View Full Version : Hannah Montana Movie Soundtrack expected to sell 120-130k this week

they're using 1st day sales for this, the soundtrack took a while to pick up yesterday so I'm hoping it will do a little better then this. I really hope it beats Now 30, I mean none of that is new music. Also I think they're basing this off the fact that HSM3's soundtrack did a lot worse then the two tv movie soundtracks. lets hope shes number 1. If it does sell what they're predicting then it will be by far a lot lower then any Miley albums or Hannah soundtrack:

NOW 30 AND HANNAH MONTANA DUEL FOR THE TOP

Keri Hilson, Papa Roach, Martina McBride, Blue October Also Set to Bow
March 25, 2009
It’s neck and neck next week for #1, with UMe’s Now 30 and Disney’s Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack duking it out for the top spot.
In the early going, give the venerable compilation series the edge, with a total of 130-140k, while Miley is right behind it with 120-130k.
A slew of titles will hit the charts next week, with more than half of the Top 20 looking like debuts, with Interscope R&B chanteuse Keri Hilson leading the way in the 80-90k range.
In addition, Legacy Editions’ massive multi-format Pearl Jam Ten reissue seems headed for 40-50k in first-week sales, with fan club and Amazon leading the way.
Geffen’s Papa Roach is up next at 45-50k, followed by RCA/Sony Music Nashville’s Martina McBride at 40-45k. Universal Motown’s Blue October and Columbia’s Jim Jones are looking at between 35-40k, while Reprise metal gods Mastodon appear to have a total in the 30-35k range.
Capitol Nashville’s Eric Church, E1’s Slim Thug, WB Nashville’s John Rich and Disney Pearl’s Yanni are all clustered in the 25-30k neighborhood.
Capitol’s Decemberists, who sold almost 20k at iTunes alone last week, make their physical debut with 20k, give or take a download or two. Vanguard’s Indigo Girls is looking at 15-20k, while UMe’s Now That’s What I Call Power Ballads should hit 12-15k.
Overall, the market was down 7% vs. last week, down 31% vs. same week last year and now off 14% to date. Brother, can you spare a $1.29 download?

Well, we did our part - I just went and bought it today. This album may not see a real spike in sales, but rather might be more a steady seller, with an up-turn right after the movie premiers ...

all we can hope that it Hannah Montana Movie Soundtrack makes it at #1 it's up to us fans to buy it to get it to #1 and hope she also can get some new fans to buy as well to .

well the previous hannah albums debuted at 270K+ but they were also steady sellers that both went triple platinum.
IDK the Climb sold 162K as a single its first week, the second it sold 150K. It would be wierd to see this not even out sell the amount of copies the single sold its first week. I mean for an album that they did not promote at all and that was leaked 3 weeks early in CD quality, I guess this is good. Its just I really want her to get number 1. Even if shes number 1 next week if thats what she sells the media is gonna give her a lot of crap.

130,000? That seems incredibly low. I find the estimate that they put out on Friday usually more reliable though.

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 05:05 PM
yeah I don't know how they got that, do they get that based on yesterdays sales? if so I do think thats going to be wrong since disney was screwing around with it all day on iTunes yesterday. I can't imagine it selling that low even without promotion and with it being leaked, that would be a pretty big disappointment,

apogeum
03-25-2009, 05:15 PM
They usually make those estimates based on trends. So what has happened in the past, if a certain album sells X number of times of day one they can make a rough guess about how much they'll sell in total. The Hannah Montana soundtrack might do better than expected due to the later picking up on iTunes yeah.

Sort of disappointed with the Blue October sales though (I ordered it yesterday); though that is probably also due to a very unfair review by Rolling Stone. Though the HM soundtrack didn't even get a mention there.

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 05:20 PM
also could they be taking into account what happened with HSM3? and applying that to this? because I have seen places doing that.

wow, that bites.
but I dunno if I'll really believe/accept that.

That's way too low a number for me, haha.
But I'll pray it's number one.
I got minez yesterday at walmart.

I also remember the NOW albums scoring numbers like 300,000 though. So also for them it would be incredibly low.

the best we can do is beg any of Miley's fans who downloaded the leak but didn't buy the soundtrack to go out and buy it.

I'm having a really hard time believing this as well.
I mean it didn't go number 2 on iTunes until like 6 or 7 pm last night, so it toook off really slow but if its number 1 on iTunes for the rest of the week I have a hard time believing it won't at least do 200K. I think it will be out now though. i think they made that prediction assuming that all Miley's fans when out and bought this yesterday, like they did in the past and they clearly didn't do that. At least not on iTunes or Amazon mp3.

I actually have a feeling that they're missing information in general. I mean it's not just the HM sales which are lower than normal but also the NOW sales are too low. Also Blue October should also be higher, their last album went platinum.

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 06:07 PM
I really hope your right because I just don't understand this.

apogeum
03-25-2009, 06:40 PM
If they're missing information that would also mean that the NOW sales could pick up though. Maybe it's the problem that I pointed out in another thread before; there were just way too many new releases this week. Not that most people would buy more than one of those albums (well I did but I doubt the majority does) but it might just lower it.

If no other explanation comes up; it's the economic crisis.

I haven't put much thought to this but I can think of four factors at play that might be affecting sales..

1. It's been leaked
2. Movie will hit theaters in a week
3. Movie DVD will come out in several months
4. Economy is really bad

Maybe a lot of fans are in a wait and see mode.

Don't hate me for this, but I'm not buying the album.
I love Miley and am a complete fan of her.
But, the songs on the album sound the same and the Hannah Montana songs sound like it should be in a little kids TV show. I really hate the songs.
The only ones I like are Crazier and The Climb.

Not at all. But, you did bring out another factor that might be affecting sales. It's not a Miley album. It's not a Hannah album. It's a mix, a movie sound track.

well either way i expect the HM soundtrack to do better then what they're promoting. If they're following the thrends for Miley in the past where her fans would all go get it as soon as it came out then their prediction might be way off becasue we all knew it did bad in sales yesterday.

nope. Hm2:MMC was Miley and Hannah. The original soundtrack was a mix of Hannah songs, a song from Miley and a bunch of other artists and that opened at 270K. So thats not it.

also if your not going to buy the album, at least buy the songs you liked off iTunes. Support Miley

The lack of promotion isn't that surprising; Miley is only one person and she'll have enough promotion to do for the movie in the coming weeks. So that might actually increase the sales of the soundtrack in the next couple of weeks as well.

beckylovestodance
03-25-2009, 07:02 PM
now that i think about it, movie soundtracks usually don't really start selling until AFTER the movie is released. like usually the movie is promotion in itself, which may explain the lack of promotion.
i think disney feels like the movie is most important to do well, the soundtrack just accompanies it.

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 07:04 PM
thats whats pissing me off, they didn't promote this and some of the miley songs on here are really good. No one knew this was out, even the media hasn't reviewed it and they even reviewed the 3d movie soundtrack last year.

Victoria, don't get all excited yet because we think there is something wrong with their numbers. those numbers are also way too low for Now 30, so they're probably wrong for both of them

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 09:16 PM
So billboard put out their article about this and they made it seem like after yesterday Miley was leading Now 30(I may have read it wrong) but its too close to tell who could be number one, only that they'll both sell over 120k

C_City*
03-25-2009, 09:21 PM
Hopefully Miley gets that number 1 spot. :57:

On a sidenote, I took some time to look for Demi's music & I like it a lot lol. It was admittingly only two songs, but I was v.pleasantly suprised.

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 09:23 PM
Billboard's article said Miley and Now 30 respectively lead that chart released today. That means Miley's sales from Tuesday were greater then Now 30's and she was number 1 yesterday, right? lol. i'm confused but I'm pretty sure thats what it means by respectively.

C_City*
03-25-2009, 09:25 PM
^^^

That's what I got from it. "Respectively", would mean that Miley was in front & of course hopefully is right now.

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 09:28 PM
oh good. if shes in front of them after the crap iTunes pulled yesterday morning with the soundtrack then I think shes going to for sure beat them. if shes ahead of them now but they were predicting that Miley would ultimiately be 2nd then I think that site was going with the trend Miley has to sell big on her first day(she sold 100,0000 copies of breakout her first day). So I think shes going to beat them then.

C_City*
03-25-2009, 09:32 PM
Yeah, so if things stay as they are postion wise she will be number one.

Looks like this was a bit of a build-up record by all accounts. Again linking back to pretty much no promo at all & Disney leaking the freaking album. <<< Still don't know why they did that.

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 09:36 PM
Yeah I think with all the promtion this will do better in the coming weeks, especially if she does perform on American Idol and i remember that she let slip that shes going to be on AI sometime this season but she couldn't talk about it. I just want her to debut at number one, i don't care what the sales are as long as its enough to get her to number 1.

C_City*
03-25-2009, 09:41 PM
Number 1 always looks nice on paper. Normally the people in charge are looking at the sales, but I think in this case it will be different. After all the stuff that's happened around the album I'm not sure that Disney could really expect any amount of huge success. Or maybe they weren't really so bothered, the gaping whole of promotion suggests that. They shouldn't really expect big sales with leaking out the record & all the rest.

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 09:44 PM
Twilights above her again. ugh wtf. Go Away Twilight

Disney isn't who I'm worried about, if shes not number one the media is gonna flip and she doesn't need them complaining, especially not next week when shes going to be spending all week doing promotion and dealing with the media

C_City*
03-25-2009, 09:46 PM
How is Twilight even above her? Are you talking about Billboard?

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 09:48 PM
iTunes. the soundtrack came out 4 months ago and hasnt' been in the top 10 for weeks and then last week it shot into the top 3. i don't know whats going on but the DVD shouldn't post it this much.

C_City*
03-25-2009, 09:53 PM
Iv not seen Twilight, but it's for sure down to the DVD. That's crazy sales though.

flutesinger262
03-25-2009, 10:06 PM
I haven't seen it either and i don't plan to but the soundtrack sales boost is rediculous. but it must only be on iTunes and Amazon since billboard didn't mention it I assume Twlight isn't seen as a threat. Also despite the fact it was ahead of Miley on iTunes and Amzon, Twilight didn't beat Miley or Now 30 yesterday.

Erm, I just read the billboard article and they wrote she'll sell more than 120k. Wouldn't that mean that she already has sold that many albums? I don't read that many billboard articles, but to me it doesn't sound like a prediction for the end of the week. Especially when they're headline is "...building big". And 120k aren't big.

Well if it's "just" the iTunes charts where she might not be #1 I think I could live with that cause I guess the iTunes charts aren't that important, are they?

But if the soundtrack doesn't debut at #1 in the Billboard charts I'll seriously cry :'(

I mean all of Miley's albums so far did debut at #1 - it's kinda of a natural law that Miley's CD always debut at #1 - at least for me :) And it would be so sad if this one would then not make it there :(

And I mean it wouldn't be Miley's fault for sure - every single one of her and Hannah's songs on it is soooo awesome! (Yeah I do like the Hannah songs too :) )

The only thin I could imagine which could have caused this not to sell as well as her other CDs did is the fact that the entire soundtrack did leak in HQ on the net a few days before it was released (and I mean that illegal HQ MP3 leak cause I don't think that the Disney XD UK thingy did any harm cause it was LQ so I guess it didn't really keep ppl from buying it). Especially combined witht that stubid action of Apple to make the soundtrack available only with the latest version of iTunes cause I could imagine that a lot of ppl where like:

"If it won't let me buy it then I'm not buying it and I do already have it anyway" :(

So if Miley doesn't get to #1 I will totally blame Apple for that!!!!!!!

She would sooooo deserve it and if those jerks ruined it by using her popularity to force ppl into updating to the latest iTunes (which is required to buy or rent HD movies which is why they want everyone to have it I guess) I will seriosly hate them forever
