HM was the 2nd highest rated cable show this week(behind Monday Night Football) with a 5.5 for the premier of the 3rd season on Sunday. I don't know whats with people saying its ratings are down, they're clearly not.

The record episodes had far higher ratings but in general they're not down no. They're even higher than most of the shows on a big network like the CW.

People just like to compare ratings at times when it doesn't matter. I've seen people claiming that shows like iCarly are getting better ratings; ignoring that they were up against HM reruns.

The thing with ratings it that they can be interpreted certain ways. So if people want to prove that ratings are down they'll find a way to do it.

also another thing, why are people claiming WOWP is getting higher ratings then HM when its last new episode(last sunday) got a 3.0, Suiet Life on Deck's new episodes get higher ratings then that.
I'm just confused, are people just saying stuff without actually checking or what?

I'd expect next weeks ratings to be higher then this weeks because of that.

Of course they're checking stuff but only reading what they want to and not checking the right stuff. The only true way of comparing shows like WoWP and HM is to put them up against each other in the same week.

HM also suffered more from the writers strike than WoWP. Both their airing schedules were all over the place but HM aired too many episodes in the first part of season 2. With a more regular airing schedule the ratings should be going up again.

the thing is head to head new episodes (like HM at 8 and WOWP at 8:30 on the same night), HM usually does better then WOWP but people are saying WOWP is getting better ratings. Overall it might be but thats because the HM episodes, some of them have been out for a year or two. When they're new HM does better. I guess people just look and take the numbers they want so they can show things a certain way.
I don't know how to check but the 5.5 has got to be their highest rating in a while.

also tons of the episodes were on youtube before

i didn't see lots of new episodes when they first premiered here because i'd already seen them on youtube

i wish they'd show the same episodes at the same time everywhere so we wouldn't have this problem

As far as I can tell they are more less the best of the year. But now Disney is obviously promoting it more and having a more fixed airing schedule. They've been airing Hannah Montana at a pace of less than one episode per month in 2008. They still have to recover from that drop in viewership.

WoWP was closer to an average of two new episodes per month in 2008.

And of course people look at the numbers in a certain way; that's the problem with statistics, everyone reads them the way they want to. WoWP isn't doing bad but it still doesn't come close to regular HM ratings.

thats real cool

The CW is a big network not a major network (that's NBC, Fox, ABC and CBS), they're behind there somewhere. But they're not on cable which makes a major difference.

its can get any number for a rating. However a 5.5 for a disney channel show(show not movie) is not just good, its a pretty great number but its nothing new for HM when its new. most disney shows even when new get a around a high 2 or 3.

Yep, considering many families dont have disney channel. 5.5m is great.
many regular(and considered successful) shows on major networks only get 6-8m.

and more important, considering profitability, 5.5m on disney channel may means more than a 20m show on major networks.

lol 5.5 million is .1 higher than the show's premeire on march 24th, 2006 with 5.4 million viewers :P

T4P. I agree it was a bunch of people who don't like HM saying the ratings were down. Miley and HM are very popular and still the BIGGEST show on Disney Channel by far.

'Hannah' Hands Disney Channel 5.5 Million Viewers

Third-Season Debut Marks Best Performance In 15 Months

By Online Staff

Hannah Montana’s third-season debut started off strongly.

The Disney Channel show’s Nov. 2 debut attracted 5.5 million viewers during its 8 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. time slot, some 2 million more than the series’ sophomore-season starter, according to Nielsen Media Research data. That made the Miley Cyrus-starrer cable’s top entertainment program for the week of Oct. 27 through Nov. 2, according to [URL="http://www.broadcastnewsroom.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=570793#"]network (http://www.multichannel.com/) officials.

Included in that total were 2.6 million kids 6 to 11 and 2.4 million tweens 9 to 14. Those performances were tops in those demos during the aforementioned span, and represented gains of 1 million over the second-season debut with the first group and 800,000 with the latter. All told, Sunday night’s premiere ranked as the series' fifth-highest among total viewers, fourth best with kids 6 to 11 and sixth against tweens.

Moreover, the installment ranked as the series’ most-watched telecast in over year -- since a Hannah episode was the lead-out of premiere of telepic High School Musical 2 on Aug. 17, 2007. The original movie, when measured on live + seven-day basis, is cable’s top show ever , with more than 18.6 million watchers.
That Montana episode still stands as cable’s No. 1 original series telecast, garnering 10.7 million total viewers, 4.1 million kids 6 to 11 and 4.2 million tweens, according to Disney Channel executives.

a show can get a get any number for a rating. A 5.5 for cable is a fanstastic number. on the major networks 5.5 would be an okay number, but for cable a 5.5 is great. the number also repersents millions who watch 5.5=5,500,000

There's also a less legal way of looking at how well a show is doing. Not everyone has Disney Channel or lives in the US so people download quite a lot. When you look at the bittorent downloads for shows like HM and WoWP you can see a clear trend.

HM: good speeds, a lot of seeders and it's online hours after the episode aired.
WoWP: mediocre speeds, not that many seeders and it sometimes takes a while before they show up.
iCarly: you'd be lucky to find a torrent.

This is just one episode so far though; how well Hannah Montana really is doing will show over the next couple of weeks.
