Change in Me.

Summary:
Hi my name is Rachel and I'm an 8th grader at Woodford Junior high.
The thing is, I wont be doing to that school any longer.. You see, my dad has gotten a new job in Florida. Yup thats what I said. Florida. And I live in Ohio. Florida is THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD. I know how hard it is to be the new kid. Timmy Kirkland, the booger eating kid at Woodford, for one. He moved last month. And he STILL has no friends. [You can see why] And when I move, NO ONE would like me. Thats because: 1) I'm pale 2) Im not blonde. 3) THERE IS NOTHING ATTRACTIVE ABOUT ME.
You guys better wish me luck.

Chapter 1
Monday, October 18th 7:07pm
It was a cold wet evening in Ohio. I was in my room packing for the big move. My dad has gotten a new job in Florida. So we are moving. I absolutely hate my dad for doing this to me. I have lived in Ohio all my life. I have made a lot of close friends. Best friends. And now we are moving. Do you know how hard that is?
Especially when you are in the middle of 8th grade. Its not kindergarten. Everyone knows each other.
And I’ll have to be the new girl. Which, no one likes. I’m moving tomorrow afternoon. I’ll go to school to say goodbye to everyone then when I get back from school, BAM! It’s all over. I try not to cry as I pick out my clothes and place them in the box. Florida is going to be hard. Its far away and the weather is kill. I have gotten so used to the cool winter breeze of Ohio. And now I’ll have to be in this “sunshine state” ugh.

When I’m done packing, I head downstairs. My mom was in the kitchen preparing supper. “Hey Rach did you finish packing?” She asks. “Yes, yes I did.” I say sourly. I open the kitchen closet and pour some dry frosted flakes into a cup. “Now, Rachel what’s with all the sugar? I’m making dinner!” I sigh as I pull back the kitchen chair and sit down. “Mom, stop trying to change the subject.”
“Aw I am sorry honey. I really am. I know how hard its going to be for you. And not only you, for me too! I have a lot of friends in this neighborhood.” I take a bite of a frosted flake. “Its okay mom, it really is. I’m not upset. “ My mom didn’t buy it. “Mom really.” I get up and pour myself a glass of water. I take it down in one gulp and head upstairs before she can say anything. “Rachel wait! What about dinner?”
“I’m not hungry!” I shout from the top of the stairs. I change into my Pajama’s and walk to the bathroom.
As I brush my teeth, I think about how I’ll say goodbye to everyone tomorrow.
When I’m done, I walk to my room, turn off the lights and climb into bed. I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to find out.

Chapter 2
Tuesday, October 19th 7:10am
It was unusually sunny when I woke up the next morning. Total opposite of my mood. I got out of bed and opened my closet. I picked out a pair of skinny jeans and a yellow Hollister tee. I rinse my face and go down to the kitchen. I get out a bowl and pour myself some cheerios. I take small bites slowly thinking about how I will live through today. When I finish my cereal, I wash the dishes, grab my book bag and head outside. I had to shield my eyes from the sun. Its been a long time since weather was like this in Ohio.

“Rach!” I hear a familiar voice behind me. When I turn around, my best friend Lisa runs into me and tucks me into a bear hug. “I am going to miss you so much” She said and squeezes me tight. “Yeah I know.” I say. I try real hard not to cry. When she lets go of me, she asks “Do you know what school you’ll be going to in Florida?” I nod. “Yeah its some stupid school called Somerset Junior High. I know I’ll hate it there” Lisa hugs me again. “Answer my calls!” She told me. “I will.” I say. “Don’t worry I won’t forget about you.” Lisa pulls away. “Look on the bright side.” She said. “At least theres a lot of cute boys there!”
“Oh who cares!” I slap my hand back and forth in the air. “You know how I am, Lisa.”
She sighs. “Yeah, I guess. Make sure to check your email and be on IM a lot too.”

When I got to first period Spanish I sat down next to, Alexis. Alexis was one of my closest friends.
She has dirty blonde hair and all the boys love her. She has no freckles unlike me. She has a nice
complexion. Right now she was wearing a mini skirt with black tights, gold flats and her hair was super straight. She flat irons it every morning. I’m surprised she isn’t popular. “Hey Alexis, what’s up? “ I greet her as I approach the table. “Rach! I heard that you’re moving! OMG why the heck didn’t you tell me?”
Oh crap. “Uh..I don’t know I’m sorry lex! I just found out a few days ago. You know, my dad has gotten a new job in Florida so..- “FLORIDA?!” She interrupts me. “Yeah I- “That’s on the OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD. “I know and I am really sorry Alexis.” She glares at me for a moment and doesn’t say anything.
Then she gets back to copying down notes. Okay then.

When the bell rang for second period, I went straight to my locker. I grabbed my Geometry text book. My locker was empty. I had cleaned it out the other day since I was moving. I was just about to close my locker shut, until I saw Dylan coming my way. Oh my god he looked so adorable with his blonde hair slicked back and cargo pants. “Hey” He greeted me with a head nod. “Um.. Hi” The way I said it made it sound like it was a question. ‘So word is your moving to Florida.” I wasn’t able to look at his sky blue eyes. It made me melt. “Yeah, um yeah I am.” Ugh great going. He looks down. “Yeah I’ll miss you a lot.” I turn beet red.
“Really? You’ll miss me?” He nods. “Don’t tell anyone I said that, okay? Now I have to hurry and get to class. I’ll talk to you later!” I head upstairs to Geometry, speechless.

Chapter Three
Wednesday October 20th 6:00am

Today was the day. I was going to move to a whole new state, start over a whole new life. I’ll go to a school where no one knows me and its up to me what I want to be. Yesterday, I had said goodbye to everyone. Even my Geometry teacher Mrs. Knuckle was practically drooling all over me.

But anyways, mom said our flight was leaving at eight. After I had brushed my teeth and combed my hair, I headed downstairs into the kitchen to find something to eat. My dad was sitting down reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. “Hey Rachel” He said when he saw me. “Come get something to eat. We have to leave soon. Why not some pancakes or something?”

“Dad, mom didn’t make pancakes and I don’t know how.” I said irritated. “I’ll just eat some cereal like always.” I took a bowl out of the cabinet and poured myself some fruit loops. “Honey, we really have to do something about your diet.”

“Dad! Please. I’m only 12. Can you just let me eat what I want?”

He looked at me, surprised by me reaction.

“Oh sorry dad, I didn’t mean to raise my voice.”

He didn’t say anything, he just continued to read his newspaper and take little sips of his coffee. Okay then.

When I finished my cereal, I did the dishes . Then I started to go up to my room.

“Where do you think you are going.”

“Um, no where dad, just my room. Can you call me when its time to go?”

“Sure, sure thing.” Awkward.

When I went up to my room, I made my bed, cleaned up, then turned on the PC to my laptop.
When I opened up my AIM box, I nearly fell of my chair. Dylan was online!

S8trboi547: hey rach. whatcha doin online?

Dramagal95: nothing really. My flight leaves at eight so I decided to come on for a bit. What are YOU doing online?

S8trboi547: Oh. Well, I kinda come on every morning. You know, because the school bus comes at like 7am so yeah..

Dramagal95: Cool.

S8trboi547: Yeah so rach, listen. You don’t know how hard this is for me to say but..

Dramagal95: WHAT?

S8trboi547: I had a crush on you.

Dramagal95: I don’t know what to say!!!!

So that’s how it went. The whole chat. I kind of wasn’t really surprised that Dylan liked me. I could already tell by the way he was talking to me yesterday. But after this chat, I just didn’t think he was the same guy. The popular Dylan. And I really didn’t like him much anymore. See, that’s what happens. You think you like a guy when you don’t really know him. He seems all cool and everything, but It turns out, he’s not the guy you thought he was.

“RACH! ITS TIME TO GO!” I heard my dad calling me. I signed out of chat , picked up my suitcase and went outside. Before you knew it, I was at the backseat of my mom’s mini van.
Goodbye, Ohio.
