View Full Version : Concerns for the Hannah Montana Movie regarding Home Video release.

I Should have posted this in the General Miley chat area, but this is more of a hannah issue.
I was watching Disney Channel and then they advertised the HSM 3 to be released on Video and what bothered me is its "Extended Edition" tag. Most DCOMs released on Home Video always has these silly "editions". I'm not that gullible! But HSM was a theatrical release.
I wonder if Disney will deliberately hold back a scene or a song or two in the Hannah Montana Movie just for us to buy an "extended" copy on DVD/Blu-Ray when it hits the shelves? They did it for the BOBW Concert movie for "Pumpin up the party", "Right Here" and "Good and Broken", those were cut in the theatrical version and i don't see a reason why.
Now my definition of an Extended scene to differentiate a Deleted or alternate ending. it's something that will add to the story and not end up like deleted scenes where really, that scene or song will not fit or confuse people
I will lobby Disney not to do this for Hannah. Just show the movie as it is intended to do and don't hold back scenes just for Home video!

Lemme Clarify with examples:
"The Cheetah Girls - One World (Extended Music Edition)"
"Camp Rock (Extended Rock Star Edition)"
"High School Musical 3: Senior Year (Extended Edition)"
"High School Musical (Encore Edition)"
"High School Musical: Remix [Blu-ray]" (Yes, the original will have its own Blu-Ray release)
"High School Musical (Two-Disc Remix Edition)"
"High School Musical 2 Deluxe Dance Edition"
Catch My drift? I dont wanna see "Hannah Montana: The Movie (Stuff you did not see in the movie theaters that is substantial not to be called just a deleted scene so you will definitely buy the DVD even though you saw it in theaters edition)"

I see. I absolutely hate that! That makes me very annoyed. :28: I hope they don't do that. But, they probably will.

At least bolt is not extended! And I will get the cheaper version, thank you Disney.
Going back to the BOBW concert movie. Noticed the song credits why they are in there (good and broken for example) but you did not hear those in the theaters or disney channel? It's in the freakin DVD!

I was gonna buy the DVD anyway so this doesn't really bother me, but most movies, not just disney, come this way. Maybe not ''Deluxe Extended Edition'' but with all the extra scenes, behind the scenes stuff and all that. They're doing it to make money, plain and simple. They figure if you paid to see the movie, you'll pay even more for the DVD. I'm willing to spend a few extra dollars for the extra scenes, but it's kind of a rip off. They already filmed everything, why not put it in the movie to begin with?

Lemme ask a question: What is a 'Digital Copy'?

Lemme ask a question: What is a 'Digital Copy'?
I'm glad to answer that. Digital copy that is included in some Disney DVD's is intended to be used in your apple iPod/iPhone or other portable devices so you don't have to convert the DVD yourself to be playable on those devices since it's ready to play on them. Though I have not tried that myself since I don't have discs yet with a digital copy.

Hi, :/ Sadly all movie companies and record labels are doing stuff like that again, like releasing a CD a few months later with EXTRA tracks or DVD to make you buy it again (fans), and movies with multiple versions.
Like a single DVD, 2 DVDs, Limited Edition DVD with SOMETHING free like a book and so on, its really annoying. unless your rich and you can afford to get it all i suppose. :/
What i dont like is Disney brought out "BOBW3D" in the UK and not only did it ONLY come out on DVD, it was only a LIMITED RELEASE.
NOT LIMITED EDITION, but LIMITED RELEASE, so they make say 500,000 stick them in shops and when they all sold out no one can buy it!!
And then when easter comes round it will probably come out again but be slightly different, or maybe it will be a GENERAL RELEASE or even DVD and BluRAY versions, I dont know, but its like they are only out to cash in nowdays.
so many movie companies just pump out crappy movie after crappy movie, and you go spend $30.00 or more on the DVD and then 6months/1 year later its on TV for free, so whats the point? :/
And when Disney do SALES, they are NOT like OTHER companies sales where the price actually comes down!! NO!... they actually go UP first!!
Every year Disney do a BUY ONE GET ONE FREE deal in the UK, if a movie was say 9.99 before the deal when the deal comes out the prices are now 17.99 and 21.00 and you get one FREE, so that still makes then the same as before or sometimes HIGHER, its not right. Some stores do have cheaper items now days, if the movie is older, but the deal stinks. :/
So i do understand your worry you dont want to get ripped off. but sadly i dont think its anything we have any control over. :/ and i agree, they should air the movie as its made and the DVD should be the SAME, not longer just to get sales, after all i loved BOBW3D but I did feel it was SHORT and it did cost $30 for a ticket! so i didnt go see it twice even though I really wanted to! it was just too much money and the theatre that showed it was 40 miles away so that added to it, the movie wasnt shown in a lot of places as they cant do 3D movies over here, but the movie was AWESOME!! and so it would be ncie if things was the same instead of these EXTENDED versions and DIRECTORS CUT and TONIGHT i was shopping and i saw a film that was the FAN CUT version!! WTBEEP! whatever next? the super duper 400 dvd set with 4,000 hours of unseen seen not been aired stuff thats already on the dvd you didnt get with the 2 disc set? oh crap thats Lord Of The Rings. :/
Thank you for your posts. :)

Like what has been pointed out, the "version game" has been played everywhere. My favorite example is Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The original theatrical release was a box office hit, so to milk the deal, they cut some scenes out and added a new ending, and ran it through the theaters again as a “special edition.” The first video release was of the so-called special edition, only without the new extended ending. Then, they re-released it with the extended ending. A year ago, the “collectors’ edition” DVD came along, which has all of the footage from all the editions, plus some deleted scenes not previously released. The catch is that the version of the movie on the disc is the short version with stuff cut out, and all the restored scenes are just individual clips thrown in an “extras” sub-menu. If you want to see the movie in it’s entirety, with all the scenes in correct chronological order, you’d need to have video editing software and stitch it together yourself.
What frags me about the BOBW DVD is not only the dropping of good songs (Good and Broken, E. Northumberland, etc.), but where’s Ready, Set, Don’t Go and some of the other songs that were part of the live concert tour? And why did they hack the middle out of I Miss You? Not that the stuff with Miley and her dad talking about the song wasn’t interesting, but it ruined the moment as far as the song itself. I think I smell a “collector’s edition” coming . . .
First rule of marketing: Why sell one, when you can sell two for twice the price . . .:msn015:

Thank you! Speaking of LOTR, i don't like those movies just by the subject :P
And the best example in recent memory is the "Breakout" album, i only got the regular edition and i did not buy the platinum edition, if i waited then i will buy that but i dont wanna wait months so i got it the forst week it was released and im contented with it.
Also i wanna share with you that those "Unrated" movies from bad PG-13 comedies, i read it does not contain more explicit material and its just there to catch your attention for the (Censored) crowd.

On the Blu-ray release, the 3 different versions can be played on one disc but you have to have a Blu-Ray Player, sneaky!

I wondered if "East Northumberland High" was an easter egg in the DVD since that is the only song not in the theatrical and DVD release. "Good and Broken" is supposed to be in the "extra" songs. But hey! You could make the theatrical movie 1 hr and 30 mins if they did not cut songs!

The Criterion release on the old Laser Disc format had all the scenes on one platter, so you could program it to play the chapters in order -- PITA.
We don't have a Blu-Ray, and I'm not planning on that or an HD television anytime soon. We spent close to a "G" on a flat-screen CRT a couple of years ago, and when that flames-out, we'll make the move. I'm not interested in paying mega $ for new tech any more - let the market come to us . . .

Could be. The other throw-in on the DVD is the J-Bros SOS, which was done as part of their warm-up set before Miley (as Hannah) came on . . .
I won't be buying the "platinum" version of Breakout either -- unless I can find it used at F.Y.E. for like, ten bucks. I wonder how long I should hold-out before throwing down on the DVD release of the HM Movie?

I hate how they do that. They like put some stupid scene in at the end and call the DVD "extended edition" and charge like $10 more. Also with the CD's, they come out with the regular one and I buy it and then a few months later they come out with a deluxe one, and it has like 2 more songs on it and they charge like $5 more!
it's stupid.

Home Video update, the video will be released August 18 and it seems did not hold back certain scenes to make it an "extended" edition.

It really really makes me mad when they hold back a scence or a song or leave something out just so you will buy the dexlue edition. I went and saw BoBw and (well duh I loved it) Then I find out that they didnt put in pumpin up the party or Good and broken in the movie at movies.
You pay so much to see these movies and sometimes they leave things out to me it's a rip off. and yes smiley_smiley_mileyI know what you mean. It makes me so mad. I dont understand why they just couldnt put the song on the 1st cd
or if the musican wrote the song after the cd came out. save it for your next cd. Why do they even do dexlue cd's/movie?
because then you have the same movie/cd that you just brought expect with more extras or songs. GRRR!!!IT BEEP (Curse word) ME OFF!
oh,wait I know people want one thing in this world money$
