lol, at the title of the article makes me laugh, anyways we were all wondering and asking about this so i thought i'd post this. BTW does anyone seriously think HSM 3 is getting 2 songs in their? I don't:

Miley Cyrus, Oscar winner? (Yes! Scream! It's possible!)
The idea that Miley Cyrus could soon reign in the Oscar pantheon beside Katharine Hepburn, Barbra Streisand and Oscar Hammerstein II may seem preposterous, but, hey, stop laughing! Seriously, it could happen — this year.
If the animated flick "Bolt" is a box-office hit when it opens next week, then it'll be a serious Oscar contender — especially in the music categories. That's where Miley Cyrus could be a contender in the race for best song, since she not only croons "I Thought I Lost You" with John Travolta, but she shares writing credit with Jeffrey Steele.

Disney films dominate the song category, of course. Heck, three tunes from "Enchanted" got nominated last year. Sure, they lost to "Falling Slowly" from "Once," but tunes from six Disney films have won best song over the last 20 years: "Tarzan," "Pocahontas," "The Lion King," "Aladdin," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Little Mermaid."
However, Miley Cyrus' Oscar hopes face a serious obstacle and lots of Disney competition. "I Thought I Lost You" plays over the film's end credits. That's usually a bad thing since nominees are decided by members of the music branch who watch videos to see how the music is incorporated into the film. Songs that are showcased in dramatic action like "Falling Slowly" have a strong edge.
There are lots of other Disney songs this year too. There's "Down to Earth" from "Wall-E," which is sung by Peter Gabriel (over the end credits, alas). And four tunes are being campaigned from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" — "I Want It All," "A Night to Remember," "Scream," and "Can I Have This Dance?" According to new academy rules, only two tunes from a film may be nominated, down from three last year.
Assuming two "High School Musical 3" songs get in, there are lots of other strong contenders this year too, such as "Jai Ho" — the joyous grand finale of "Slumdog Millionaire." There's also Bruce Springsteen's "The Wrestler" from the Mickey Rourke film of the same name, Will.i.am's "Traveling Song" from "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," Jennifer Hudson's "All Dressed Up in Love" from "Sex and the City," Alicia Keys' and Jack White's "Another Way to Die" from "Quantum of Solace" and Jamie Cullum's song co-written with Clint Eastwood for "Gran Torino."
Competition may be tough, but the headstrong "Hannah Montana" star is determine to win someday. As Miley Cyrus told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet outside the Kodak Theatre earlier this year.

oooh, i hope so, but "Another Way to Die" was really good... even though the movie kinda sucked.

i don't even care if she wins, I just want her to get in there as a nominee

dontwalkaway
11-17-2008, 06:53 PM
yeah that would make me really happy.
because last year when she was there, a bunch of people said "maybe next year you'll be nominated!" and they were sort of joking, so it'd just be incredible if she got nominated and could be like "HA shows what you know!" to all those respectabiggle actors

I haven't seen HSM3, seen 1 and 2 and that's enough for me. Their music is nowhere near Oscar quality though.

Guess it's not just crazed fans thinking she could win an oscar then :P. Don't really know about the other possible contenders though.

dontwalkaway
11-17-2008, 06:57 PM
the soundtrack for HSM3 actually wasn't half bad. a bit cheesy at times, but there were a couple pretty decent ones. and they were all catchy as hell.
but "Another Way to Die" blows them all out of the water, of course. i think I Thought I Lost You definitely has a chance to be a nominee, it's not impossible.

That would make me so happy to see Miley nominated for an Oscar... SO HAPPY.
I hope she gets a nomination.

its possible
if not that then bolt could be nominated for some animation categories which is still good

"Another Way to Die" I seriously dislike, it's not a real James Bond themesong, it just doesn't fit. "All Dressed Up in Love" isn't really that different to other songs and a bit too old fashioned. "Traveling Song" isn't really my thing but not bad, can't see it really going with the movie though (haven't seen Madagaskar 2 yet).

Looking at the songs named in that article, the real competition would come from Peter Gabriel I think. So looking at all the songs I don't actually think that "I Thought I Lost You" wouldn't stand a chance.

so is she a noimnee?
if she is I hope she wins she might not but it's still a pretty
big goal.because I cant think of any disney that's been in the oscars

I think I Thought I Lost You stands a really good chance at a nomination, really good. Its a pretty good song and its the kind of song that academy typically likes, if that makes sense.

miley_smiles923
11-17-2008, 07:20 PM
i dont think it'd win though..last year all the songs from enchated to lost, they had 75% chance of winning. the academy hardly ever picks blockbuster movies, its more artsy ones

apogeum
11-17-2008, 07:23 PM
Artsy movies rarely have original soundtracks though. Sure last year one of those won but in the last twenty years the Oscar for best original song has gone to an animated Disney movie.

The Enchanted songs were just filler tracks for the category.

I don't think it will win, in part because there are people in hollywood who do not care to see Oscar winner next to Miley Cyrus name(I mean all you have to do is read the beginning of this article). I also think the bonds song is going to win, people have been talking aobut that song all year. it has a lot of hype around it. even before it was recorded people were talking about it.
but still at 16 to be an Oscar Nominee, that would be very cool for her. plus she'd be one of the youngest nominees in that cateogory ever if not the youngest.

miley_smiles923
11-17-2008, 07:29 PM
im sure shed get nominated for it, bolt would and so would wall-e for the animation spots so either way shed be nominated for something unless wall-e completely outdoes it
but the fact shes a disney star and only 16, well almost, is not what the academy usually chooses..

dontwalkaway
11-17-2008, 07:29 PM
i think she'd probably be the youngest. younger may have sung it, but not written/co-written it. i don't think it'd win partially because Another Way to Die is just a better song, but also because there are still people who don't Miley seriously as an artist. unfortunately she's going to have to keep proving herself again and again simply because she's a young, disney girl, but being nominated would definitely be a step forward.

apogeum
11-17-2008, 07:34 PM
Unlike most other awards the Oscars aren't decided by popular vote. The Oscars are decided by industry professionals, you actually have to be invited to join. So I think John Travolta is actually a member, I do know the youngest member is Dakota Fanning. In the industry most people seem to respect Miley though.

And am I the only one who thinks "Another Way to Die" seriously sucks? As a song I actually think the Peter Gabriel song is better than "I Thought I Lost You".

Miley doesn't get the nomination for Bolt, she gets it only if the song is nominate which is why people are talking about it in regards to the song because if Bolt the movie gets nominated Miley doesn't get the nomination. She only gets the nomiantion for the song because she wrote the song.
I really want her to get this because it will be a step towards people taking her seriously.

As a song I actually think the Peter Gabriel song is better than "I Thought I Lost You".really? i love it. they both have very distinct voices so they didn't like mesh but it was still really cool. i usually love the bond start-up songs, though, i dunno. they pretty much all have the same message though. but Quantum of Solace pretty much sucked as a movie.

It's just not James Bond; there is a certain history with James Bond so in my eyes a soundtrack for it should be a bit more conservative.

I also don't like the White Stripes and this song is just all over the place, so a bit like the White Stripes. So it just doesn't work for me based on the Jack White part, Alicia has nothing to do with it. The whole thing just doesn't fit together as a composition.

It's the kind of thing a lot of people go for though; which is sad to me but oh well. I still think that of the songs I've heard so far "I Thought I Lost You" and "Down to Earth" fit their respective movies best. The Academy can always come up with nominations that no one expects though.

Totally agree with ya on the James Bond song, but I disagree on "Down To Earth" - after hearing it I really don't think it's decent competition for Miley & John.

it doesnt matter if she wins or not, she's just nominated.
being nominated is just achieving itself, and thats all that matters.
all i want to see is that she just showed up, looking stunning and all. ;)
but if she wins, that would be an amazing achievement,
and people would take her seriously.
but at the odds of her wining, idk, its a long shot, but i dont care.

haters are annoying they're saying the Oscar's will loose any credibility by nominating her because shes just a Disney . I'm sorry but I thought they were nominating people based on the their work not based on their name or "label"

Just Disney? As I said earlier, six animated movies winning best original song in twenty years and all by Disney. Granted, some of those were written by people like Phil Collins and Elton John but they're still Disney.

The Oscars have lost credibility over the years but nominating Miley wouldn't do that. If Disney didn't have complete faith in Miley they would never have offered her to write the song. What haters think about it doesn't matter anyway, the critics love it.

They're also a bit quick to dismiss the Walt Disney and Hollywood Records labels; there are not just Disney Channel stars on those. I don't think songs by bands like Evan's Blue, Breaking Benjamin or especially Atreyu shout sweet old Disney.

I've never heard "Another Way To Die" before I watched the movie.
So I sat down, watched the first scene and hoped for another great Bond song.
Well, I can say, that was definitely the worst song I've listened to in full length for years.
"Another Way To Die" is seriously the worst Bond song ever, even "Moonraker" was better.

Miley Cyrus: Oscar Nominee? Her 'Bolt' Song Could Pave The Way

'Those lyrics, the melody, those choruses are A-plus stuff,' John Travolta says of 'I Thought I Lost You.'

By Shawn Adler

She's a truly cross-platform sensation — a TV star, platinum recording artist and a burgeoning big-screen playmaker — but you'll never guess what Miley Cyrus is potentially poised to do next: win an Academy Award?
For the song "I Thought I Lost You," which Cyrus wrote with Jeffrey Steele and performs with John Travolta in the movie "Bolt," the 15-year-old "Hannah Montana" star is listed as a presumptive favorite in the category of Best Original Song by several Oscar handicappers, most notably The Los Angeles Times. (http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_goldderby/2008/11/miley-cyrus-new.html)
Surprised? Never thought it could happen? Don't worry, neither did John Travolta.
"I knew she was writing it with her partner, and I thought, 'Well, it will be a cute song, whatever it is. I'd agreed to sing it, so whatever it is I'm going to sing it, ' " Travolta recalled of early trepidation when he heard Cyrus herself was penning the song, which plays over the end credits of the new Disney animated movie. "Well, it was something great. I mean, those lyrics, the melody, those choruses are A-plus stuff, you know? She's really gifted at writing, and she really wanted to write something good for me as the character Bolt, so she went out of her way with her writing partner to come up with something good, and I really think they pulled it off. I know something about music, and I'm telling ya, I was blown away."
The movie follows a Hollywood dog who finds himself in New York after escaping from his padlocked trailer. Desperate to reunite with his owner, the dog joins forces with a cat and hamster team to make his way across the country and find his way home.
For Cyrus, capturing that cross-country journey was the key to making the song work, she said, and it was the reason she chose Nashville songwriter Steele as her collaborator.
"Because this isn't just a movie that takes place in L.A. — it takes place all across the country — so, I think it's a really cool way that we could get that feeling, not just make it something that sounds from Hollywood and really produced, but we could add a little country twang to it," she said. "I thought it was fun."
The lyrics and melody evoke a somewhat melancholy notion of getting lost and getting found, with an overarching theme of loyalty, Cyrus explained.
"Like how you wish so badly that someone won't change, and not only do you lose them physically, you know, he gets lost cross-country, but he feels like he's lost his little puppy-ness," she said of Bolt — who, thanks to being the star of his own TV show, actually thinks he has superpowers. "Like, he really doesn't feel like a dog anymore. [He] feels more just like an actor."
But is it enough to lead Cyrus to the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre as a nominee in a year full of strong contenders, which also include songs from other Disney films like "WALL-E" and "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"?
It wouldn't surprise executive producer John Lasseter in the least.
"[The song] so sums up the theme of this film. You know, a dog and its owner and they both were separated, but they love each other so much — there's such an emotional payoff when these characters get reunited, and I think that's what this song's about," he said. "When [Miley and John] sang it, it just really, really works. I mean, it's a great song unto itself, but it really works in the movie."
You can judge for yourself when "Bolt" opens Friday.

Well, I do hope that LA Times article doesn't start a whole range of articles which will eventually hurt its chances. Sometimes nominees seem to be excluded just because of overhyping.

Though I somewhat doubt that the Academy often checks MTV.com for things like this.

I looked at it for a bit, it's not just for the Oscars. The Oscars aren't the only award show. The site basically lists where voting members for certain awards like the Oscars but also for things like the WGA awards can go for free screenings of the movie.

But they are basically the movies that Disney feels are being considered for awards. Though it's probably also a case of them being on a shortlist; studios probably know what awards they're being considered for long before the public does.
