I'm wondering...because I'm not sure if I do or not. I'm on the fence. State your reasons as to why or why not; I'm just curious.

I'm a Christian.

No, I don't.

I don't really have a specific "reason" or anything, I guess just that there's not enough proof for me and I've never been very religious anyways. The whole idea of a god is just too far-fetched for me.

Yup, I do

EDIT: I'm a Christian, I got saved when i was 7, and I was raised with it, I've never doubted my belief, and nothing will ever make me doubt it ;]

pinkguitar, by opening this discussion I believe that you are really looking for an answer to the question, you will find that a lot of the individuals, here who believe in God base their belief on the bible or judea-christian beliefs which is also where I come from. Because of your question, i'm not going to recommend you start your search there. St Thomas Aquinas, a christian theologian has some proofs that argues the existance of God, based on logic, if you want I can try to find you that book on the internet.

But if you do or don't is really up to you, other peoples opinions shouldnt lean you towards one way or another

I don't to a certain extent. I mean I WANT to, just to feel better about what happends after death, etc.
But to be honest I am more for evolution and science. I also think some hate is preached in churches and stuff.
I believe in God, but only that he exists. I don't think he's done much.

I don't, there is no evidence for God. I'm not really sure what your looking for by asking here, but I'd try reading some books by people like Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens or Sam Harris and see what you think. I'd try Harris first, it's far lighter than anything by Hitchens or Dawkins.

What does IMHO mean, anyway?

ElPiedra

Oh...well, that's your opinon, I guess.
What does IMHO mean, anyway?

It means: In my humble opinion, I think. And well, I can see where she's coming from. If the bible is taken to the truth, then humanity as a whole is nothing but one big, happy, inbred family.

More so, if people take it to be completely true, then the book would make absolutely no sense whatsoever (from a logical standpoint). Hence, the Bible would not be evidence due to the extraordinary acts committed, and the events which transpire in it, since they are far from any conceivable realm of possibility.

On the other hand, arguing that it is in fact something spiritual, that it is open to free interpretation, well, then that strengthens the argument that it is not proof at all. If something is an abstract thing itself, how can it be used as concrete evidence?

huskerrich
07-10-2008, 09:29 PM
krrristin, I accept that because I also believe that the bible is a compiled work of books by authors inspired by god and if you don't accept the existence of God it would be difficult to prove the existance of God through the bible, but to be honest I am off topic of the purpose of the originator of this thread. imho(in my honest opinion)

I don't know what I believe in really. I didn't grow up having any kind of religion or whatever, but I go to a Catholic school so I know quite a bit about different beliefs and stuff. I've also been reading about other religions lately which are really interesting.

I guess I believe that there's probably some kind of higher power because strange unexplainable things do happen in my life from time to time, but I don't think that there's really a "god" like many religions teach.

Idk, I'm just really uncertain about everything when it comes to faith.

I do, I'm Christian. I not a Christian because my parents are (they aren't) or anything, that's who I am. You shouldn't base your views on someone else's or think something because you parents do or someone told you to, you have the right to your own opinion.

From Douglas Adams novel "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy."

"The bable fish is definate proof of the nonexistance of God. The arguement goes something like this.

I refuse to prove I exist says God because proof denies faith and without faith I am nothing.

Oh says man isn't the fact the bable fish exists proves your existance?

Oh I hadn't thought about that and God disappears in a puff of logic.

Oh that's easy says man and he later goes on the prove that black equals white and gets himself killed at the next pedestrian crossing."

In all seriousness people have been debating and pondering the question if a higher power exists for centuries. I believe there is since all cultures believe in a higher power in one form or another. And our universe has certain constants in it. If that balance didn't exist our universe wouldn't exist and life wouldn't exist.

It's a question of faith and faith is the belief in something which can not be proven.

I do.
I guess because I was raised to believe in God.
But I'm not really that religious.

I think I believe in some form of higher being, but I'm not exactly sure of what I mean. I don't believe that the Bible is meant to be true, I believe that the Bible is a grouping of stories meant to be interpreted, not to be taken in the exact words that it says. How do we know that the Bible isn't really just a compilation of fictional stories that is just supposed to outline the basic ideals of the Christian faith? We just as a race don't know much of anything, considering all that there is to know out there, so we may never find out what the true basis of all of this is. It just gives people something to believe in to put pride in. So whatever you feel is the right religion is.

I don't really know what I think? I mean, I don't believe that god created us? I believe that we all started out smaller, as organisms, and evolved after millions upon millions of years, though...I do think there is some "Higher power" I just don't know what.
-shrug- I don't even really know what I'm talking abouttttt, because I don't know whats true and what isn't. Its everyone else's personal view.

I agree with you! How are you alive today if God didn't create you...and NO, I don't want to hear mess like, "My mom made me." God made the first people, who had children, who had children, and so on.

This thread isn't to start fights or a chance for you to force people to believe in what you do, so if you want to state your opinion thats fine, but lets not start a fight about it. Everyones opinion is different, and that's a good thing.

bad place to post this thread. im not gonna even try to read it. but i can predict 99% of the members saying they believe and everyone else will be punished for not believing BECAUSE thats what there parents say and thats what they grew up learning. it's better ot have this sort of thread on a forum of mostly adults or atleast 15 up or something so they actually know what there talking about.

no offence to people.

I don't actually know what I am.
If someone says they don't believe in God, I pledge to the Christianity side of me.
If they're superdooper Christian, I disagree with them.
I think its my family, though. My brother does the same thing. :P

I haven't really researched any other religions; so I'm not sure what I am yet. My town/county isn't very culturally diverse (that includes religion) so the majority of us are Christians, or Agnostics. My friend is Wiccan, though, which I find sincerely awesome.
