOTHER’S DAY WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: The big question going into this quasi-holiday weekend is, which hit albums will Americans give their moms this year? Will people realize that Devil Wears Prada isn’t a femme-skewing soundtrack but an anti-materialist Christian metal-core band? Here's how the top of the chart looks as we head into the home stretch:

Hannah Montana: The Movie (Walt Disney) 80-85k
Chrisette Michele (Def Jam/IDJ debut) 80-85k
Ciara (Jive/JLG debut) 75-80k
Rascal Flatts (Lyric Street) 45-50k
Rick Ross (Def Jam/IDJ) 35-40k
Lady GaGa (Interscope) 35-40k
Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 35-40k
Bob Dylan (Columbia) 30-35k
*Ben Harper & Relentless7 (Virgin debut) 27-32k
Twilight (Chop Shop/Atlantic) 27-32k
*Devil Wears Prada (Ferret debut) 25-30k
Now 30 (UMe) 25-30k

well it was like this in janurary too, thats how Taylor got a lot of her weeks at number 1, by selling 80-90K a week and that being enough to top the chart.

kind ot but poor Billy will be out of the billboard 200 this week :(. Even Breakout sold more copies then Billy's new CD last week :(. I wouldn't be surprised if hes dropped from the disney's label at this point, hes not going to even sell 50,000 copies total. he might not even sell 30,000

Somehow I doubt they would drop him as long as he's on Hannah Montana. I doubt it's in his contract that he has to be signed to Walt Disney records to be on the show but I think they would want him (and his daughter) to be happy as long as he's on the show. His album was never going to sell much and I think Disney knew that.

That way they can also (ab)use him for other promotional things around Hannah Montana.

flutesinger262
05-11-2009, 11:22 AM
I really hope they don't. they're the reason it did so bad, they kept screwing with the release date.

they need to release Butterfly Fly Away once the climb is done on country radio. Thats the only way they can get more sales out of that CD. It will help Miley too, but they've got to wait until the climb has run its course or they'll hurt her airplay

apogeum
05-11-2009, 11:29 AM
I wouldn't blame the release date; honestly I don't really think that anyone who bought the album minded it being pushed back. Was referring more to the quality factor of it all, being too Disney in parts.

flutesinger262
05-11-2009, 12:11 PM
thats also true. half of it was covers and it was all too overproduced for country music.

Home at Last still got decent reviews; Back To Tennessee not really. Wanna Be Your Joe also got worse reviews than Home At Last and that didn't sell as often either. So I think Billy Ray pretty much survives on good reviews now and a little boost he got from HM on Home at Last. So if he doesn't get good reviews he doesn't sell.

I guess he's the kind of artist people know but only buy if it's worth it.

flutesinger262
05-11-2009, 12:29 PM
I still think that the fact that Home At Last had a top 3 hit on it was part of why it sold that much. They've got to at least try with Butterfly Fly Away. I assume they will since there is no point in it being there unless its going to be released as a single.

I didn't get that either, seems odd that they'd give his daughter the freedom to write her own stuff but not him. Besides Butterfly Away, Back to Tennessee is probably the best track on there though.

Sucks that the sales chart isn't available today though, they have some issues at Hits Daily Double.

Back to Tennesse is a very good song. Billy Ray's always been a great songwriter and as much as I love miley, Billy Ray is better at it then she is yet they let her write her songs and won't him do that. its stupid.

the sales chart is always like that early on monday, it should be available tonightt or late in the afternoone.

Somebody said a prayer is good too. Thats the problem, they have 3 good songs on there and 2 of them have already been released as singles, the 3rd probably will be and the rest of it is pretty bad.

The technical difficulties bit isn't there usually, normally there is another thing that says that you have to wait a bit longer.

Miley is 16 though, she will get there sooner or later. I don't know whether they tell him what to put on that album though, if they don't let him do what he wants I think he would be the one handing in his contract and not Disney releasing him.

sadly they do that here too albums for 5.99 whilst others are 13.99, and like LadyGaGa singles are 29p and Miley's are 1.99.

its not really fair, they are going for chart positions and cheap sales rateher than genuine stuff, butlabels have done stuff like that for YEARS, they got told off for chart fixing by releasing multiple formats, and freebies, like if say there was a band and they had 4 ppl, and 2 was brothers, they would release like 1 format with all 4 on the cover, 4 formats with 1 of each, and 1 of the bros, so thats 7 copies the fans have to buy. and the chart company stopped that.

but now the hit40UK is based on downloads and airplay and it doesnt use CD sales anymore, its easier to fix. after all the companies that run the charts also own the channels. :/

back on topic!! weow its AWESOME the Album is doing so GREAT!! they actualyl ran a tv advert for it yesterday!! erm TESCO not Disney. and its a really AWESOME Advert! :) and the CD has sdold out 3 times in the main store I go to and Breakout has way gone back up their charts! :)

On Billboard.com it's even closer, 83,000 vs 82,000. Chrisette Michelle broke a record though, lowest debut on #1 in the Billboard 200 in eighteen years.

Next week she'll be behind the HM soundtrack though, she'll drop far more. Though I don't think that will make HM #1 as too much stuff is coming out.

Chrisette Michele's Epiphany Big Enough to Top Hannah Montana

Today 11:05 AM PDT

If you hope to keep Hannah Montana down, apparently you need a Grammy winner, a Hall of Famer and a rap boss.

Since topping the charts four weeks ago, the Miley Cyrus-powered Hannah Montana: The Movie has been pushed back to No. 2 by a different artist each week. This time around it was Grammy-winning R&B singer Chrisette Michele.

Her sophomore disc, Epiphany, gave Michele her first career No. 1, selling 83,000 copies, per Nielsen SoundScan, for the week ended Sunday. Hannah Montana trailed at No. 2, fewer than 2,000 copies behind.

In previous weeks, Ms. Montana fell to Bob Dylan (http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/celebs/c109149_Bob_Dylan.html)'s Together Through Life and Rick Ross' Deeper Than Rap, which currently sit at Nos. 5 and 8, respectively.

Michele is doubtlessly jazzed to hit No. 1, but her success comes with a major caveat. Her 83,000-copy open is the worst-selling No. 1 bow in SoundScan history, which started tracking sales in 1991. In fact, during SoundScan's 18 years, only two other albums debuted atop the charts with less than six-figure sales: Notorious B.I.G. (http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/celebs/c115008_Notorious_BIG.html)'s #1's (99,000 discs) in '05 and Johnny Cash's American V: A Hundred Highways (88,000) in '06.

There's also a bit of bad news for another R&B starlet cracking the Top 10. Despite a red-hot performance on last weekend's Saturday Night Live, Ciara (http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/celebs/c109611_Ciara.html) debuted at No. 3 with a career-low 81,000 opening-week copies for Fantasy Ride. Ciara's previous low was 125,000 first-week copies for her 2004 rookie bow, Goodies.

Ben Harper scored the third and final Top 10 debut with White Lies for Dark Times selling 34,000 copies at No. 9. White Lies also topped the Digital Albums chart by selling 15,000 of those copies as downloads.

Just missing the Top 10, Bible-thumpin' metallers the Devil Wears Prada sold 31,000 copies of With Roots Above and Branches Below at No. 11. To show that faith doesn't make 'em soft, the band recruited Dan Seagrave (Morbid Angel, Decrepit Birth) to illustrate the album cover.

Despite the historic lows at the top of the charts, overall sales were actually up over 5 percent from last week thanks to kids gifting their mothers with music. Still, the tally was down nearly 20 percent compared to the same Mother's Day week last year when Neil Diamond ruled the chart.

Here's a recap of the Top 10 albums:

Fantasy Ride, Ciara
Unstoppable, Rascal Flatts

Miley Cyrus retains grip at No. 1 on country music chart

May 13, 12:46 PM

http://image.examiner.com/images/blog/wysiwyg/image/miley(28).jpg

Miley Cyrus remains the current queen of country music this week as the soundtrack to "Hannah Montana: The Movie" logs its third week at No. 1 on the Billboard country music chart.

The movie itself dropped out of the Top 10 in box office receipts, but has pulled in $93.6 million, so far. DVD sales and broadcast license will follow at some point, so Walt Disney executives must be outdoing each other in waxing lyrical.

Over the years Miley's father, Billy Ray Cyrus, has taken two albums and one single to the top of the country charts.

His current album, "Back to Nashville," peaked earlier this year at No. 13.

Three of Billy Ray's children are involved in music. In addition to Miley, daughter Brandi spends time in the studio as a member of the all-female trio Frank Dereol, while son Braison recently made his debut as a drummer at a Universal City gig.

WOW thats AWESOME!! :) #1 for another week! :) And wow!! The movie is so close to $100Million EVERYONE stateside go watch it 25 times each :D

I found out something on TV today... apparantely Disney has only ever had ONE #1 single in its history and I think they said it was Pocahontas. (Hope I spelled that right!)

So if thats true and we could get Miley to #1 that wwould be a record breaker too! :)

Miley made another USA Chart erm history thing!! it said in Billboard magazines, she is the youngest person to get Top 10 on the adult contemporary charts since i think they said 1999. Almost matching Leann Rimes.

I tried to take photos of the mag in the store but i didnt buy it as its $10.approx.

Who is truly unstoppable? Rascal Flatts or Miley Cyrus?

Miley logs her third week in a row in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard country album chart; and logs in at No.2 on the all-genre Top 200.

No other country act is giving her much of a run for it. The soundtrack to “Hanna Montana: The Movie” still has legs . . . but be on the lookout for Reba, who could topple Miley when her album comes back.

It is a busy time for Miley. She was on the set of her TV series this week while making plans for her upcoming motion picture, “The Last Song,” scheduled to begin filming next month in Georgia.

Casting directors are still working on filling roles in the movie.

Not much has been said, lately, about another film project, “Further Adventures in Babysitting,” said to co-star Raven-Symone.

Another rumored cast member is Donta Storey, a 21-year-old relative newcomer.

Raven-Symone is best known as the star of the now-defunct TV series, “That’s So Raven.’

Miley Cyrus - Disney Phoro
After yielding one week to Kenny Chesney’s latest greatest hits package, Miley Cyrus has regained the No. 1 position on the Billboard country music album chart.

All in all, it makes for a good day for Miley, who announced an affordable fashion line to be distributed by Wal-Mart in time for back-to-school shopping, set new tour dates and topped it off by returning to No. 1 on the country chart.

Other recent good news included her winning the MTV Movie Award for Best Song from a Movie, signing up for another season of her “Hannah Montana” TV show and her continuing pre-production work for “The Last Song,” a motion picture that will test her talents as a dramatic actress.

Now, if she just didn’t suck at tennis!
