"Its like I waited my whole life, for this one night, its gona be me you and the dance floor, cuz we only got one night, double your pleasure, double you fun, and dance forever ever ever, forever ever ever." Kyle sings to me with love and courage in his voice. I watched him try to win me over on my door step. I stand in the doorway, my right arm holding open the door.
It was dark outside, the air dry and warm. I cracked a smile, not helping the mood. I knew why he was here, and tears streamed my face. He was here for one last chance before he had to go into hiding. He explained to me a couple of days earlier that there was a group of men, fitting in with the street travelers, that were tracking him and his little sister, Lacy, down. They had to run.
Kyle stopped singing. Tears were also streaming down his face. "Kenzie, I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. I wish we could have been more, but now my time has come, and I have to run. If I could take you with us, I would. But if I did, you would be dead in a second. Be happy I'm gone. I'm not a threat to you anymore. I'm sorry," He took a step forward, and with one movement, he hugged me tightly. I pushed him off, and he looked startled.
Truth is, I had major feelings for Kyle. But I knew it would be weird if we were a couple. We were best friends, and it would ruin our friendship. If only I knew what was coming sooner.
He stepped back, and started to turn. "Kyle, wait," I said, not wanting him to leave yet. So yeah, we were only 13, but so what? I thought to myself as I leaned in to kiss him on the lips. He was more surprised than when I pushed him away, but he soon relaxed. Kissing Kyle was like fireworks exploding. I could hear them. They were all around us.
Kyle pulled away, and tightly hugged me again. He was a couple of inches taller than me, maybe four or five inches. He whispered in my hair, "I'm sorry Kenzie. I'll miss you."
He hugged me tighter, then letting go. He leaned down and pecked me on the lips. Then he turned and ran down the sidewalk, towards his 10 year old sister, who was waiting at the corner of the street, sitting by tall bushes, hugging her knees to her chest. He got his sister, helped her up, and turned his head one last time to smile at me.

Present day

I walked down the hall, chatting anxiously with Demi. "Oh my gosh, Demi. Curtis Loyd? He is so hot!"
"Oh, I know! I can't believe he asked me out. I wonder what happened to Leslie Chay?" Demi said, looking around as if looking for someone. Probably Curtis.
Leslie Chay was the most beautiful girl you will ever meet. She has long golden brown hair, glacier blue eyes, and perfect features. Everyone wants to be her. Except me and Demi, of course. All the guys want to be with her. It disgusts me. But then, last week, she disappeared. Rumor has it that her family moved to Los Angeles. I wouldn't be surprised if that was true, because her family is very rich.
Demi is also very pretty. Her eyes are big and hazel, and her hair is a fabulous shade of black, so black it is almost blue.
Me on the other hand, I don't find so beautiful. My hair is short and brown. My eyes are navy blue, but my features aren't as good as Leslie's.
"I heard that she moved to Los Angeles," I suggested.
"Really? That is no news flash."
"Not surprising at all."
I reached my locker. I opened it, and found all my school supplies. It was the last day of school, and the staff required us to empty out our lockers at the end of the day. Thankfully, Demi's locker was next to mine, so we could keep talking.
"So are you excited that school is finally over?" I asked Demi.
She grabbed a book and stuffed it into her backpack. "Girl, do you really have to ask that? We are about to go to college. I cannot believe it!" Demi said, stuffing another book into her backpack.
I rummaged around some more, finding 2 love notes from Eric Berkel.
"Will Berkel ever leave me alone? He knows I don't like him at all. He needs to find a math loving girlfriend and leave me alone," I said to Demi, ripping up the love notes and throwing them into a near by trash can.
"Seriously. You are way too good for him Kenzie. Speaking of which, you are going to find a cutie during college, right? When you do, I want to meet him," Demi said, taking out random peices of paper that never made it home.
"Just to steal him? Just kidding. Of course, I will try to find someone. I want to be taken by the end of college," I explained. I slammed my locker shut, swung my backpack over my shoulder, and said goodbye to Demi.

I got out of my car when I reached our house. I walked to the mailbox and grabbed everything that was inside. This was a daily thing, grabbing the mail and throwing the junk on the table and keeping the interesting stuff for myself.
I sorted through the pile of mail, putting junk under the stack as I walked towards the house. I found one of my magazines, put that under my arm, and kept sorting. I came across a letter with mty name on it as I walked through the door. I threw the junk mail on the coffee table, and took my magazine and letter upstairs to my room.
I slung my backpack over the chair by my desk. I flopped down on my bed, and carefully ripped the lip of the letter open. I pulled it out, unfolded it, and read what it had to say:

Kenzie,
I knew you thought we were dead. You were right...in a way. We acted dead so the news could put it up. Ben, our father, helped us with that. Denzel Boyd, the stalker, thought we were dead, too. He gave up on trying to find us. We have been finding our way back for a while. We are home. I still haven't forgotten about you. And hopefully you haven't forgotten about us, either. So, if you haven't forgotten, you will know who this is and I won't have to sign.
I still love you.
7832 Bernen Avenue Dr.

Kyle. This was my first thought when I read the last four real words. I still love you. My heart jittered, and I remember that time, almost 5 years ago, when he and his little sister had to run.
I remember seeing that in the news. Kyle and Lacy Martin, dead after starving themselves for three days in the wilderness in Ohio. A hiker found them, laying there with there skin rotting away. Ben, I thought. Ben was the hiker. He helped with the act. He knew what was going on.
This was 4 months ago, and I was devastated. I really thought they were dead. But now, knowing they were alive and not dead was overwhelming.
I set the letter down on my night stand, and wrote the address that was mentioned in the letter on my hand.
I ran down the stairs, catching the eye of my mom as I did.
"What's the rush, Kenzie?" My mom asked, getting up from the couch. I put my hands behind my back to hide the address.
"I'm just going over to Demi's house to hang. I should be back in a few hours," I said, walking slowly toward the front door. Then the memories started coming back as I walked through that door. Standing there, looking at Kyle one last time. Kissing him for the first, and last, time. Seeing the pain on his face as he walked, hand in hand, with his little sister down this very road. I closed my eyes and started to walk down the street, going to the address I'm so very familiar with.

I slowed to a walk when I reached the house that matched the address. My heart was racing when I thought of what was coming.
Kyle's house. Lacy, Ben, Laura. I closed my eyes and wracked my brain for an image of their faces, and slowly, one by one, they popped into my head. First I saw Kyle's face. It was squarish, with his light brown hair barely reaching his penetrating blue eyes. I saw his sweet smile, teeth glowing. Then I saw his little sister, Lacy. Her heart shaped face was framed with pretty blonde hair, her big blue eyes innocent. She was small for a ten year old. But now I knew that they were both five years older, and probably looked different than what I saw in my head. But still, they were the same people I was dying to see.
I opened my eyes, and walked slowly up the path to their front door. My fingers hovered above the doorbell, observating the look of the bell. I didn't ring it, because I knew it probably wouldn't work. I looked around for a place to sit. This news was all too overwhelming, and I wanted to shake off the fact of being here again for the first time in five years before presenting myself to them again. But all I could see was grass, and I knew that if I sit down, I probably wouldn't want to stand back up. Instead, I stood in front of the door, about to force my hand to knock.
I put on my best smile, then knocked with gentle force. I stood back and looked around waiting for someone to answer the door. After about ten seconds the door started to open. I stood up straight, wanting to present myself to my long lost love. But the person who answered the door wasn't Kyle. Or anyone of the Martin's. It was a man, tall and bulky in size. My smile disappeared, and an evil smile splattered his face.
I stepped back, eyes wide. But his arms cought me before I could run. He has an iron grip around my wrists, and pulled me inside with one quick movement. He shut the front door with his foot.
I fidgeted and tried to pull free, but with every attempt he would squeezed his hands harder around my wrists. I gave up after my hands were purple.
"Who are you?" I demanded. But his response was sqeezing my wrists harder. I knew that if he squeezed any harder, my arms would break.
"Who are you? I demand you to tell me," I demanded, putting as much hate as I could into my voice.
He didn't squeeze harder, instead, he led me from the front door, through familiar halls, and to the basement door. We paused there for a brief second.
"You thought that your stupid Kyle sent that letter. I knew it would lure you. That Kyle and his family have been trying to run away from me for five years, and I finally caught him," The man said. Then I knew who he was. Denzel Boyd, the stalker following Kyle and Lacy.
"How did you find me? How did you find Kyle?" I asked, tears about to overflow my eyes.
"That is nothing to worry about, little girl. All you need to worry about is your own life," He said, thrusting open the door to the basement.
The basement was not dark yet, but I knew once the sun was under the horizon, the basement would be pitch black. He pushed me down the concrete with much force. I reached the bottom of the stairs, my head hitting the concrete with a plunk. Pain shot through my right arm, and immediatly I knew it was probably broken. I heard the basment door slam above me, and the door locking with much force.
The last thing I remember was a deep familiar voice. It was a voice I vaguely remembered, and I tried to smile at the voice. But I was already unconcious by the time I found my mouth muscles.

♥♥♥

When I came around I was propped up in someone's lap. I opened my eyes, and the face above me was beautiful. It was quite familiar.
"Kyle?" I managed to squeek. I tried to lift up my arm to touch his face but pain seered through my arm. I closed my eyes, trying to block the pain.
"I'm back, Kenzie. I'm here," Kyle's voice was deeper than I remembered. He lifted me up, and sat me against his chest. I could hear his heart beat, and it was soothing. I lifted my head up, and I looked around. The room was empty and eerie.
"Where is Lacy? And Ben? And Laura?" I asked. I looked at his face. Pain struck it.
"We were hiding under an overpass that night. I woke up the next morning and I was here. I have no idea where they are," He said, tears starting to stream his face.
"I kept banging on the door, asking him where they were. I knew he wouldn't answer, but I kept trying. I almost broke the door down with the force I put into banging the door..." And his voice trailed off.
"Do you know how he found me?" I asked, the tears streaming down my face.
"He called me a foolish sleep talker when I woke up one morning. He told me I said much about you, and he researched you. He has many resources into finding people. And then you came."
"When did you come?" I asked.
"I came about three days before you did. I sleep talked last night," He said. "I regret it, too. Because I knew I sleep talked a lot, and I can't control it. I didn't know I would get into such a big mess as this."
I sat up, and I inched my way towards the door. My arm hurt like nothing before, but I tried to ignore it.
"I wouldn't do that. The door won't budge," Kyle said, voice in a warning tone.
I sat down on the stairs, and put a sly smile on my face. I reached into my pocket with my good arm, and pulled out my pink Razr. I swear I saw his face light up the room. He raced to my side, and sat down on the stairs next to me. For the first time I saw his actual size. He was quite a bit taller than my five foot six. He was probably six foot four inches, at the least.
"Kenzie, do not call nine-one-one. That will not do any good. If you don't mind, I am going to try to call Lacy's cell," He said with the hugest smile I have ever seen on a human face. He grabbed my phone and punched in the number.
"Lacy, it's Kyle...Yes. He found Kenzie....I know, I know. Blue monkey over the short mountain. Got it," He said, snapping the phone shut after the last word.
He must have seen the confused look on my face, because he leaned in to whisper, "Code."
He stood up, and took my good hand. He led me to a hole in the wall. It showed the yard, but it was only a few inches high. Kyle let go of my hand and went to grab 2 giant silver spoons out of a small box.
"Well, I thought if we were ever going to make it out of here we might as well start digging," And he handed me one of the giant spoons.
