Miley Cyrus performed Shakespeare sonnets to prepare for 'Hannah Montana: The Movie'.
Director Peter Chelsom made the 16-year-old star follow drama school teaching techniques to keep her focused on her scenes, including avidly studying the Bard's famous works.
He said: "We did stuff before we started filming that was just the kind of stuff you'd do at drama school, you know. Did I give her a detention? No. I made her read a sonnet though. A Shakespeare sonnet. She said, 'Oh no I can't.' I said, 'Let's do it because it'll be the most difficult thing you'll ever do.' We did all that kind of stuff. It was remarkable.
"We used to have this code where I would say, 'This means focus, because I don't want to have to shout at you across the set!'"
Despite her young age, the 53-year-old British director is convinced Miley has a success career ahead of her.
He explained: "I think she has a real range, I think she's capable of like a 'Juno' film, I think she's capable of that, and I think she's here for the long run."
But Peter - who was an actor until he was 30 - admits working with the teenage actress-and-singer was a completely unique experience.
He added to BANG Showbiz: "It was crazy it was like nothing I've ever known. She has this amazing energy.
