Prolouge

I'm walking. Walking as fast as I can down a windowless hallway. It seems endless and it stretched out forever in front of me.

Right when I thought I was gonna go mad in all the blackness and the fog, I reached a door.

Desperate for signs of life, I grabbed the doorknob and twisted. The door opened easily and I hurried through.

The room here was brighter and vividly lit. No more fog lined the walls and floors, it looked like the inside of a warehouse.

I walked in, weaving my way among boxes and barrels galore. I then opened a steel door off to the side.

Kevin Jonas smiled at me out of it. A pretty blonde girl came out behind him smiling too. Kevin wrapped a hand around her waist and kissed her.

Then, I fell. Falling faster and faster through the deep void of blackness. I tried desperately to grab onto something, anything.

But as I fell, the only thing I could see was Kevin and that girl. They were smiling and waving at me as I tumbled into deep nothingness.

Then a paper fluttered down before me. Grabbing it, I stared at the words written in Kevin's handwriting.

You're just a friend.

I woke up in a cold sweat, clammy and shaking. When realizing it was just a dream, I relaxed a bit.

But right then, I didn't realize how real it was going to be soon. It also didn't help with the fact that with my newly dyed hair, I've been having these dreams every night.

I looked at my clock. It was 3 in the morning. Great. Just what I need, bags under my eyes.

Erin was still asleep and oblivious to my recent night time wandering. I sunk under the covers again.

It was all so real.....

You wanna know what sucks? Being in love with someone who has absoloutely NO romantic feelings towards you.

That sucks. It sucks eggs. Not to mention, that my OTHER best friend Ryan, moved to Scotland with his family.

Now he's gone and I'm stuck with Travis, who is still mad from his swollen lip that I gave him last month.

It's not my fault that he black mailed me. And he can't make out with Veronica Milano? Sorry, but do I really give a care?

I slid out of bed, checking my new dye job. It was back to it's old blonde self. Except Veronica had talked me into getting one pink streak down the side of my hair.

And it does look kinda cool. I started rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. Not that there was much.

I haven't slept for weeks. That blonde girl is always there to surprise me whenever I close my eyelids.

I knocked on Travis's door and waited.

"What do you want this early?" Travis groaned opening the door. His hair was a mess and his eyeliner was smeared.

Yeah, I have a friend that wears eyeliner. In fact, he even BORROWS some from me whenever he can't find his. Weird.

"Jeez, good morning to you too," I said. Travis rolled his eyes.

"Didn't get any sleep last night did you?" he asked. I shook my head.

"Not that much. Nightmares," I said. Travis than told me to leave so he could go back to sleep, so I went and got changed.

I put on my black skinny jeans and Panic At The Disco shirt. Combing my hair, I walked out the door to meet my friend at his house.

"Hey Lynnie Bear," Kevin Jonas said to me. I smiled at him as he let me in.

"Hi Kevo," I said. He led me into the living room where his two other brothers waved at me.

They were acustomed to me coming over every morning. Because me and Kevin are tight.

Not as tight as I want to be, like together tight. But it's close enough.

"Lynnie, c'mere I need to show you something," Kevin said. I followed him up the stairs while Nick called after me,

"Nice to see your hair back Lyn!"

Kevin opened the door to his room and pushed me in. Looking around, it looked the same as always.

"What is it?" I asked. Kevin ran to the front of the room like a kid running downstairs at christmas morning.

"Ta da!' Kevin cried. I saw what it was. It was a Wii. I smiled at him as he just stared admiringly at the thing.

"Kevin, you are so simple minded." I said shaking my head smiling. Kevin smiled at me.

"And proud of it too," he said. When I just laughed, he asked, "Wanna play?"

I shook my head.

"No, can't, gotta go to work."

I hugged him good bye and hurried to The National Inquirer. My new job.

So, I got a job awhile ago. And let's just say, it pays a TONS better than my last job. And I get a cubicle.

Right next to a hot guy. I'm not joking either. Jake Lewis is VERY easy on the eyes. He's right next to me in the office.

Even though, I highly doubted I would think these kinds of feelings to anyone but, Kevin Jonas, AKA my BFF.

But, I did. And this time, I actually had a chance with Jake. And he doesn't haunt my dreams with his trophy girlfriend either.

Nor do I think he has one. All the better for me.

"Hey Lynetta," Jake said as I walked into my cubicle.

"Hey Jake," I said. Jake smiled at me and went back to working on his article. A guy that can write.

How much better can he be? Oh yeah, he could be Kevin Jonas. Yeah, that could help.

So I typed up the article I was assigned to. The Stock Market. Not the world's best attention holder, but it pays the bills.

A few ENDLESS hours later where me and Jake just played Minesweeper for like two hours, I finally got to go home.

I was walking to my dorm when I ran into Logan Trace. Logan hates me. No clue why. Well, I have a hunch.

She likes Travis. That's all there is to it. Well, she's fighting a losing battle. Travis is like ATTATcHED to Veronica by the hip.

I swear, the day the break up is the day I go out with Kevin Jonas. And there's no distinct possibilty for that to happen.

"Hi Logan," I said taking a stab at friendly conversation. She blightly ignored me and stalked away.

I caught sight of Travis off in the distance and knew why. The girl was mean and she had the hots for my best friend.

Go figure. Travis obviously doesn't like her. That much anyway.

I walked into the building and checked my messages.

So it's been pretty boring here none the less. I've been doing nothing since the whole Kevin incident at the beach.

That is so far back now. You remember right? Where I confessed my undying love to him and he pretty much sent me packing?

Yeah, that day. Erin looked over at me writing in my blog and sighed exasperatedly at my sour expression.

"What's eating you today?" she asked. I slammed on the enter key in an agravated way.

"The fact that I love him and he thinks were just BFFs," I said saying the last part in a preppy voice.

Erin shrugged and played around with the clown statue on her bedside table.

"Well, I can't tell you to tell him because well..."

Because I already did. And he said no thanks. That just made me more irked and I slapped down my laptop.

Peeling on my shoes, I took off down the hallway. I was planning on catching up to my friend Serenity down the hall.

Serenity was Travis and Dani's other cousin. Or according to how Travis put it, it was there cousin Maggie's older sister.

Serenity seemed surprised to find me stomping my way loudly down the hall with my arms crossed and in a fowl mood.

"Man Lyn, what's up?" she asked. I looked at her. She was standing in front of Travis's door.

"I can tell you what's going down," I said. Serenity shot me a sympathetic look and then knocked on the door.

I couldn't get down the hall fast enough, because Travis stuck his head out of the door and shouted after me,

"Hey Lynnie Bear where ya goin?"

I sucked in my cheeks and kept walking. After Travis heard that name, he's been making fun of it every chance he could.

I just walked down the stairs and went to the university garden. Sitting on a bench, I pulled my knees to my chest watching a few groups go by.

Allison Rogers walked by with Logan. Logan purposely kicked a clod of dirt my way and shot me a snear.

Allison nudged her friend and looked apologetic at me. She had similar hair to mine even though it was in a different style.

Blonde with a pink streak.

"I'll catch up to you in a minute Logan," Allison told Logan. Logan stalked away as Allison joined me on the bench.

"Why does she hate me so much?" I asked her. Allison shrugged and looked after her friend's retreating back.

"Because she thinks you like Travis Garrett," she said. I choked on my own spit.

"Travis?! Travis GARRETT? The drummer?" I cried. Allison looked sheepish and glanced shyly away.

"What? He IS hot."

Oh my GOD. I swear Allison must have laughed so hard from the expression on my face.

"He is!" she cried as I gagged. Right as this was happening, Jake Lewis of all people came running up.

He was sweating and out of breath.

"Ly-Lyn.....someone's disappeared. They've been kidnapped."

I lept up as Allison stared with wide eyes.

"Who? Who?" I cried.

"She goes to this school. Mandy Parker."

Jake had grabbed my hand and half pulled half dragged me to his car.

"Jake! Jake where the heck are we going?" I cried as he threw open the door for me. I hopped into his car and he sat down in the driver's seat.

"Why do you think I'm here? Kathy wants you to cover this story," Jake said kicking the car into gear.

"ME?! Why me?!" I shouted. Jake sighed and said,

"Lynetta, you can't spend all of your working life playing Minesweeper."

I felt myself flush as we drove to a place where there were a bunch of police cars parked out front.

I got out of the car, carrying my camera with me. Hurrying to the front of the apartment building, I saw another girl that went to my school.

Bailey stood looking flustered as a bunch of cops questioned her. I tried to fight my way through the crowd.

"Lynetta?" Bailey called. I had managed to shove my way next to her.

"What happened?" I asked.

"M-Mandy's gone. She was taken. Just now," she stuttered.

"What happened?" I asked again.

"A man broke into our apartment, knocked me out and went after Mandy. I just woke up."

I figured because Mandy's parents were ambassadors in Spain it kinda figured they'd go after their kid.

I pushed my way out of the group of cops again and started to walk back through the parking lot to where Jake was parked.

I then heard a muffled scream. I turned and saw Mandy of all people being wrestled into a trunk.

She was gagged and tied.

"Mandy," I whispered. The men that were crowding her were all tall and burly, wearing masks.

I ran to catch up to the van. I stopped short when they finally managed to shove Mandy into the van. She was still squirming and screaming.

They were about to close the trunk when Mandy's foot kicked out and caught the man that was stealing her right in the gut.

He winced but slammed the trunk shut. Then they pulled away.

"No! Mandy!" I cried running ahead trying to catch the van. It didn't even occur to me at that time to take a license plate number.

I stared after the van as it teared down the street, brakes squealing. I then caught sight of something brown.

I bent and picked it up. A wallet. It was the guy's that got kicked. He had dropped his wallet.

I tucked it away. I knew I couldn't go to the cops. Genius me thought I could handle it myself.

I am such a moron. I had just found a big clue in a kidnapping and I didn't even show the police.

Nor did I know that it might cost me my life.

I took the steps two at a time up to Kevin's place. I wasn't planning on telling him anything about the wallet.

Jake pulled out of the drive right after he had dropped me off. I hammered on Kevin's door.

I just wanted to hug him. I was pretty much traumatized. A girl that I knew, (very well too) had been kidnapped.

And I was the only person that could find her. No pressure much. Kevin threw open the door.

His hair was wet and it looked like he had just gotten out of the shower.

"Lynnie? What are you doing here?" he asked. I just shrugged and he let me in. He put his arm around me.

He must have sensed a sad air around me. God, if he could I must be glowing.

"What's wrong? You seem PO'd," he asked. I just tightened my grip on him. I didn't want to let go of him.

I just wanted to breathe in all of his Kevinly smell. Never let go and never have to think about Mandy or the guys that had kidnapped her.

Kevin smelled extra nice today. Like Dial soap and Tide detergent. I must have spent like ten minutes with my nose pressed up against his shirt collar.

"Okay, Lyn you must be upset because you're smelling me," he said. I jerked my nose away but I didn't let go of him.

"I just have a lot on my mind," I said pensively. Kevin wrapped his other arm around my neck and squeazed me tighter too.

I swear I was floating inbetween heaven and the real world where there was a phsyco running around with my friend when he did this.

"Tell me," he said. I shook my head derisively.

"No really Kevin. I don't wanna discuss it," I said. Kevin let go of me (to my displeasure) and pulled me upstairs.

"Then let's play Wii. That'll take your mind off it."

He was right. It took my mind right off of Mandy. For an hour until I got that same feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Kevin noticed this and put down his controller.

"Maybe we should take a break?" he suggested. I nodded in a queasy way. My head felt like it weighed a million pounds.

I sank down on Kevin's bed. It set my brain at ease as I inhaled the sent on his bed. It was stronger than how he smelt.

I guess I must have dozed off because before I knew it, I was walking down that hallway again.

The fog was the same and I came into the same warehouse. I opened the same door and saw Kevin and the blonde smiling at me.

I was prepared this time to fall. And fall I did, but that didn't stop that sickly feeling in my stomach as I plummeted down.

I whacked that piece of paper away and opened my mouth and let out a scream.

"LYN! Lyn! Wake up!"

I woke up to Kevin shaking me frantically. I was still on Kevin's bed. I was sweating and shaking.

"Lynetta! Lynnie! It's okay. I'm here," I heard Kevin's voice say. It still sounded so far away. Like it was a few oceans away.

"Kevin.......not her. Why......" I muttered. I wasn't even thinking. I was still in dream mode.

It took a few more shakes from Kevin until I came to. I opened my heavy eyes. They were burning and on fire.

"Kevin.....what happened? What's wrong?" I asked. Kevin's expression was terrified and confused.

"You screamed. And started saying, 'Mandy, Kevin why?'," he said. His face relaxed a bit.

Mine didn't. Oh my GOD. How EMBARASSING. He would know I still like him. What else did I say to him when my brain was on freeze frame?

Kevin than wrapped me into a hug, and I fell limber again. Mandy.....Kevin....why?

I didn't know what to do. Erin had left our dorm for the evening and I just sat on the bed staring at the wallet.

I hadn't even opened the thing yet. I took a deep breath and peeled it gently open. A credit card, a drivers license and a paper.

I looked at the license first. Bob Jilo. Age 45. I shivered at the picture of the guy. A true blue blooded creep.

The paper had an address on it. I studied it and figured it was only a city away. What was it?

I then shoved the wallet into my old converse under my bed. It was creepy that I held the missing link to a mystery.

It was mind boggling. And it was also too much pressure. I had spent the rest of my time at Kevin's house worrying about what I might have said when my brain was off.

Travis came in without knocking (as was his custom) and sat on the foot of my bed.

"Any luck with the Mandy thing?" he asked. The feeling in my stomach came back and I looked hastily away.

"No. They don't know yet," I said. Travis sighed and didn't say anything. We were plunged into silence.

I knew I had to say something before he did or he wouldn't go away. It was a thing with Travis.

"How's your sister?" I asked. Travis shrugged.

"I don't know. I haven't talked to her in awhile."

My jaw dropped. He had left a 15 year old depressed emo girl alone in a hotel?! Is he CRAZY?!

"ARE YOU INSANE?!" I cried. He looked taken aback at my sudden abrupt care for his physco sister.

"Don't get your panties in a knot. Dani's fine," Travis said defensively. I looked at him with my eyebrows raised.

"Dude, she's depressed AND she lives alone AND she lives AROSS THE USA," I said.

He shrugged. Than he went away.

"Hey Jake."

It was the next morning and I was pulling up my chair to Jake's cubicle.

"Hey Lynetta. Write anything for the Mandy Parker case yet?" he asked me, not looking up from his email.

I sighed and said,

"Listen Jake, does your uncle still work at the police station?"

Jake looked away from the screen with a bemused expression on his face.

"Yeeeeah. Whhy?" he asked slowly. I looked up at him with an innocent look.

"Wanna take a field trip?"

"YOU WANNA WHAT?!" Jake shouted. We were driving downtown to the police station in Jake's BMW.

"It's relevant to the Mandy Parker case!" I cried defensively. Jake shot me a look of aggravation.

"You wanna break into the police's files? For that? Lynetta do you WANT to get arrested?!" he cried.

I pulled my knees to my chest and looked over the dashboard. The leather was making my butt sweat right through my jeans.

"Listen, Jake," I said. And before I knew it, I spilled everything about the wallet to him. Jake listened with a look of pure shock on his face.

Jake was a great listener. He groaned in the right places and he cursed whenever appropriate.

We pulled up to the station right after I finished my story. Jake was still shaking his head in shock.

"Even though I still think you should have gone to the cops, I just want you to know that I'm with you Lyn," he told me as we walked up to the door.

I looked at him. I was getting all dewy eyed, it was seriously the nicest thing someone's ever said to me.

"Aw! Jake!" I cried. He rolled his eyes but I saw him smile as he took my hand and let me into the station.

"Jakester!" a chubby officer called from behind the desk. "Here to see Ernie?"

"Yes please Paul. I need to introduce him to someone," Jake said smoothly. He was still holding onto my hand.

Paul disappeared and came back a minute later with another fat guy that had dark hair and a curly mustache.

"Jakey!" Uncle Ernie cried coming over and enveloping Jake into a bone crunching hug. Jake awkwardly patted Uncle Ernie on the back.

"Step into me office," Ernie said. Jake took my hand again and led me after Ernie.

"Follow my lead," Jake whispered out of the corner of his mouth. I squeazed his hand as an okay.

"So what brings you and your purdy girly here?" Ernie asked. I felt myself color slightly as Jake said,

"This is Mary. She's my girlfriend. She wanted to see the office," he said. I felt myself blush deeper than ever as Jake tightened his grip on my hand.

Ernie, whose southern accent got thicker as he started to smile slyly said,

"Nice ter meet yer Maury." I smiled past my flaming cheeks and shook his big beefy hand.

"You too Mr. Ernie, sir," I said in a whisper. We then stood in awkward silence. Jake fully looked comfortable unlike me and Ernie.

"Uhh, Uncle Ernie....can me and Ly-Mary have some privacy?" he asked. Me and Ernie both turned red.

"Oh! Me boy yer too old fer dis!" he said cheerfully. He winked at me and then retreated from the room, shutting the door behind him.

"Nice," I said appreciatively as Jake let go of my hand.

"Thank you. Watch the master Mary," he said. I smirked as Jake settled into Ernie's big chair.

"Let's get cracking shall we?" he asked as he booted up the computer.

It felt good. It made me feel a lot better to know that somebody else was in on it too and I wasn't all alone.

"We good?" I asked a few minutes later. Jake was sitting at Ernie's desk biting his lip.

"Uhhh, no," Jake said. I got a bit worried than.

"Why?!" I cried. Jake pointed at the computer screen.

"It has a password," he said. Right when I was about to start freaking out, Jake said,

"Don't worry! Uncle Ernie isn't a smart person. It can't be THAT hard."

I sat down in the same chair as him even though there was room for like 6 in that chair. Ernie must have a REALLY big butt.

After a few minutes of Jake pausing and typing, he finally cried,

"Bingo! We're in!"

"What was it?" I cried. I was so close to Jake I could smell him just as good as I smelled Kevin the other day.

Only he didn't smell as nice as Kevin did.

"Cheesecake," Jake said. When I looked at him questioningly, he just shrugged.

"Now, who are we looking for?" he asked.

"Bob Jilo," I said. Jake typed for a second until he said.

"Ah! Found him. Jeez, what a creep," he said. I nodded.

"Totally. Now print before we get caught," I said. Jake barely had a second to grab the papers before we heard the jingling of Ernie's keys.

"Oh god!" Jake cried, and then with quick thinking, he grabbed me, turned me over and started to lean in.

I swear, I thought he was gonna kiss me, and that was met with mixed emotions as I remembered the Ryan incident and what happened with Kevin.

Only he didn't. At least not on the lips. Right near them so it looked like we were making out to his Uncle Ernie.

"Hey kids! I thinkin Maury should ger home Jakey," Ernie said. He was eyeing us as Jake let go of me.

I didn't really want to wipe Jake's spit off my cheek (even though there wasn't much there) because, well.....Jake was hot.

"Okay. See you later Uncle Ernie," he said and he grabbed my hand and rushed me out of there.

"That was close," Jake was saying as we piled into his car. "Sorry about the whole kissing thing. We had to be doing something."

I shrugged and for added effect, wiped my cheek off. Jake rolled his eyes as we pulled up at my dorm.

He handed me the papers. I took them gratefully and folded them and stuck them along with the wallet in my bag.

"Thanks again Jake. For doing this for me," I said. Jake smiled and said,

"Watch out Baker. I'm not gonna bail you out of jail too. Ernie might," he said as he backed up.

"He liked Maury."

I spent all night pouring over the papers. I must have fallen asleep again because I was walking down the hall.

It was the same scenario so it wasn't that surprising that I woke up shaking again. Erin was sound asleep in her bed.

I looked down at Bob Jilo's profile papers. The dude had some track record with the police.

Married 6 times, divoriced all of those times. Been arrested twice for robbing a Quikmart.

I couldn't say it was all that surprising. Just looking at the dude you pretty much figured he had SOME kind of jail time.

He hadn't graduated either. Dropped out of high school. Now what's that Gerard Way is always saying?

Oh yeah, 'If you don't go to high school, you'll most likely go to jail'. How's that for twisted irony?

I stuck the papers into my old converse along with the wallet and changed into my p.js. I brushed my teeth and crashed onto the bed.

I felt really bad. Bad as in bad to the bone kind of way. I had just broken into confidential files with my co-worker.

It was all sort of thrilling. I was an urban rebel. Without the urban part. I wasn't a teenager anymore.

I was 20. Travis was 22 and Kevin was 20. I sank deeper into my pillow, afraid to close my eyes and have to meet that girl again for the trillionth time.

I did meet her again. And I woke up with her face plastered in my minds eye. It was 12 o' clock on Saturday morning, and I went to the Jonas's.

I wore my baggy trip pants and a Avenged Sevenfold shirt. I felt a bit queazy. That blonde girl coupled with Bob Jilo wasn't a good combination.

I was probably the last out my dorm. I caught a taxi to the Jonas's and knocked lightly on the door.

"Hey Lyn," Nick greeted me as he pulled open the door. He was skinny and pale. He had shadows under his eyes, but he at least seemed a bit happy.

"Hey Nick," I said as he let me in. "Where's Kev?" Nick's face faultered for a fraction of a second before he said,

"He's upstairs with a friend. Hang on-KEVIN! LYN'S HERE!" he called up the stairs. There was some thudding and Kevin came down.

The girl that followed him, made me feel a familiar sensation. I was falling. Faster and faster through thick blackness.

"Lynnie, this is Brooke. My girlfriend," Kevin said beaming at Brooke. Brooke flipped her long blonde mane back and smiled.

"Hi," she said. I didn't say anything. Kevin wrapped a hand around Brooke's waist and they both waved at Joe who came in.

Brooke fluttered her eyelashes as Joe came in.

"Hey Lynetta. Brooke," he said.

"Hi Joesph," Brooke cooed. The floor was still gone underneath my feet.

The only thing that kept me from not falling was there was no warehouse walls behind them.

Brooke. That's the girl who has been haunting my dreams for the past two weeks. Brooke.

It was all so unnerving. I still felt flimsy and nautious as I stared at the girl that I have become so familiar with all this time.

Shaking her blonde hair and smiling. Beaming at Kevin and flirting outrageously with Joe.

That got my attention. She was a stuck up snob and I already hated her.

"Hey, Lynnie, how 'bout you stay for dinner?" Kevin asked. I opened my mouth about to protest when Joe said,

"Yeah, great idea. C'mon Lyn," and he pulled me away from the couple and dragged me into the kitchen with Nick.

"Listen, please pretend to like her," Joe pleaded.

"I never said I didn't like her!" I cried. Nick shot me a look and I shut up.

"It's written all over your face Lynetta," he said. I blushed. He was right. Kevin, how could you do this to me?

He knew I liked him! How could he go out and snag a snobby girlfriend right under my nose?

I sank down on one of the barstools next to their kitchen island. I put my head in my hand and sighed.

"How could he do that?" I whispered. The two Jonas's looked at me as I talked to the plastic fruit in the middle of the island.

They didn't speak so I kept speaking to the grapefruit.

"He must still know I like him. At least I think I do. It's hard to say I do, when he doesn't," I said.

"He does," Nick said abruptly. We all looked at him. "He never says that much, but I'm pretty sure he does."

I smiled at Nick grimly. He found a Hollywood scarlet. Compared to Brooke, I look like he had just scooped me out of a New York gutter.

Dinner was okay except for Brooke. Her and Kevin were pretty much going all mushy while we ate our pizza fresh from Pizza Hut.

They were wrapped together by the arm and she had her blonde head nuzzled against Kevin's chin.

It was all so gross and....disturbing so I put down my pizza and went to go dump the rest of it in the trash.

"I should go," I said picking up my bag and heading to the door.

"I'll walk you out Lyn," Nick said, getting up and hurrying away from the table and the nauseating couple.

"Bye Lyn," Kevin said. He sounded so far gone, I almost cried. My insides were still numb from the beating the words,

"This is Brooke my girlfriend," gave it. I was in the hall outside the door when Nick whispered,

"Listen, I know you don't like her, but please don't say anything about-" he began.

"About how she's using Kevin to get to Joe? No worries. Lips are sealed," I said sarcastically.

Nick sighed and looked at me sternly.

"Look, I've never seen Kevin this happy lately. Brooke is like the best thing that-" he stopped at the look that had crossed my face.

Best thing that had happened to him? What was I? A tuna wrap sandwich? A pair of socks that are just thrown aside?

I must have looked like I was gonna start bawling, because Nick said hurridly,

"Lyn, it was never gonna work with you guys!" That I think was what you call the clincher.

I burst into a silent stream of baby sobs and hurried out the door. At least I know I can keep a dignified posture in front of the man I love.

So, I left in a whirl of tears and snot. Not exactly the dramatic exit I pictured, but it seems nothing is going right for me anyway.

I hurried into my dorm and was greeted by a disgruntled Erin. Her blonde locks were mangled and mused.

Her clothes were wrinkled and her pants were ripped. She was also bound gagged and bleeding.

I dropped my bag in shock. The tear tracks on my cheeks felt sticky and cool in the air in my dorm room.

The thing that made me scream wasn't the fact that Erin was tied to a chair, it was who was holding a gun to her head.

Bob Jilo was learing at me over the glock.

"Hello," he said in a raspy voice full of malice and pallor. "Now I believe you are the little girly who has my wallet."

Technically what happened was I screamed so loud that I barely had time to duck as a bullet flew past my left ear barely missing me by a few inches.

I rolled under my bed and wrenched the wallet out of my converse and shoved it into my pants pocket.

"GET OUT!" Jilo cried as another bullet blasted through the air and I heard one of Erin's knic-knacs explode.

Erin's muffled scream was silenced by Jilo giving her a blow to the head and she toppled over in the chair.

"ERIN!" I screamed. Then the door that led to Travis's room was being hammered on and pounded on fiercely.

"LYNETTA! Erin! What's going on?! Who's shooting?!" Travis's voice called.

Jilo aimed the gun at the door where Travis was behind and was about to squeeze the trigger when I threw myself at him.

I saw a flash of white, a yell and then it was black.

Now right about here, I was thinking how it would feel to be dead. Pretty good actually, because I wouldn't feel the pain throbbing everywhere on me.

But no. I wasn't dead. That was just a dream. The nightmare was that I was still alive, and was being wrestled to the same van they had shoved Mandy in.

"Now, will you hand over the wallet you trash?" growled Jilo.

"I don't have it," I replied. He smacked me across the cheek with the back of his hand so I got a fistful of his big golden ring with a saphire in it.

I tasted blood and I fell silent. Don't ask me why I was lying. I just didn't want to give up the only thing that was keeping me alive.

I felt them tie me up. Slipped a gag over my mouth and pulled it so tight, I felt my skin scream.

There were about five other dudes there. They were all talking in gruff whispers and looking at me.

"Now GIVE ME THE WALLET!" Jilo yelled in a half whisper. I shook my head fiercely. That's when another blow was given to me.

I fell to the ground and met the hot pavement. Bits of gravel stuck to the bleeding part of my cheek.

I swear if this was a cartoon, you'd see little birds twittering in a circle above my head. I'd also have two little x's over my eyes.

The next thing I knew, I was being scooped up and dumped into the trunk of the car. I bounced slightly on the soft material.

It wasn't matress giant soft, it was scratchy and hard. They shut the drunk and I was instantly plunged into darkness.

The only thing that was emitting light was two small bullett holes in the trunk. I shivered at the thought.

It was the only thing that gave me air, so I was actually quite grateful to it. How was this gonna end?

Would anyone find me? I felt the reassuring lump in my pocket of the wallet. It kept me alive this long. How much longer will it now?

I fell asleep to the sound of the engine running. I wasn't walking down the hall this time, I was running.

I reached the warehouse and looked desperately around for Kevin or even Brooke. Anyone to help me.

I woke with a jolt as we screeched to a halt. I readied myself for the trunk to open. When it did, Jilo grabbed me and tossed me none too gently out.

I fell to my knees, scrapping up my trip pants and slicing open my knees. Then someone grabbed me with gruff hands by the scruff of my neck.

They were pushing me to the entrance of a building. Jilo signaled to release me, and the goon that was holding me did.

Jilo then took charge, which was worse because he kicked me in the back of my shins to move.

I felt bruises blossoming where his kicks were layed. When we opened the door to the building I stopped short.

Jilo's kick made contact with the back of my knee and I keeled over. It was the warehouse. The warehouse.

But this time I could smell and sense everything around me. It smelled of must, dirt, sweat, and maybe even....blood.

"Throw her in there," Jilo's voice echoed through the warehouse. We manuvered around all the boxes and barrells.

Then they threw me behind the door that usually concealed Kevin and Brooke waiting to smile and wave.

But instead of Kevin and Brooke, there was Mandy.

"Banby?" I said through my gag. The brute carrying me flung me to the floor where my head cracked against the concrete.

I could see why Mandy's head was bleeding. I felt mine ooze a little blood as well. I looked desperately around.

Something, anything to cut me free. My eye caught sight of a jagged rock that looked like a broken piece of a beer bottle.

No surprise there. I inched my way like an overgrown blonde worm to the glass. I took it and prickied my finger on accident.

Like I needed more blood spilled. I sat there and worked at my bonds for over ten minutes until I could pull away.

Pulling off my gag, I hurried to Mandy. Her wrists were bleeding where her bonds had cut and rubbed into them.

Her head had blood dripping down onto her face. The creeps must have beat her! She barely moved.

"Mandy, Mandy, wake up. C'mon! It's me Lynetta Baker," I whispered shaking her gently.

Mandy's head lolled and blood seeped over my fingers. I took the gag I had just disposed of.

And tied it around her head. Let her live!

Laying on that cold floor was the hardest part. Thoughts raced through my mind as I thought about what was happening to me.

Travis was possibly the only that could save me. He was the only one besides Erin who had heard the commotion in my dorm.

I hoped they were both alright. It's as I was thinking of this was when one of Mandy's eyelids flickered.

I ran over as she came around.

"Mandy! Mandy! You're awake!" I cried as she sat up to the best of her ability and rubbed the bandage on her head.

"Lynetta Baker? How'd you get here?" Mandy asked. She sounded hoarse and breathless.

"Never mind that. It's a long story," I said.

"But I barely know you! How come you tried to rescue me?" she asked.

"Wouldn't you if it was some one you knew?" I asked her. She smiled and her smile seemed cracked like it hadn't been used in awhile.

We sat there for a bit while Mandy told what had happened when she first got kidnapped.

I listened to her talking and when she was finished, I sighed and began my story.

"Well, I was coming home from my friend, Kevin's house," I began.

"Kevin? Kevin Jonas?" Mandy broke in. I nodded.

"You really do know them? There was a rumor going around that you had a little thing with Kevin," she said.

I blushed. Mandy giggled.

"It's true?!" she cried. I smiled in spite of myself and looked up at the cieling.

"Yeah. It is. But I just met his girlfriend...."

Mandy sucked in her breath.

"Ooo, cat fight," she said. I laughed. We both fell silent.

"How did you two meet?" Mandy asked. I began my next story.

"Get in here," Jilo commanded. A big beefy guy came over and grabbed me by my hair.

It was grimy from my blood and sticky from my tears. They slammed me into a chair facing Jilo.

"Now little girly, are you gonna hand over the wallet like a good lass?" he asked me in that creeped out voice of his.

"And what will you do to me if I do?" I asked my eyebrows raised. I hoped Jilo didn't sense my beating heart and the fear coursing through me.

"I'd give you to Johnson over there," Jilo rasped jerking a fat thumb back to the guy that had put me there.

He grinned stupidly and giggled a bloodthirsty laugh. I shivered and turned back to Jilo who was also grinning evily at me.

"He likes to play with his food before he eats it," Jilo added maliciously. I cringed as Jilo uttered a laugh.

"Now, hand it over," Jilo snapped suddenly buisness like.

"No," I said. I sounder tougher than I felt. I was so scared I felt like I was gonna wet my pants.

Jilo frowned and made his ugly scarred face look even uglier if possible. Then quick as a whip he had leaned over the table and smacked me.

I fell off my chair, getting the ring jabbed into my gums again. I tasted blood, and prayed a tooth didn't get knocked loose.

"Lock the lass back up until she wants to fork it over," Jilo commanded. Johnson scooped me up by the ankle and dragged me like a rag doll.

"Let go!" I screamed, but Johnson let out another retarded laugh. He tossed me like a sack of potatoes next to Mandy.

My head smacked the floor, and the world started to spin. I closed my eyes as everything seemed to fade and numb.

After awhile I couldn't feel Mandy shaking me or hear her voice calling my name. All I felt was exahusted.

The world made one last spin and then everything was still and black.

So, yeah. I'm a hostage. It's not as cool as you think. It sucks. Man, at least Mandy's awake and feeling better and I'm not alone.

Jilo and his minions are getting drunk and playing cards outside. I leaned against the brick wall with my PPG notebook.

I had shoved it into my sock so at least I can write. It's been at least three days that I have been kidnapped.

Two weeks in Mandy's case. Mandy looked peaky and pale. She shook a lot and took naps often.

My stomach growled. It felt like something was tearing me up inside. Either that, or my heart was sick.

And even though I'm in a life threatening situation, I keep thinking back to Kevin and Brooke.

What's wrong with me? I'm probably gonna be murdered and all I can think about is a boy and his new girlfriend?

But......he was my boy first. It sounds sexest and wimpy, but he was mine. He just didn't know it.

And he still doesn't. Why couldn't I tell him that, no I wasn't okay with just being friends. That I wanted to be more than that.

I wanted to be Brooke Hills. Why for some reason was I not afraid? I jumped at the sound of a beer bottle smashing against the door.

I glanced at Mandy, who had her eyes closed and breathing softly. I got up and pressed my ear against the door.

"What are we gonna do with the blonde un?" a voice said. I held my breath.

"Dunno. She's stills got my wallet," Jilo said. I was leaning on the door now. Now I was shaking.

I was afraid for the first time since I was here. I was fearing what else I'd overhear.

"So, we gonna kill er?" the same voice asked. I heard Jilo chuckle.

"Most likely. She's a cheeky little thing aint' she?" I heard him say. I cringed. Kill me? Even if I have the wallet?

I stopped breathing all together and just listened.

"Why kill her? Two ransom pays," a different voice piped up. That's why Mandy's here. Ransom.

But why me? I don't have a family. They died when I was three. I'm from a foster family. That's why I left so soon.

There were so many kids there. And I was the oldest. I was practically the second mom.

I was so different there. Right when I finished high school, I left for the farthest school I could.

Maine. I heard the rest of the group laugh appreciatively at Jilo's remark.

"Lyn? Are you okay?" Mandy said from the floor. I sank onto the ground. Sliding down the door.

I realized I was sweating and crying.

"Lyn? You're sheet white," Mandy said hurrying to me. I collapsed and buried my head in my hands.

Fear was washing over me. Without anyone to pay the ransom, I would surely be killed.

Mandy had a rich and important family who would pay for her safe return. No one would for me.

I was alone. That thought multiplied so many times in my head that I cried it out to Mandy.

"Lyn, you're not alone. You have me and Travis....." she was singing as I cried. "And Kevin."

That name unsettled me as thought about Kevin. The last time I saw him, he was looking at Brooke, the way he used to look at me.

The last words Nick said to me, "It would never work between you two anyway!"

Was that the last thought I'd have about Kevin? That it won't work?

It sorta jumped around a bit. I'm probably gonna end this soon.

The floor surged around me. Shaking like a seismic earthquake. The sound around me passed by my ears and didn't enter them.

Mandy's calls and reassuances were irrelevant to the point. I was going to die.

I squeezed my eyes closed so tightly that colors popped up behind my eyelids. Things didn't make sense, nor did I want them to.

The more sense it made, the more agonizing it would be to hear that gun shot and the bullet pierce my skull.

I thought back to Jake. Him going through all that trouble just for me to get captured by Bob Jilo.

"Lynetta," Mandy was saying. That's all I heard, my name. Everything else blurred itself together so all I heard was roaring wind.

"It's over. It's over for me Mandy," I whispered. I had to accept it. Crying about it would get me no where.

I had to accept it, and welcome it with my head held high. God, what am I saying? I'M TWENTY YEARS OLD!

I've only had THREE BOY FRIENDS IN MY WHOLE LIFE! Including Kevin! And I don't even think he considered me as anything but a friend.

That hurt. I opened my eyes and all I saw were my arms. My head was still buried in my sleeve.

I felt Mandy's hand on my back and that made me cry harder. Kevin's hand on my back, all those times.

Us sitting there on the beach, on his bed, in the park. Him comforting me whenever I was upset.

Well, he wasn't here this time. And God knows I'm upset. I sat up and wiped my face off with the back of my hand.

"What do you mean it's over for you?" Mandy asked. I was spared the moment of answering for the door flying open.

Jilo entered with two of his men, including Johnson. He leered at me, and I shrank away. Mandy recoiled into the corner.

I wasn't gonna cower from them though. I stood up to Jilo's height and glowered down at them, in what I hoped to be a brave demeanor.

"You can't hold me for ransom. I have no family. You won't get your stupid money," I spat. Jilo didn't look frightened. He looked entertained.

He reached out a hand and I flinched. He cackled and stroked my cheek. I felt my skin crawl where he touched it.

His touch was cold and it seemed to freeze my cheek. Mandy watched terrified from the corner.

I was afraid, but I wasn't gonna give him the satisfaction.

"You're a pretty little thing," Jilo growled. I recoiled slightly.

"Shame to see you go," he said. Fear gripped at my insides as Jilo laughed and grabbed my wrist.

"You wanna be defiant girly?" he laughed. He was dragging me out of the room, and into the main room.

I was still amazed that Jilo knew what "defiant" meant and was taken aback as he pushed me over and I landed ontop of the table.

I crashed hard onto the concrete floor as Jilo and his goons laughed. I must look like a sight.

Dirty, hungry and covered in blood.

"You're a regular decorated emergency," I said. I don't know what made me start speaking in lyrics of Panic At the Disco's Camisado.

But, it was the only thing that gave me comfort. The words that Ryan Ross had written about his father's drinking addiction came flooding back to me.

It was all I could remember.

"The bruises and contusions will remind me what you did when you wake, you've earned a place atop the ICUs hall of fame," I muttered under my breath.

The men were all staring at me. Brendon Urie's voice took me over.

"Camera's caught you causing a commotion on the gurney again," I finished. It was silence for a minute until a guy with a British accent said,

"She's bloody crazy!"

I had only a fleeting glance of Jilo swooping upon me and striking me over the head with a chair.

Then it was black.

This was a therapuetic chain of events

"What were you thinking Lyn?" Mandy was saying. I was pretty much still uncounscience, so I just listened.

"You can't talk back to them like that!" Mandy said. I noticed she was trying to clean up the wound Jilo gave me with the chair.

"You just wanna get kicked around like a football?" I asked. Mandy sighed.

"They have guns Lyn. We're at their mercy," she said. I sat up. The world was still spinning from the blow.

"I need to break outta here," I said. Mandy's eyes widenend in shock.

"Lynetta. Shut up. You can't. I won't let you," she cried. It was as she said that we heard a boom.

A weird sort of noise was blasting outside.

"Sirens," Mandy murmered. I sat up a bit straighter as the boom echoed again but this time, a familiar voice shouted through a megaphone,

"We have the place surrounded! Come up with your hands up!"

"Ernie!" I cried, springing to my feet. Mandy was standing now too. I heard Jilo swearing outside.

I grouped into my pocket and withdrew for the first time the wallet. Everything was inside-except..........

Then the door burst open. There were about a dozen cops there. The door caught me by surprise and blew me off my feet.

Again. Jeez. I saw lights again and the cops swarmed around me, until I passed out. I had a dream again.

It wasn't the warehouse or Brooke and Kevin. It was just me and Kevin. Outside together.

He had his hand on my back. And he was kissing me. It was such a great dream, I didn't want to wake up.

I floated in and out of counsciencnouss. I saw myself on a stretcher being pushed out of the horrible warehouse.

I saw familiar faces, like Jake and.....Kevin too. He was walking alongside my stretcher with Jake.

I reached out a hand and grabbed Kevin's. He jumped and then grinned in relief.

"Lyn!" I heard him exclaim. I smiled to as I closed my eyes again. The stretcher reached the ambulance.

I was pushed in and then, I fell asleep again.

I felt warm for the first time in a few days. I was in a bed. It was bright and I could smell the quarentine wings of a hospital.

I opened my eyes feebly. There were all the faces of people I cared so much about. Jake, Travis, Kevin, Joe, Nick, Erin, and Veronica.

Everyone smiled when I opened my eyes.

"Lyn! You're alive!" Erin cried. I smiled. Kevin was the only one sitting on my bed. He was holding my hand.

My other hand had an IV in it. I had a bandage on my head and a cast on the hand Kevin was holding.

"Duh, I'm alive," I said. My voice was horse and I felt like I had a sore throat. But I was so happy.

Happy to be with the people I loved again. Travis rolled his eyes (his trademark), and me being so high on medication, I didn't mind.

"How'd you know I was gone?" I asked, looking at Jake. He shrugged.

"I figured something must be wrong, since you hadn't sent me your new scores on Minesweeper to rub it in," he said, smiling.

I laughed. Kevin was the only one that had remained silent. He was looking down at my hand.

I put the IV hand over his and he looked up.

"Kev? You okay?" I asked. He smiled up at me.

"Never better," he said. We just looked at each other for a minute before Travis clapped his hands together and said,

"Weeell, lets give them two some alone time. Let's go guys," he said. And they all waved and said good bye as the piled out of my room.

That left me and Kevin all alone. It was silent except for him holding my hand before he said,

"I thought I was never going to see you again," he said. could he be sweeter?

"Me too," I said. We sat there for a minute before he said,

"I got worried when you didn't drop by in the morning," he said. I froze.

"Wait, YOU found me? But I thought Jake-"

He reached into his pocket and withdrew the slip of paper from the wallet. The one with the address, I just now realized was the address of the warehouse.

"I found this in your shoe," he explained grinning and handing it to me.

"How'd you know to look in my converse?" I asked smiling too.

"I know you very well Lynnie," he said. I squeezed his hand tightly.

"Hey, I have an idea. Listen, we're going back to LA tomorrow," he began but than my blood froze.

"You are?!" I cried. He smiled and held my shoulder.

"calm down Lyn, I want you to come too," he said. I smiled.

"Really? I guess, I do need a vacation," I agreed.

"Big time," he added. I smiled wider.

"Okay. I'll go."

"Travis is probably going to LA too. For Dani," Kevin said.

"Even better! It'll be like a whole vacation for us!" I cried. NOW I was ecstatic.

"Serena, Joe's girlfriend, is coming too. They haven't seen each other in like a year, so it's like a reunion too," he said.

So I get to meet the infamous Serena? And Travis is gonna be there? Hmmm.

We fell silent again, until he broke the silence.

"I really do love you Lyn. You're like a sister to me," he said.

A sister? Ouch.

I paused for a minute.

"I love you too Kevin."

Prolouge.

In the end, I was so happy I was held for ransom. My room is almost empty for spring break tomorrow.

Me and Travis are going together to LA since the Jonas Brothers had left the yesterday.

I glanced down at the floor. Erin had left to get me some extra things that I forgot we didn't have.

The cast was gone, seeing as how I had only sprained my wrist and it was a very minor sprain.

I had also suffered two concussions which had also healed, but I was instructed not to do any contact sports and ect. for awhile.

As if. I'd totally get a concussion every DAY just to be with Kevin. Kevin's flight probably just landed an hour ago.

I hope he made it there safely. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. Erin should be coming back soon.

Mine and Travis's plane leaves at 7 'o clock. PM. Like I can wait that long?! I am already suffering seperation anxiety.

The front door opened, and me expecting Erin carrying a bunch of toilet paper, was surprised to see Travis.

He looked grim and sank down somberly on my bed.

"Trav? What's wrong?" I asked, wheeling my chair around to look at him.

"Veronica broke up with me," he said simply. He sounded.....neutral. He had no expression on his face.

I couldn't tell what he was thinking.

"Oh god Travis, I'm sorry," I said. He shrugged.

"Doesn't matter," he said in that same expressionless tone. I sighed. So, I guess it's gonna be a long plane ride.

True, I'm probably gonna bring my laptop, but I think I'm over private blogs. So I guess for now,

I was going home. At least there is internet on the plane. I was skimming my usual websites that I liked to keep up with.

"Kev, you sure it's a good idea for me to go home?" Nick asked me. I looked over at him.

"Why?" I asked.

"You know.....Dani," he muttered. I rolled my eyes.

"For god's sake Nick. She lives FAR AWAY FROM US," I said simply. He sighed and sank down into his seat.

"I know, I know," he said. I skimmed down the page of one of my favorite things to read on the internet.

Smiling, I fingured the trapt pad. Strumming my fingers on the keys, I moved down to the Reply button.
