`finally it’s OUR TIME NOW
HEHE…
I don’t feel the need for a constant explanation of why I’m writing another FF.
You guys already know ;)
Well, if you’ve read all my others, than yeah.
Otherwise, good for you! Haha.
P.S. This is a HANNAH MONTANA FF. It involves the characters from HM, but DOESN’T center around just Miley.
Q & A
Will you write another FF after this one? Psh, knowing me, probably. But I may not post it for awhile
(like with this one, all or most of the chapters are already written).
Are you accepting anyone? No, sorry…I have my characters all set up in the story and such.
Who’s POV is it in? NARRATOR. Well, mostly at least, unless otherwise stated in the chapter.
Will there be a sequel to this? NO. This one does not require a sequel. You’ll see at the end xD
How come you don’t post chapters every day? Simple. I have a life outside of the computer (gasp, yes, even in the summer!)—
I have work, camp, and then more work the ENTIRE month of July.
August is totally free for me, but I’m still not going to spend every waking moment on the computer. So do not expect a chapter a day.
What’s the plot? Here:
They had an amazing relationship when they were teenagers, but they grew apart and eventually the flame (like most) was put out.
Now she’s going to marry the ‘guy of her dreams’, while he’s left to suffer from the sidelines. So when their paths cross again, all that’s needed is time.
And although anything is possible within that endless boundary, it’s hard not to make life-changing mistakes.
(It’s a Nilly FF…Nick and Lilly.) Like it? If so, read. If not, boo, shame on you. Hehe JK.

Chapter 1:
Getting Married in Two Months!
“I can’t believe I’m getting married in two months!” Lilly screamed, over-excitedly. She had been gabbing all about her fiancée for the entire morning, and Miley was just trying to keep up.
“Yeah, it’s exciting!” She squealed, trying to be equally excited. Then the phone rang. The 7-months-pregnant Miley tried to waddle over to the phone, but Lilly beat her to it.
“Hello?” She sang into the phone.
“Lilly? Hey, it’s Jake.”
“Omigod, Jake? Miley’s been dying to talk to you. I think I’ll give her the phone before she tires herself out walking over here,” Lilly giggled as she stood up and handed Miley the phone.
“Thank you, Lillian.”
“Don’t call me by my full name; you know how much I hate that!”
“Exactly WHY I do it.”
Lilly groaned and walked into Miley’s kitchen, hoping for something tasty and delectable…but found nothing. She walked back out into the TV room, where Miley was gushing over her husband. Lilly waved a quick goodbye, Miley barely noticing enough as to give her a head nod, and then opened the door and stepped into her car—a Hybrid Tahoe. Not exactly the smallest car, but she loved it just the same.
When she got home, Lilly didn’t expect her husband there. “Matt? What are you doing home? I thought you were at work,” she smiled, giving him a hug.
He pulled away, still with his hands on her waist. “I took the day off, sweetie. So we could send out invitations, remember?”
Lilly glanced at the clock. “Oh I am SO sorry, I forgot! I stayed over a Miley’s and the time just got away from us—“
“It’s fine, Lillykins,” he said in a cutesy voice, giving her a quick kiss on the lips. “Let’s just get crackin’ with these invites, alright?”
“Sure.”
And so the process of signing, addressing, and mailing what seemed like hundreds of invites commenced. “God, I had no idea I have so many friends!” Lilly gasped, her hand throbbing from writing so much.
“Me too, dear. By the way, where will all my friends sit when—“
He was interrupted by the doorbell. Lilly stood up to answer it. It was Miley again. “Miley?” Lilly asked, completely unaware that her best friend had alerted her to her coming earlier.
“What a warm welcoming committee,” she teased. “Big news, very big news!” She squealed.
“What? What?!”
“Guess who’s coming to stay with me for two months?”
“Who?”
“THE JONAS BROTHERS! Remember them?” She exclaimed excitedly.
Lilly’s eyes bulged and her mood instantly sank. The JONAS Brothers? Are you freaking kidding me?
“W-what? Of course I remember…but…WHY? I didn’t even invite them to the wedding!”
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, I did that for you. They’re sitting at our table too.”
“WHAT?!”
That was all Lilly could take. She pushed her heavily pregnant friend out of the doorway and onto the walkway. “How could you invite the Jonas Brothers? After what happened with me and Nick? I am NOT ready to talk to him again,” Lilly crossed her arms across her chest.
“Oh come on, it’s been 3 years. And plus, you’ve moved on to Matt, and I’m sure Nick moved on too.”
“Are you sure?”
“Totally. Just, give them a chance. Come on, they’re our best friends, and we haven’t seen them since the big move.”
By ‘the big move’, Miley means moving back to New Jersey. But they’re still as famous as ever.
“Fine, just…they’re staying with you right?”
“Yep. Two months, two guestrooms, three beds, three guys.”
“No need for an equation, Miles.”
“Right. Well, I’ll leave you and Matt alone, okay? See you tomorrow!”
“Bye!” Lilly ran back inside. Matt came up to her, looking concerned.
“What was that all about?”
“Oh, nothing, just…a few old friends coming to stay with Miley for a few months…oh and they’re invited to the wedding too, evidently.”
“Oh, that’s nice,” he said, ignoring how much bad emphasis Lilly had put on ‘friends’.
I CAN NOT believe Miley. Two months with the Jonas’?! You have GOT to be kidding me, Lilly thought to herself. I wonder how Nick’s doing, after all this time…
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Which color?” Joe pondered, holding both hue palettes up to the wall. You see, he finally got a new room of his own, and he wanted it to be sort of a rocker-punk style. He was deciding between a red color palette and a gray and black color palette for the walls.
“Joe, honestly…why would you even want RED walls? It just seems…I don’t know; emo to me,” Kevin interjected.
Joe turned around, still holding the thin pieces of paper up in his hands. “What, just because it’s the color of blood? God, Kevin, lighten up. Get your head out of the underworld, for crying out loud. And I LIKE red. It’s very…bold, different, and unique,” he chuckled, “just like me.”
Kevin rolled his eyes and Nick alerted them to his going to get the mail. He ran outside and opened the mailbox, surprised to only see a few envelopes. He took them out and slowly walked back inside, sorting through them. He tossed the bills onto Kevin’s bed (unintentionally) and then came to the last letter. It was a pale, light—almost mint—green, with fancy writing on the envelope. It was quite obvious that it was a wedding invitation, but frankly had no return address.
Wonder who’s getting married, he thought to himself, slowly ripping open the envelope. The moment he saw the picture, he stopped breathing. There were two pictures actually—the first, that made him hold his breath, was of Lilly Truscott. His one true love, now probably forgotten by her. The other was of some guy, obviously her fiancée at this point.
He’s not even that attractive, he thought, trying to cheer himself up. But it didn’t work. And when Joe saw his face, he snatched the invite from Nick’s hand and read it, jumping up and down like a child. Kevin read over Joe’s shoulder, and Nick sank onto his bed, trying to make himself as small as possible. He avoided his brothers’ pleading glares.
“I am NOT going, guys. Don’t make me,” he responded, to their silent expressions.
“We’re not going to make you, but you know…just think about it,” Kevin said, shrugging and tossing the invitation next to Nick and dragging Joe out of the room.
Think about it. Think about what? Nick thought. It’s not like I want to see the girl I love marrying some sketch.
He sat on his bed for a few hours, pondering the topic. He finally concluded: If he went, he may be heart broken and upset at times, but at least he’ll get to see Lilly and hang around with her. If he didn’t go, he’d just be thought of as a jealous ex-boyfriend.
He poured everything in his drawers and most of what was in his closet into two suitcases and carried them to Joe and Kevin’s room. “When does the flight leave?”
Joe grinned excitedly, doing exactly what Nick had just done—“packing” his suitcase with his entire wardrobe. Kevin patted Nick on the shoulder, and started packing his suitcase also, only his was a lot more organized; practically the opposites of their personalities, but Nick couldn’t care less about the messes of suitcases he was carrying.
All he wanted to do was see Lilly.

Haha yeah, well, she is 23 :P Here's the next chapter:
Chapter 2:
Cooking for the Boys
Lilly rolled the curling iron up until it almost touched her scalp. She held it there for a few seconds, released the hair contained in it, and smiled at the perfect barrel curl it made. She repeated this many more times, until her whole head was curly and bouncy. She fingered through the curls to make them look a tiny bit more natural, and unplugged the curling iron.
She took a look at her outfit in the full length mirror—dark jeans, white tank top, old turquoise Converse (from when she was a teenager), and an old black vest (another cherished teenage memoir). It’d have to do…it’s not like she was going to a red carpet event or anything (which she had gotten quite used to once the world knew Miley was Miley Stewart and not just Hannah Montana). The Jonas’ were no excuse to dress up, at least in Lilly’s opinion.
She noticed that Matt left for work early…he hadn’t woken her up, just left a note on the kitchen table. Lilly sighed and grabbed a few things and then headed over to Miley’s house.
The heavily pregnant brunette answered the doorbell with a gigantic smile plastered to her face. Lilly almost groaned at the sight of it, but instead planted a forced smile on her face too, as much as she didn’t want to.
“So when are they going to be here?” Lilly asked, uninterested but trying to be believable.
“They’ll be here in…” she glanced at the clock, and pondered something, as if figuring out a complicated math problem in her head. “I think…2 hours? They called me at 8 telling me they’d be here at 11:30 and it’s 9:30, so…”
“Yeah, that would be two hours, Miles. Don’t hurt yourself,” Lilly teased.
“Hey, just because math was never my best subject doesn’t mean we still have to dwell on it,” Miley huffed, flicking a loose hair out of her face and heading for the kitchen.
“What are you doing?” Lilly groaned.
“Cooking, duh! Oh, silly Lilly, you’ll understand soon enough.”
“What could you POSSIBLY be cooking at 9:30 in the morning?”
“Food, for the boys! They always come hungry…well, at least Joe does…”
“That’s one thing I remember,” Lilly muttered under her breath, chuckling a little. Miley didn’t notice, and just kept cooking.
“If you don’t need any assistance being the designated cook, I’m going to watch TV, okay?” She joked, and Miley just nodded her head, giving Lilly the approval to watch TV instead of help her in the kitchen.
She flipped through the channels, finally landing on some music videos. She was watching a vintage Switchfoot video when something a little too familiar came on. Lilly rolled her eyes when she realized it was the Jonas Brothers…it was one of their older videos. She recalled being backstage at this one, and it was when Nick and her were dating.
She shuddered at the thought. Stop thinking about that, you have Matt now. HE’S the one you love, she thought to herself.
But she still got goosebumps listening to the song.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nick stared out the window, now feeling more and more reluctant to be going back to California. He didn’t want to see Lilly happy with anyone else but him.
But then again, he was happy he could show Lilly he moved on and maybe make her feel as bad as he did. Or at least fake it.
He rested his elbow on the armrest in his seat on the airplane. He sighed. Kevin didn’t believe his ‘I want to go to California!’ act for one second, and now he had a valid selling point. “Having regrets?” He said, scaring Nick out of his skin.
“No, just, tired, is all,” Nick replied, trying to hide it.
Kevin grunted in disbelief, but didn’t say anything more. Nick needed to either learn to deal by himself, or get a grip on reality. Either way, somebody won.

Chapter 3:
The Arrival
“Oh, I can’t wait to see the boys! It’s been so long, we have so much to catch up on!” Miley squealed in excitement, now reminding Lilly they would be there in just minutes.
“Yeah, great, uh huh, amazing, can’t wait,” Lilly grunted, not even trying to fake happiness anymore.
“Stop being such a pessimist, Lils. I know you want to see them,” she grinned.
“Okay, MAYBE it would be nice seeing them after all this time, but I don’t know…I mean, Nick and I…we just, we didn’t end on such a positive note and—“
She was interrupted by the doorbell ringing. Miley squealed in excitement and ran to the front door, pausing only to catch her breath before opening it and squeezing two of the victims to death.
“I MISSED YOU GUYS!” She screeched.
“We…missed you too Miley…” Two male voices choked. Lilly guessed it was Kevin and Joe (and she was correct).
Obviously Nick would want to wait to see me, she thought. I would too.
“Nick’s getting the luggage. He’s being a pessimist right now about all this,” Joe mumbled, just loud enough for Lilly to hear.
“That makes two of them in this house,” Miley replied, implying Lilly.
“Excuse me?!” She screamed, stomping to the front door. “I AM NOT A PESSIMIST!”
“Sorry,” Miley backed off. Kevin and Joe pulled Lilly into a hug.
“We’ve missed you so much! How’ve you been? What’s happening?”
“I’ve missed you guys too,” she answered. “And well, I’ve been…great, actually. Matt—my fiancée—is just amazing.”
Miley cleared her throat obnoxiously right after that, but Lilly brushed it off.
LILLY’S POV
I don’t know why Miley just cleared her throat like that. But whatever, may as well not dwell on things of the past…minute, at least.
And I also don’t know why, but my feet led me outside. I stopped at the taxi the Jonas’ had taken, only to see Nick struggling with six bags.
I laughed. “Want some help?”
He looked up at me strangely. It looked as though he didn’t want to see me, but still replied, “Sure, an extra two hands would be helpful.”
He sounded much less than content right then. But I took two of the bags and followed him inside. We dropped them in the living room, and I noticed Joe, Kevin, and Miley looking at us strangely.
“What?” We asked in unison. We looked at each other and then back at everyone else. “What?” We repeated.
“Oh nothing,” Joe sing-sang in a girly voice.
I cleared my throat briefly and then awkwardly said, “I’m gonna go help Miley in the kitchen.”
I fast-walked into the kitchen and Miley pleaded at me, her blue eyes shining. “Please give them a chance. They’re still the awesome, fun-loving guys you were best friends with in high school.”
I sighed. “I never said I wasn’t still best friends with them.”
“Good! What about Ni—“
“Don’t even go there. I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Alright. Now I have a question: Did you actually come to help me, or did you come to escape the tenseness?”
“Both?”
She sighed this time. “Well, now that you’re in here and are at least 20% willing to help, could you go get the milk from the basement refrigerator?”
“Uh, sure.”
I walked out of the kitchen, through the living room where the boys were talking, and then opened the door to the basement.
“Lilly, where are you going?” Nick asked me. I turned around, shocked he was actually interested.
“I’m going to tunnel to China,” I joked. He obviously didn’t understand the joke and walked up to me. “I’m going to get the milk! What, you thought I was serious?” I laughed a little.
“Oh, hehe, right,” he said awkwardly.
“Yeeaahh,” I exaggerated, opening the door to the basement. I trotted down the stairs, went into the back room (where the fridge was), and got the milk. I stood in the main room, now realizing it was a bedroom. And by the guitars, I assumed it was Nick’s.
“I raided your bedroom, Nick,” I teased as I closed the door.
“You what?”
“Never mind. That IS your room downstairs, right?”
“Yeah, how did you—“
“I just knew; chill-ax.”
“Oh, um, do you think—“
Suddenly there was a crash, coming from the kitchen. We all ran in, only to find Miley with flour all over herself and a metal bowl on the ground. Kevin ran over and picked it up for her. Miley giggled and I smiled. Same old Miley, always being a klutz. I’m surprised she didn’t do that earlier.
“Smooth, Miles, smooth,” I smiled, tying to hold my laughter in as I grabbed her a towel to clean herself up.
“Oh be quiet. Cooking’s harder than you think,” she fired back.
“Uh huh, and that explains why I cooked for YOU before you got married. Uh huh, it’s all starting to make sense to me now,” I teased, finally starting to laugh.
Miley just smiled and playfully punched me in the arm. I couldn’t stop laughing.
NICK’S POV
I missed that laugh…wait, what am I saying? She’s getting married, she moved on, I SHOULDN’T LOVE HER ANYMORE.
But what if I still do?

Chapter 4:
Private Conversation Leads to Stupid Questions
LILLY’S POV
We all sat down to dinner a little while later, after I finally took Miley’s place in the kitchen. She insisted she help with something, so I let her set the table. Although it wasn’t the most fun job, she at least got to catch up with the Jonas’. I, on the other hand, wanted to stay as far away from them as possible for as long as possible.
“Wow, Lilly, this is amazing,” Joe complimented, stuffing his face with food.
“Thanks, Joseph. Now please, mind your manners?” I teased.
“I’m 26 years old, I think I know how to have manners, thank you.”
“Okay then.”
“So, Lilly, tell us about Matt,” Kevin said, changing the subject.
“Oh, Matt? Well, he’s just amazing and we both love each other very much,” I smiled. “We’re meeting with the wedding planner tomorrow to get a few details worked out and talk about a few things.”
“I don’t mean to be nosy, but what kind of things will you be talking about?” Miley asked.
“It’s not nosy, Miley. And well, we’re talking about colors for the wedding, and...Well, Matt wanted to talk about,” I hesitated, and then pointed to Miley’s stomach, “kids,” I giggled.
I think I saw Nick cringe.
NICK’S POV
Kids? KIDS?! Why must she talk about stuff like that in front of me? Why must she torture me when I know I’m NOT going to be the one marrying her? Why, why, why?!
Once dinner was over and Miley and Kevin took the dishes to wash them, I pulled Lilly aside. “Lilly, may I talk to you in private?” I whispered.
She raised an eyebrow. “Sure, I guess.”
I pulled her downstairs into my room in the basement and she sat down on the bed. “So…how’ve you been?” She asked, trying to break the awkward silence.
“Pretty good, you?”
“Great…any girlfriends you’d like to tell me about?”
“I-I dated a few girls, but none could ever compare.” Shoot, I said ‘compare’. That always means I’m comparing them to someone else, like Lilly! Oh God I hope she doesn’t realize it.
“Oh, compare to what?” Thank goodness, she didn’t. Better come up with a quick comeback.
“True love…they don’t compare to true love, that’s all.”
“So, no special girl you want to spend the rest of your life with?”
“Well, there is this one girl…”
“Who?”
“Uh…I’d rather not say.”
“Okay, okay. I’ll hear about it when I get the invitation to the wedding, right?”
I swallowed hard. “Yeah, sure.”
She was so oblivious. The girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with was HER.
“Um, Lilly?” I asked.
She looked up from playing with the edges of the covers on my bed. “Yeah?”
“Are you in love with Matt?” STUPID QUESTION, NICK. STUPID QUESTION.
“Well, yeah of course, I mean…why?”
“Just wondering,” I said, faking a genuine smile.
“Okay…”
We sat in silence for a while and then she broke it by concluding, “Well, it was nice talking to you. I’m going to go home, it’s getting late and Matt’s probably back by now.”
“O-Okay, see you tomorrow.”
“Yep, see you tomorrow. Bye!”
“Bye.”
Lilly took the stairs two at a time and walked out of Miley’s house. I got a strange feeling as soon as she left. Jealousy, depression, separation anxiety (as odd as that sounds), I don’t know.
Miley came down later to remind me that the next day Matt was coming to meet everyone. I forced a smile, and said goodnight. She closed the basement door and I stared out at the stars.
I wanted to meet Matt, but why did I get such a strong feeling that Miley didn’t like him as much as Lilly?

Know what, I'm posting the next chapter :) Here:
Chapter 5:
I Hate Him
LILLY’S POV
The next morning, Matt and I made our way to Miley’s house, fingers intertwined. I was excited for them all to meet the guy who was ‘the one’ for me. Matt looked just as excited also.
We rang the doorbell, and I wasn’t surprised to see Kevin answer. He let us in, and the introductions began.
Kevin shook Matt’s hand. “Hello, I’m Kevin Jonas,” he said politely.
Joe did the same, and then Nick was last. He didn’t look too thrilled to meet him. “Hey, I’m Nick Jonas,” he said bluntly. Matt introduced himself and smiled widely at my best friends.
The boys sat down in the living room and bonded while I went to find Miley. And I found her in, none other than, the kitchen. “Miles, how many times do I have to tell you? Cooking is not what I’d call your strong point,” I smiled.
She looked up from whatever she was cooking and just smirked. “At least I can make good pancakes without messing them up!”
“That’s the ONLY thing you can make without messing them up!” I teased.
She continued making her pancakes, which I must say, was a very neat (and non-messy) experience. I was so proud of her.
While the pancakes were cooking, Miley and I just talked. I sighed. “Isn’t Matt just the greatest? He was so nice and genuine with the guys when he met them, don’t you think?”
Miley nodded. “Uh huh, yeah, he’s amazing alright.”
I kept gushing over Matt until the oven beeped and Miley shuffled all of us to the dining room to sit down and eat our breakfast (which was more than pancakes, thanks to me). Everyone seemed very content, which made me ecstatic. I was so glad that Matt was bonding with all of them this easily.
Even Nick looked happy.
NICK’S POV
I am SO not happy.
This Matt dude—Lilly’s fiancée and evidently ‘the one’—was totally fake. I could sense it when he smiled. There was the feeling of ‘I think I’ll paint a smile on my face today so my fiancée and her friends love me’.
Yeah, not gonna happen.
I looked around at my brothers. Neither of them looked comfortable, but I don’t think they felt as much as I did about Matt. They just didn’t feel comfortable with him.
Miley looked content though. It may have been because she was proud of herself for making something without making a mess, but that’s just my assumption. She looked at Lilly a little oddly whenever she gushed about Matt.
I hate him.
I hate him.
I hate him.
I hate him.
I hate him.

Chapter 6:
I Guess Lilly Forgot How to Read
MILEY’S POV
A while after breakfast, Matt and Lilly left to go meet with their wedding planner. I didn’t even want to think about it.
I was cleaning the dishes, and put a clean one away and sighed. Nick came into the kitchen. “I have a question for you,” he said.
I turned and looked at him. “Shoot.”
“Do you like Matt?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Do you think Matt’s right for Lilly?”
“I’m happy with whoever Lilly chooses; I just want her to be happy.”
“Then do you think Lilly’s happy being with Matt?”
“Now what kind of a question is that, Nick? Just because you’re jealous doesn’t mean you have to go blaming Lilly.”
“I never said I was jealous.”
“Oh please, Nick, it’s written all over your face whenever she’s around.”
“Well then I guess Lilly forgot how to read,” he concluded, walking out of the room.
Poor boy. The girl he loves is marrying another man; of whom I’m still not too sure about.
We’ll just have to wait and see, now, won’t we?

Chapter 7:
Forever and Always
NICK’S POV
I don’t even know why I’m still in love with Lilly. I’m the one that ended the relationship so horribly and tragically. I shouldn’t have feelings for her anymore. But I do. And it’s killing me to watch her marry someone who isn’t me. I wish I could’ve told her sooner, maybe she wouldn’t have met him and fallen in love. Why would she love a guy as fake as Matt, also?
But there’s another question I want to ask her: Is she really in love?
--flashback--
The small breeze blew around us, blowing the spit of the ocean up onto our skin. I tightened my grip on her hand as she splashed into the ankle-deep tide. She pulled me in with her, so our feet were engulfed in water. I put my hands on her waist and lifted her up, spinning her around in the air.
She giggled as I put her back down. “Isn’t the ocean so beautiful?”
“Not as beautiful as you,” I whispered, and she giggled again.
“Hold on to things you can’t explain
Hold on to dancing in the rain
Hold on to kisses on the lips
Savor every sweet moment, cause baby this is it,” I sang to her. It was one of the only times I’d ever sang country. She smiled.
“Can you make me a promise?” She asked.
I nodded. “Anything for you.”
“Promise me we’ll always be together, and nothing will ever separate us. We’ll be together forever,” her green eyes sparkled as she said it.
I intertwined our fingers. “I promise. Forever and always.”
She smiled and molded the fingers on her other hand into the ‘I love you’ sign. I did the same, and pulled her in for a kiss.
--end flashback--
I rested my head in my hands and looked around my basement residence. I pulled out my acoustic guitar and started playing ‘Hold On’ by Jack Ingram. As soon as I got to those lyrics, I felt a tear slide down my cheek. I strummed lightly and then gave up playing. I rested the guitar on my knees and then heard a knock at the basement door. I wiped my face and looked as casual as possible as someone made their way down the stairs.
“Hey Nicky,” Lilly teased. I smiled.
“Hey Lils. What are you doing back so early?”
“The meeting was cut short. Apparently Matt had some work thing he had to do.”
“Oh.”
“So, I heard you playing.”
“You did?”
“Yeah, I remember that song…you sang it to me at the beach when we were 17, remember?”
“Yes, I do. It seems so long ago now.”
“Six years…a lot has changed.”
“Yeah.”
“Can you play it again? I love hearing you sing it,” she smiled.
I grinned and nodded my head. I played it again. When I looked up at her again after the song, she had her hand in the ‘I love you’ sign. It was obvious she didn’t mean it the way I wanted her to, but I still loved seeing her do that. She giggled.
“Do you remember our conversation after?” I asked.
“What, you mean those three sentences?” She teased. “Yeah, I do.”
“’Forever and always,’” I whispered, looking down at my guitar. “What happened to that?” I didn’t mean to sound as angry as I did.
She looked taken aback. “We changed. I grew up, and moved on.” She hesitated.
I looked up at her. She continued. “Now it’s your turn, Nick.”
Lilly walked back up the stairs and slammed the door behind her. I sighed, falling backwards onto the bed.
I didn’t want to grow up and move on. I wanted her.
Chapter 8:
Obviously I’m Here for All the Wrong Reasons
NICK’S POV
Well, there’s one month to the worst day of my life. I think half of me is already dead.
Lilly had a dinner with her fiancée’s boss and his wife tonight. I wonder how that’s going.
LILLY’S POV
I walked downstairs in my white shift dress that was adorned with jewels on the hem. I wasn’t happy walking in my 3-inch heels either. I met Matt by the front door.
“Wow, you look…amazing,” he said. I couldn’t smile in as much pain as I was in right now.
“Matt, this is SO not me. I’m not a heels girl. Or a dress girl, for that matter,” I pouted.
“But you have to dress like this to impress my boss and his wife, Lilly,” he replied sternly. “You’ll be fine.”
“That’s what you think,” I muttered under my breath. He held out his arm and I held onto it as we walked to his car. We did the same thing when we got to their house. Which, might I say, is HUGE. It’s like, mansion-huge. No, bigger than mansion-huge. It’s like, colossal-huge.
Yeah, it’s THAT big.
The two gigantic double doors opened, and Matt’s boss—Bob Nelson—and his wife Lisa stood in the doorway. They smiled widely.
“Why, Matt and Matt’s fiancée! How nice to see you! Please, come in,” Lisa greeted a little too happily.
I smiled a little and introduced myself to them. They led us to the dining room—which could’ve been a restaurant in itself—and sat down. Matt sat next to me, and was constantly whispering to me what to say.
“I have a mind of my own, Matt,” I whispered harshly back to him. He glared at me from the corner of his eye and I shook my head a little and subtly rolled my eyes.
“SO, Matt, tell us about your relationship!” Lisa squealed.
“Well, Lilly and I are so in love with each other. I’m the luckiest man in the world right now to be marrying her in one month. The moment we met, we were both just taken,” Matt grinned.
“Oh, please tell us about the first moment you met each other!” Lisa replied.
“Alright. We were both walking on the sidewalk and bumped into each other. She was carrying a lot of books and things, and I helped her pick them up—just like they do in high school. The moment we looked into each other’s eyes, it was love.”
I glared at Matt, burning holes into his skull. That was NOT how we met. It was the FARTHEST thing from it. We met because he was at a Hollywood event (when I was more famous than I am now) and I had to pose with him. He was being obnoxious at the time, but everyone pressured us to get to know each other.
Was that such a diminishing story that he couldn’t tell his own boss?!
That was all I could take. “Um, excuse me, but may I ask where the bathroom is?” I asked.
Bob pointed to the stairs. “Upstairs, third door on the right.”
“Thank you,” I replied politely. I took my purse and went up the stairs quickly. I closed the door to the bathroom and sat down on the closed toilet seat. I took out my phone, realizing I got a text message.
To: Lilly
From: Nick
How’s dinner going?
To: Nick
From: Lilly
Not so well. Let’s just say I might b here 4 the wrong reasons.
To: Lilly
From: Nick
What r u talking about? I thought Matt was ‘the one’.
To: Nick
From: Lilly
Never mind. I have 2 get back before they come looking.
To: Lilly
From: Nick
Where r u?
To: Nick
From: Lilly
Bathroom. Bye.
To: Lilly
From: Nick
Bye.
I put my phone away and flushed the toilet and washed my hands, pretending to have gone to the bathroom. I walked back down the stairs, and overheard Bob Nelson praising Matt.
“Your first meeting was just like Lisa’s and mine! And look how well we turned out,” he winked. “Well, Mr. Roberts, you may just have yourself a promotion soon!”
My eyes widened. I walked swiftly back into the room and didn’t sit down. “Thank you for dinner, but I don’t think I should stay any longer. All the lies,” I exaggerated, staring at Matt, “are getting to me. Obviously I’m here for all the wrong reasons. Goodnight and goodbye.”
I stormed out of the house, and down the sidewalk. I took off my heels so I could run, and noticed Matt was driving up next to me in his car. He slowed down and drove slowly next to me, rolling down his window.
“Come on, babe, please get in the car. We can talk about this.”
“Talk about what?! How you lied about our whole relationship just to get a promotion? What am I, a piece of meat? I thought you loved me!”
“I do love you, Lilly. I do. I didn’t mean to lie so much, but—“
“But what? Our first meeting was too disgraceful for you to explain?!” I sped up my pace, sprinting now.
“Lilly, honey! Please, get in the car. We can talk about this later! I’m sorry!”
“Sorry doesn’t pay the bills. Obviously that’s the only thing I’m here for!” I cried, tears filling my eyes. I wanted to forgive Matt, but I don’t know yet.
Eventually he gave up and drove home. But instead of going home myself, I went over to Miley’s house. Miley opened the front door and noticed how upset I was. She pulled me into a sisterly hug and sat down on the couch with me, allowing me to talk. I shook my head, declining, and she went to get me her old teddy bear, Beary Bear.
While I sat there alone, sniffling, I noticed Nick had come upstairs. He was looking at me with sad eyes. When Miley came back into the room, she noticed us both and then sat down on the couch, signaling it was okay for me to talk to Nick.
He brought me downstairs and I sat down on his bed. I finally let the tears fall.
“He was using me to get a promotion! He lied about everything about us!” I cried. Nick came onto the bed with me and sat next to me. He wrapped his arms around me and consoled me.
I wrapped my arms around his waist and he tightened his grip. It felt good to have someone who cared so much about me, even as a friend. I cried into his chest, and felt his shirt dampening, but he didn’t care. He gently rocked from side to side, trying to calm me down. My sobs ceased and I stopped crying after a while.
But then a few minutes later, we were both so calm (and tired) that we fell asleep on top of his bed, wrapped in each other’s arms.
---
NICK’S POV
The next morning, I woke up, remembering that Lilly was still with me. She had one arm draped over my waist lazily, and I had my arms around her, as if protecting her. I smiled to myself and looked at that clock. It was still only 6 AM…I guess I’ll go back to sleep.
MILEY’S POV
“Where’s Lilly and Nick?” I asked Joe and Kevin worriedly as they finished their breakfasts.
“Chill-ax, Miles, they’re fine down there. We’ve checked on them plenty of times,” Joe replied.
“What?! She stayed with him the entire night?”
“Yes, but it’s not like they did anything. They’re just asleep on top of his bed,” Kevin answered.
The doorbell rang. I got up to answer it and turned around, even more worried now. It was Matt.
Joe and Kevin sensed how I was feeling and walked into the living room, sort of blocking the basement door. “Hey Matt, what are you doing here so early?” I questioned, trying to act happy and surprised at the same time.
“Well, I didn’t see Lilly this morning and wanted to talk to her about last night. Is she here?”
“You betcha she’s here…but she’s busy right now. She’s in Nick’s room.”
Matt made his way to the door to the basement, pushing Kevin and Joe aside. “Oh, then I’ll go down there and—“
“NO!!” I yelled, stopping him in his tracks. “I mean…are you hungry? I have plenty of food here and you might want to eat some before going down there,” I bit my lip.
“What, what are you talking about?”
I couldn’t think of anything else to say. Feeling that the conversation was over, he opened the door and went down into the basement. I paced around the kitchen. It was all I could do to keep from crying and screaming.
LILLY’S POV
I woke up after I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. I felt Nick’s body tense up, implying he was awake already. Then I heard an all-too-familiar voice.
“LILLY?!” Shoot. It was Matt.
Both mine and Nick’s eyes widened as he took his arms off of me and I got off the bed. “Matt, it’s not what you think—“
“How could you do this?! Why were you sleeping with him?!”
“Well he’s better at consoling me than you are!” I snapped.
Nick’s eyes widened and he tried to make himself as small as possible.
“So you decide to sleep with someone other than me, your fiancée?!” He yells louder.
“It’s not what you think, Matt! We didn’t do anything, and it’s not like we were actually in the bed! I don’t like him like that, Matt, you have to understand!”
At this, Nick was just about done listening to me. I could see it in his eyes. He was angry. “Look Matt, I’m in love with you. Please, please forgive me. I’m so sorry.”
Matt softened and hugged me. “Okay, I forgive you.”
“Thank you,” I replied. We pulled away and then walked up the stairs. Before closing the basement door, I looked back at Nick. He avoided my gaze and ignored me.
I guess I deserve it anyways. I kind of played with his emotions.
But didn’t he do the same with mine?

Chapter 9:
Promises Are Meant to Be Broken
LILLY’S POV
“Hey party people!” I greeted loudly, barging through Miley’s front door.
Joe looked like a horrified girl and screeched, “EEEK!! DOESN’T ANYBODY KNOCK ANYMORE?!”
“Oh, shut it, Joey. You’re decent,” I snapped. He looked down at his clothes and pretended to sigh in relief. I rolled my eyes and Miley came in.
“Hungry?” She asked, holding up a plate of cookies. It was after lunch time when I got there.
I took four. “Man, are you starving or something? Why four?” She asked.
“One, to eat. Two, three, and four, to do this!” I chucked one cookie at each of the three brothers. Joe caught his in his mouth and chewed and swallowed, Kevin’s hit him in the face, and Nick’s hit him in the stomach. After Joe finished eating his, we were all curled over laughing our heads off.
“Just like old times,” Kevin smiled.
“Somewhat,” I muttered, looking at Nick. He looked away, nibbling on his cookie.
Miley clapped her hands together. “WELL…what brings you back here today, Lils?”
“Uh…I wanted to come over to hang out?” I turned the statement into more of a rhetorical question.
“RIGHT, um…so…uh…okay, I got nothing. Anybody else?” She stutters.
Nick still says nothing and Kevin looks like he’s deep in thought. Joe is flicking the air like there’s an imaginary bug flying around him, so he’s no help.
“Wait, Miley, I just remembered what we have to do today!” I said, breaking the silence and putting all eyes on me. I turned to Miley. “Does dress fitting ring a bell?”
“OMIGOD YOU’RE RIGHT! I forgot, today is the last dress fitting! Let’s go, let’s go!” She shuffled me out the door and we drove to the store.
NICK’S POV
Kevin came over and patted my shoulder when Lilly and Miley left. I shrugged it off. “Come on, dude. We’ve all seen how horrible Matt is. SHE saw how horrible Matt is. She can’t possibly be doing this,” he said, trying to cheer me up.
“Not helping,” I muttered.
He walked away, shrugging his shoulders and giving up. Joe tried to crack a joke, but I didn’t laugh. He went up to his and Kevin’s room. I opened the basement door with a grunt and sulked down the stairs.
Lilly’s actually doing this. She’s marrying a guy that lied about their entire relationship just to get a stupid promotion. What happened to the old Lilly? You know; the old, fun-loving, rebel that I fell in love with. I miss that girl. I miss her more than anything.
LILLY’S POV
I walked into the bridal shop with Miley nervously. I don’t know why I was nervous—I’ve been here a few times before for fittings.
The clerk behind the desk came out (and I recognized her) and got me my dress. She handed it to me with a huge (probably saleswoman-fake) smile on her face. I smirked and went into the dressing room.
I slipped on the dress and zipped it up myself. I walked out onto the mini pedestal surrounded by three mirrors and had my eyes closed tight. I don’t know why I didn’t want to see the dress, I’ve seen it so many times before, but right now I was reluctant to see it. I turned around so I was just facing Miley and not the mirrors. I opened my eyes. She looked me up and down and smiled.
“You look beautiful, Lilly!” She squealed. I sighed, spun on my heels, and looked at myself in the mirror.
I did look beautiful, alright. I just didn’t FEEL beautiful. Something didn’t feel right. Something in my heart told me this was all wrong, but my mind wanted to keep going.
The clerk walked away to give Miley and I some privacy, and I felt a tear fall from my eye. Why am I doing this? Why am I so upset when I should be happy? This is supposed to make me feel like the luckiest woman in the world, isn’t it? Well it’s not doing such a hot job.
“What’s wrong, Lil?” Miley asked when she saw the tear. She walked in front of the pedestal and I looked straight at her, trying to hide my emotions.
“Nothing, nothing. I love it,” I lied. Well, not entirely. I did love the dress, it was beautiful. I just hated how it made me feel.
“Okay, I’m gonna go wait outside. Holler if you need anything!” She said, walking out of the store and onto the sidewalk.
I sighed and jumped off the pedestal. I went back into the dressing room, took off the dress, and changed back into my normal clothes. I held the dress and then looked at myself in the mirror.
‘This isn’t the Lilly I know,’ I could just imagine Nick saying to me. ‘The Lilly I know wouldn’t lie about something like this. The Lilly I know would fight for what she believes in—even if it means losing someone.’
Another tear fell, but I wiped it away furiously. I didn’t need Nick. I didn’t want him, for that matter.
I stormed out of the dressing room, only to be stopped by the clerk. “How was the dress? Did you like it?” She asked, over-excitedly.
“I love it,” I fake-smiled. I handed it to her, and she waved goodbye. I ran out of the store, pushing Miley into her car.
“Whoa, gosh, slow down Missy,” she said, trying to stay balanced with her now 8½ -months-pregnant belly.
“Sorry, let’s go,” I said, gunning it. We got home in two minutes flat, thankfully with no po-pos (the police) on our tail for speeding. I jumped out of the car, barely stopping to help Miley get out.
“What’s her problem?” I heard Joe ask Miley as I ran through the back of her house to the beach.
NICK’S POV
“I don’t know, she just seemed…uptight about something. She was crying when she put on her dress,” I heard Miley answer Joe.
I looked to the door she ran out. Without thinking, I ran out after her. I found her sitting on the beach, watching the tide roll in. I sat down next to her and she looked spooked.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you,” I said quietly. She looked away. “What’s wrong, Lilly?”
She didn’t respond. “Was it something I said? Was it something I did?” I asked.
Then she looked at me, right in the eyes. “It isn’t you. It’s me. I have two weeks until the wedding and I’m…I don’t know…”
“Getting cold feet?”
“Well, not exactly, but…never mind, you wouldn’t understand.” She looked away, examining the sand.
“When have I not been known to understand?” I said, half-joking but half-serious. She held up some sand in her hand and did a demonstration.
“The sand in my hand is me, okay? Watch what happens when I open my hand—i.e. in real life, something bad happens,” she explained, opening her hand a little. Some sand fell out and blew away. “Part of my life gets thrown away, part of me dies. If I open my hand all the way, all the sand comes out,” she said, opening her fingers wide. There were just a few grains left. “See these grains still on my hand? That’s what’s going to be left of me soon. That’s it.”
She sighed and threw whatever remains of the sand back onto the ground. “Lilly, I don’t know much about marriage, but if you love the guy, marry him.” As much as it pained me to say it, I had to.
“But that’s the thing…I don’t know if I love him anymore.” YES, SCORE ONE FOR NICK! Wait, I mean…oh that’s horrible.
“Why not?”
“He just…he doesn’t…I don’t know, Nick, honestly. I wish I could go back in time.”
“Me too,” I mumbled. I sighed, reminiscing on memories. And I’m not saying they were all good ones, either.
--flashback--
The wind was blowing furiously, like a helicopter had landed around us. I would’ve given anything to have a helicopter escape right then (even as much as I hate helicopters).
“I can’t believe you! You said nothing could ever break us apart! What happened to promises?!” She screamed.
“Promises are meant to be broken, Lilly!” I screamed back, watching tears falling from her eyes. She pushed me back and walked away furiously, leaving me to eat her dust.
--end flashback--
“He promised everything would be okay, Nick, he promised. So why isn’t that happening?” She asked, looking at me with tears in her eyes.
I sighed. “Promises are meant to be broken, Lilly,” I replied quietly, standing up and walking back to Miley’s house.
Half of me wanted to give Lilly a second chance, but the other half didn’t. I mean, she wasn’t the one that broke us up before, but she’s the one that’s hurting me now.
I’m dying…from the inside to the outside.

Another DOUBLE POST!
Chapter 10:
Truths, Make-Ups, Birth, Naming
NICK’S POV
“Smoken’ Oken and Jake Ryan in da HOUSE!!” was all I heard when I stepped inside Miley’s house. I grinned, knowing my two old friends were here.
I greeted them with our signature secret handshakes, and was bombed with different conversations and questions. The most popular one was, “Where’s Lilly?”
“Out on the beach, drowning herself in her misery,” I muttered under my breath.
“Huh?” Oliver asked.
“On the beach,” I answered louder.
“Oh, coolio.”
I nodded my head a little and then the conversation started about Matt, Lilly’s fiancée. “So what are everyone’s general thoughts about him?” Kevin asked. By the way, Jake and Oliver have already met him, in a similar way that we did.
Joe began. “He’s not funny, that’s for sure.” We all laughed.
“Nick? Anything you’d like to say?” Kevin asked.
I turned to face everyone. “Yes, actually. He’s fake, a liar, not genuine, horrible, repulsive, and definitely not the ‘perfect guy’ for Lilly,” I said, venting how I really felt about the jerk.
“Yeah, I totally agree with you. I don’t like Matt either…he’s not good for Lilly, you know? I just don’t want to tell her that because then it’ll cause a load of troubles,” Miley agreed.
Then I turned around. Lilly was standing in the back doorway, with tears in her eyes. She had heard everything that Miley (not me, phew) said. “You don’t like Matt?!” She choked. “Why didn’t you tell me?!”
“Lilly, I—“ But Miley was cut off by Lilly bursting into tears and running back to the beach. Miley ran out after her, and that’s the last I saw of them for a while.
1 WEEK LATER
Miley and Lilly made up, and everybody is ‘happy’, if you can call it that. But, right now we’re just hanging at Miley’s house, all together (well, Matt is at work).
Miley and Jake were rubbing Miley’s belly. “I can’t wait!” She squealed. “Only a few more—uh oh,” she whispered, looking at her stomach.
Something didn’t seem right about her. She looked…I don’t know, different, I guess. Suddenly we all realized. “HER WATER BROKE!” We all yelled. Jake and Kevin picked Miley up and brought her into the car. Jake drove with Miley in the passenger seat and all of us squished into the back two rows.
I was next to Lilly, who was next to Oliver. In the row behind us, Joe and Kevin were next to each other.
Joe leaned forward when he noticed Lilly and I ignoring each other. “Hey, you know, maybe Miley would like it if you two, I don’t know, talked. Just to take the tenseness away and make her calmer, you know?”
Was he implying I forgive Lilly for the way she’s been treating me? Whatever, I mean…for Miley. “So, Lilly…”
She looked at me with daggers. “What?”
“Just…how’s life?” I asked awkwardly. “Excited for the wedding?”
“Sure, yeah, extremely,” she muttered.
“Ookaayy,” I stretched the word. “Um—“ I was cut off by the sound of the brakes screeching and Jake hustling everybody out, and taking Miley out and putting her in a wheel chair. He rolled her in, and somehow got into a room quickly. We weren’t allowed to go in (only Jake was), so we all sat in the waiting room.
Lilly and I still weren’t talking.
LILLY’S POV
Jake came running into the waiting room. “Lilly! I need you.”
I stood up quickly. “What? Why?”
“Miley’s been asking for you…she’s extremely stressed. And you know how bad that can be for the baby, right?”
“Yeah, I’m coming.”
I ran into the room with him and stood next to Miley’s bed. She grabbed my arm with her free hand that wasn’t holding Jake’s hand and squeezed as hard as she could. I yelped in pain but looked her straight in the eye.
“Lilly…I need to ask you a favor…” She gasped in between contractions.
“What? Anything!”
“Talk to Nick.”
“Say what?” I asked angrily, now forgetting about the pain she was causing on my arm.
“Please talk to Nick. I hate seeing you guys fight, and it’ll make me so much happier and…” she had another contraction, “less stressed. Please, for me,” she begged.
I relented, tugging my arm away from her grasp. It still had white and red marks on it from her fingers and nails. “Fine,” I said, walking away. She yelled a “thank you” and I went back into the waiting room.
“What happened?! What’s wrong?” Kevin asked, standing up immediately as I came in. I motioned for him to sit back down and he did.
“Nick, let’s take a walk,” I said politely. He looked a little freaked out, but came outside with me anyways.
“So, how’ve you been?” I asked, trying to start conversation before we even left the building.
He shrugged. “Okay. You?”
“I’ve been—“ We walked outside and a cold gust of air blew right into me, sending chills up and down my spine. “Cold,” I laughed.
He smiled. “No, I’ve actually been…well, okay, I guess. I don’t know,” I re-stated.
“Are you cold?” He asked, taking off his jacket and holding it out for me.
I looked from him to the jacket. “Nick, I’m fine, you don’t have to—“
“Take it,” he whispered, making me smile. I took it gratefully and wrapped it around my shoulders.
“Won’t you be cold though?” I asked, giggling.
“I’ll be fine, I just want you to be happy,” he smiled.
That one sentence changed my entire mood and thoughts about him. I stopped walking and he stood in front of me. “What’s wrong?” He asked.
“Nothing, it’s just…what do you think about Matt?”
“What do you mean? He’s…cool.”
“Honestly, Nick. I want to know.”
“Honestly? I hate him. Sorry.”
“Don’t be.”
“Why did you even ask me that?”
“I was just wondering. I’ve been thinking…”
“Lilly, listen, I need to tell you something.”
I looked up at him and he held onto my arms with both of his hands. “You know how I said I dated a few other girls and none of them compared?”
I didn’t know where he was going with this. “Yeah?”
“What I meant was they never compared to you and I. When we dated.”
I didn’t say anything, so he continued. “I never moved on, Lilly. I love you.”
Somebody slap me. Did he just say that? Did he just say he loved me?
“I love you too,” I replied quietly.
Now somebody shoot me. Did I just say that? Why did I just say that?
“Then why are you marrying Matt?!” He sounded angry.
“I-Nick…I—“
He smirked angrily. “When did your heart go missing, Lilly? I thought ‘forever and always’ meant something to you!”
“It did, I mean, it does, Nick!”
He let go of my arms and crossed his across his chest. “Oh, then what is it, huh? Just something you decided to say so you could be happy and then let me down? I treated you like a princess, but your life is just one big mess.”
With that he walked away. I yelled after him. “What if I told you that I never broke your promise?”
He stopped and turned around. “What the heck are you talking about? Of course you did, you—“
“No I didn’t, Nick, and you know that. When you moved away, I didn’t want to move on, but I did, okay? You know, people change and promises are broken sometimes!”
I stifled a smile from quoting “Take a Breath”, one of their old songs on their second CD. He walked up to me, softening.
“So what are you saying?”
“I’m saying, can we just be best friends again? You know, like old times?” I held out my hand.
He shook it awkwardly. “Sure.”
“Forever and always,” I promised.
He smiled. “Forever and always.”
We walked back inside and I handed him his jacket before we got back into the waiting room. I sat down next to Oliver and Nick sat down next to Joe. They were both gabbing to us, but neither of us could get what we just talked about off our minds.
Soon Jake came out, a huge smile on his face. We all followed him into the room and a chorus of ‘aw’ filled the room. Miley smiled, holding her new baby.
“Her name’s Lillian Rosemary Ryan, after our best friend,” she smiled. I got all teary and hugged her. I asked to hold Lillian (how odd does that sound?) and she was the most adorable thing in the world.
“Thank you, Miley. I’m touched,” I said quietly, unable to wipe the smile off my face. I handed her the baby and then looked over at Nick, who was smiling at me.
I smiled back and then started talking to Jake and Miley again.
NICK’S POV
The baby is beautiful, and that’s so sweet of Miley and Jake to name it after Lilly.
Speaking of Lilly…I hear the wedding’s still on. GREEAATTT.
But for the time being, I’m happy. Forever and always means something now…in terms of best friends. And for once, I’m pretty satisfied with that.
Chapter 11:
Wedding Day
LILLY’S POV
“Lilly, you look gorgeous!” Miley squealed, fixing something at the hemline of my dress.
I stared into the full length mirror, unable to respond. I mean, I did look amazing, but…it didn’t feel right. Something didn’t feel like me.
There was only 20 more minutes until the ceremony started and I had butterflies. And not the good kind either.
It might have been because of the heels Miley held up in front of my face. What are those, 5 inches high?! I pushed them away. “No way am I wearing those, Miles. I bet you can wear them, but I can’t.”
“But you have no other shoes! What will you do, go barefoot?”
“Better,” I smiled. I took out my white hi-top Converse from my bag. I slipped them on.
“Now it’s Lillified,” Miley giggled.
“Uh huh,” I grinned. The poor girl didn’t know exactly why I put on Converse—and only I knew the real reason why I didn’t want to wear 5-inch-heels.
“Well, I better get out there before it starts without me!” She joked. I thanked her and she ran out. I sat down, thinking I was alone, but then two figures appeared in the doorway.
“Hey Lilly!” Joe squealed.
I looked up. “Hi Joseph.”
“Why so down?” Kevin asked.
“Down? What are you talking about?” I asked, smiling.
They both shrugged. “You look amazing, by the way,” Kevin added.
“Thanks, Kev. You don’t look half bad yourself,” I teased.
“We just came by to wish you luck!” Joe replied excitedly.
“Did somebody have too many Red Bulls today?”
Kevin pushed him out of the room. “He’s been bouncing off the ceiling the entire day, you have NO idea.”
I laughed. “Thanks guys.”
They left and I looked at the clock. 5 more minutes.
I took a deep breath. Am I really going to do this?
Yes, I have to. Matt’s the one I love.
I peeked out from the room, looking around for Matt. I spotted him and he looked great. I made sure not to show my dress (because that’s what you do on wedding days; the bride isn’t seen until the actual ceremony except by certain people) as I went back into the little room I was cooped up in.
Once everyone was sitting and the music started playing, I picked up my bouquet and took another deep breath. I walked out of the little room and looked at Matt at the end of the aisle. But then my eyes darted around until I spotted Nick.
He looked amazing. And he looked pretty doubtful and upset.
Then I saw Bob and Lisa Nelson (Matt’s boss and his boss’s wife) sitting near the front, smiling widely. They thought that what Matt lied to them about was the real story. It wasn’t. And that just made the situation worse at the moment.
I felt my breath catch in my throat. I never did break mine and Nick’s promise when we were teenagers. So why am I doing it now?
So I ran. I dropped the bouquet in the middle of the aisle and turned around, running out of the chapel, pushing people out of my way. I sprinted back to the beach behind Miley’s house and sat down on the sand, holding my knees (thankfully the dress was long enough to cover my feet while still doing that). I let myself cry.
Why did I run out of my own wedding?
Because forever and always means something, and it always has and always will.
I’m not giving up on it.

Alrighty, here are the FINAL two chapters:
Chapter 12:
No Words to Explain My Feelings
NICK’S POV
LILLY JUST RAN OUT OF HER WEDDING.
BREATHE. BREATHE. IN. OUT. IN. OUT.
OH. MY. GOD.
My brothers whack me on the arm to go after her. I don’t go, and then they just push me into the aisle. I scramble to my feet and run after Lilly.
I stop to look back and see Matt standing at the end of the aisle, fuming, and Miley standing there nervously, trying to get people to calm down.
I ran out the doors of the chapel, and on my way, ponder where she could be. She could’ve gone home—no she wouldn’t have because Matt would be there soon. She could’ve gone to Miley’s—but then she would get bombarded by questions and all that junk when we all got back. I thought of one more possibility, and prayed she was there.
I sprinted to the beach.
When I got there, I found her sitting on the sand—I mean, it wasn’t hard or anything, she sticks out like a sore thumb with a wedding dress on, duh. I decided not to go talk to her because she probably just needs time to think about things alone. So with that, I went back to Miley’s house.
My brothers, Miley, Jake, and Oliver were already back. I ran in and Miley was really worried. “WHERE IS SHE?! IS SHE OKAY?!”
I put my hands on her shoulders to calm her down. “Don’t worry, she’s fine. She’s at the beach.”
“Did you say anything to her?!”
“No, I let her be. She needs time alone.”
Miley sighed in relief and went back to Jake, who was rocking the baby—Lillian—gently. Before my brothers could say anything to me, I went downstairs into my room. I took out my guitar and strummed it lightly, trying to think of words to explain how I felt.
But there really were no words to explain my feelings. My mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, emotions, exclamations, music, and just a huge, jumbled, mixed-up mess.
Shouldn’t I be happy Lilly didn’t marry Matt?
Chapter 13:
Love Me or Leave Me
LILLY’S POV
I picked myself up from the sand, not caring about my appearance anymore. I don’t even know what twisted fairytale I was living in that made me believe I was happy.
Some fairytale.
I walked home slowly, getting strange glances from people. What, you’ve never seen a wedding dress before? F*** off for crying out loud.
I opened the front door of my house and was attacked with words. “HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME LILLY?!” Matt screamed in my face, holding me by my upper arms.
“I’m sorry,” I squeaked.
“SORRY?! SORRY DOESN’T PAY THE BILLS, HONEY! I NEEDED THAT PROMOTION!”
“So our entire relationship—this wedding—was just to get a stupid, lousy promotion?! What am I, a grain of sand that you just decided to pick up and now you’re going to crush it?!” I screamed back. I gulped after what I said about being a ‘grain of sand’, recalling my conversation with Nick a few days before.
“Basically, yes!”
“WHAT?! UGH I HATE YOU! WE’RE THROUGH!” I screeched.
I didn’t have anything else to say to him, so I sprinted up the stairs and changed. I collected all my things (including the dress) and stormed out of the house, leaving him alone.
I lugged my suitcases and anything else I was carrying over to Miley’s house. I rang the doorbell and realized my face was still stained with tears, but I didn’t care.
Miley opened it and hugged me immediately. She helped me bring my stuff inside and then I sat down on the couch with a loud sigh. “Is there anything you need, Lils? Anything at all?” Miley begged.
“No, Miley, letting me stay here with you is enough, thank you though,” I replied, trying to smile.
Kevin, Joe, Oliver and Jake came over and talked to me about things other than the wedding—which I was thankful for. I didn’t see Nick anywhere though. Then I zoned out of whatever the four guys were trying to tell me, and heard music. I stood up, leaving the boys baffled, and then walked over to the basement door, pressing my ear up against it, trying to listen.
“I know I can be cruel
I say a lot of things I don't mean
And I'm not always in the mood
To give you what you need
But I come close you gotta
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
I know I act confused
I'm perfect just like you
Do what you want
But there's no one in this world
Who would die for you
There's only me
You gotta
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
You won't ever find
Anyone around as good as me
There's only one choice
You don't wanna grow old all alone
You gotta
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
Love me, love me, love me or leave me
Love me, love me, love me or leave me,” was what I heard. I opened the door slowly and quietly and tiptoed down the stairs. I saw Nick sitting on his bed, hunched over his guitar.
I tiptoed closer, and pounced on him. He fell backwards and flipped over so he was on top of me. He laughed and I smiled when he opened his eyes and looked right at me.
We sat there for a few seconds, staring at each other, until he did the unthinkable.
Well, I wouldn’t call it ‘unthinkable’…maybe predictable is a better word. Because, well, didn’t you predict it?
His lips crashed into mine. When he pulled away, he rolled off of me onto his bed and I rested on my right side, facing him.
“Moved on so quickly, have we?” He teased, twirling a loose strand of my hair around his finger.
I grinned. “I wouldn’t say moved on…I’d just say kept a promise,” I winked.
“Forever and always?” He asked hopefully.
“Forever and always,” I confirmed.
I molded my fingers into the ‘I love you sign’ in front of his face. He did the same to me.
We both sat up and he pulled me into a warm hug. “I love you,” he whispered, sending chills down my spine.
“I love you too,” I whispered.
---
…and we lived happily ever after. No questions asked. My lips are sealed. Well, you know what I mean.
THE END. ♥
