View Full Version : Are you a Liberal, Conservative or Moderate?
YouKnowYouLoveMe

Just a question.
If you don't know here are some things that classify each one:
Liberal:
- oppose orgazined prayer in places like school or football games
- oppose the death penalty
- government should help out the nations social problems, economy, etc.
- pro choice regarding abortions
- support affirmative action {that is where people of minorities are given special treatment because they are a minority. Its like when applying to college you don't get into like like Harvard but a{n} asian, hispanic, or african american gets in with a lower grade point average and SAT scores than you because they are a minority}
Conservative:
- people should be responsible for themselves, goverment should not intervene in economy or social problems.
- pro life regarding abortions
- favor lower taxes and higher government spending
- support the death penalty
Moderate:
- believe certain things from both sides
Those are general things, not like you have to agree with everything to be considered a liberal.
Now usually if you are a liberal than you are a Democrat, and if you are a conservative you are a Republican. Not always the case, but usually.
I'm a conservative

Liberal.
By the way, you have some stuff wrong in your defenitions. Conservatives want less government spending. They want to cut social programs because they claim it is "wasteful." Oh and the big one, conservatives want to de-regualte business. Look how much good that has done...

I love all the political threads suddenly popping up.
It's really good to see that people on here are at least somewhat informed and interested, I'd are at least attempting to be.
Personally I'd say that I'm more liberal.
Honestly though I find politics so confusing a lot of the time and I don't know what's right because I hear one thing at home from my parents and another thing at school (I go to Catholic school, so I'm sure you can guess what their views are) and it's just all so confusing and complicated.

liberal, definitely. except i don't agree on the affirmative action thing.
not to be racist, but it's not fair that some people that did really well on their SATs and stuff are losing spots at good colleges because of the minorities. people should be chosen for college based on their knowledge, not their race.

Ah, I agree. This is completely how I feel.
I'm liberal EXCEPT for that. I believe in complete equality regardless of race. Just because minorities were treated terribly for a long time (which is horrible), doesn't mean they should be treated better than white people, etc. now. But of course, if a white person got into a college instead of a minority, the minority would immediately say it's racism. I hate how SOME minorities use racism as an excuse for everything. And I'm not racist, before you even start. Hahaha.

I read the best quotes ever today.
"Liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and acheive and believe in God."
-U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes.
The term "Real Americans" was also used by Sarah Palin at a Republican fundraiser recently. She said,
"We believe that the best of America is in the small towns that we visit, and in the wonderful little pockets of what I call the 'real America,' being here with all you hard-working, very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation."
So apparantley because I am liberal and live in a big city I am not part of "real" America.

HAHAHAHAHAAAAA!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:  I'm all for Obama this election, but are you flippen kidding me? Biden knows nothing!
"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed." -Biden
First off the president at the time was Hoover, not Roosevelt. Secondly, the television DIDN'T EXIST then. How stupid could someone be? Even I knew those facts. I don't trust either he or Palin to be able to run the government if something happens to the President.
Mistakes like that just don't happen when you are running for a role so important. Some of Palin's quotes that are really bad can be interpreted different ways.. but a lot of Biden's quotes are just stupidity!

His own little way of avoiding the question. Redistribution of wealth is a trait of Marxism, it is a trait of socialism, it is a trait of communism. Now, I am by no means saying that Obama is any of those, I'm not an extremist. He simply does have policies that are very similar.
SaintSaturn
10-31-2008, 01:31 AM
Well he continued to answer the question. By "spreading the wealth," Obama meant he was going to give tax relief to people who have not seen it in quite some time. McCain and Palin did a great job of taking a simple phrase and turning it into a scare tactic. I still laugh when I hear them mention "the 's' word" at their rallies and the whole audience boos. It's almost as funny as when Palin misquoted Madeline Albright and told women who don't support her that they are going to hell and everyone laughed (after booing the mention of Albright). Good stuff.

Liberal:
- oppose orgazined prayer in places like school or football games
- oppose the death penalty
- government should help out the nations social problems, economy, etc.
- pro choice regarding abortions
- support affirmative action {that is where people of minorities are given special treatment because they are a minority. Its like when applying to college you don't get into like like Harvard but a{n} asian, hispanic, or african american gets in with a lower grade point average and SAT scores than you because they are a minority}
Not always the case, but usually.
im moderate.
like i support lower taxes and higher government spending. & i support death penaltys.

i mean Palin had not too much experience and no discernible big accomplishments, if she was a guy it would seem completely random

Okay, I know why you said that. McCain was not going to pick an idiot to be his VP. Did it have other politics involved? Of course it did! Every candidates picks have politics to it. But that was not necessarily the reason which is what you're hinting at.
I guess I should have mentioned that I was not referring to Palin alone. The reasons I mentioned are quite common in the world of politics. I was not necessarily hinting that one of the reasons I mentioned was the reason McCain chose Palin as his running mate. I was merely explaining that intelligence is not the only reason why someone could be installed in an office of important position. Please don't be quick to assume what other people's intentions might be. ;) :57:

Oh, okay. But I had no reason not to assume that. She is what y'all were talking about. Remember, people cannot discern true intentions on the internet. It is only logical people will take it ways you might not have intended although I think you did.
Well, actually, Victoria, that was only part of the reason. She was also picked to unite the base. A lot of conservative Christians do not like McCain, and they choose her because she is very conservative.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was originally thinking of adding: "Note: I'm not referring to Palin alone." Sadly, laziness got the better of me. :P
I guess I should add more smilies too. They help you express your feelings better. :03: <--See what I mean. :P

My state is one of the most liberal states out there. XD
So it'd be denying Vermont to say I'm not liberal!
So yes, I am liberal. However, I do not support "affirmative action".

Do note that intelligence is not the only reason someone can be placed in an important political position. Other possible reasons include: nepotism, bribery, public appeal, personal preference, etc.
True, but the first two don't apply to Palin, the third can come from people seeing someone as intelligent, and the fourth is always a factor.

Trying not to be rude, but anyone that's heard George Bush speak can't honestly find him to be smart. I personally find him to be probably the most unintelligent president America has ever had to deal with.
My dad even has a book of "Bushisms" (aka really dumb things that he's said) :P

i suppose i'm a moderate
here's my bolded list:
Liberal:
- oppose orgazined prayer in places like school or football games
- oppose the death penalty
- government should help out the nations social problems, economy, etc.
- pro choice regarding abortions
- support affirmative action {that is where people of minorities are given special treatment because they are a minority. Its like when applying to college you don't get into like like Harvard but a{n} asian, hispanic, or african american gets in with a lower grade point average and SAT scores than you because they are a minority}
Conservative:
- people should be responsible for themselves, goverment should not intervene in economy or social problems.
- pro life regarding abortions
i'm not sure about this, i'd have to learn more about it to make my decision- favor lower taxes and higher government spending
i guess it depends on the situation - support the death penalty
Moderate:
- believe certain things from both sides

My favorite is,
"There's a saying, fool me once shame on you. Fool me again, shame.......on.......well we're not gonna get fooled again."
Or something like that.

I'm not the best with politics, but I am for McCain/Palin.
Why? Because I just like them better than Obama, and because
i'm Pro-Life, and that is very important to me ;)

Flaming Liberal, proud atheist and Obama/Biden supporter. I'm about as liberal as they come except I'm pro-military (to some degree), however I believe firmly in love and that only love can permanently solve the worlds problems. I am violently opposed to religion in any form, I liked McCain until he ran for president, I despise the neo-conservative right for their unrelenting intolerance (I know, hypocritical, right? :) ) and plan to go into politics myself.

Liberal
There is a reason for affirmative action. It not so simple as just getting in because your a minority. It is to stop people from preventing you from getting a job or assistance from the government (loans, welfare, etc..) because your a minority.
Believe it or not and while it is hard to prove, people will not hire based on the color of your skin.
I did not get into my school because I am a minority.. I did work hard.. so do not assume... thank you very much!

Oh definitely shopaholicoxxo.. there should be certain rules/regulations put in place to sort of control affirmative action.
Also it must be known that when "they" say minorities, it includes women and any small groups of people who are not the majority.

Affirmative Action is needed to prevent racism from over shadowing a persons qualifications for a job or getting into a school. Believe it or not, some employers will not call someone in for an interview because they have a hispanic or black sounding name. These people don't even get the chance to prove they deserve the job. Also, it helps kids from really bad public schools get into college. If a black student goes to school in a ghetto with terrible teachers and crime all over the place, it is easy to see how they may have lower grades than the rich white kid whos parents spend thousands on private tutors and help programs. I believe everyone should get a chance to better their life.

Ugh. This is why we don't agree on anything political. lol.
I was thinking about what you said earlier. It'd be opposite role play for us. You'd be Ashley and I'd be Zac. That'd be werid.
