Are People Threatened?

Sorry for the lame title. And I'm not referring to you guys. lol.

I'm just thinking, are people threatened by Miley? Not because of beauty, or talent(though she has both in spades), but because she speaks her mind, knows her worth, and is just all around assertive. Would people in general rather she be meek and timid? A lot of her songs are about not changing for a boy, or knowing her self-worth, or giving the guy crap for treating her like crap. Ex: "I don't, I won't need you" in GNO. "Don't walk away when I'm talking to you. This ain't no time for your bad attitude" from "Don't Walk Away." "It's so clear to me now, you can't treat me that way" from Clear(not sure if she wrote that though), and many others. Do people find this conceited? Because I find it really progressive. Perhaps it has nothing to do with gender, but still. I just see so many people calling her a whore, which was a word created specifically to demean women, and I'm just wondering if people can't handle an assertive 15 year old female.

Sorry for the speech. lol. I watched Grey's Anatomy last night, and that always gets my feminist juices flowing. lol.

I actually think that is a reasonable thing. I for one love that about her, but that's just my opinion.

I think that's a very good point, actually. I think probably quite a lot of people feel threatened by Miley for those reasons. Sometimes people take confidence and strength of character as arrogance. That's down to personal opinion, but i personally love that Miley is the way she is. As to the threatening thing, i'm not saying that there's no reason for people not to like Miley, some people are just never going to like her or her music, that's the way the world works. But the people calling her a whore/slut etc., i think it's fair for me to say that that is PARTLY down to them feeling threatened by her.

EDIT: I just wanted to add something. Something i also love about Miley, is that she's not like Avril Lavigne. I don't mean to offend fans of Avril, but to me, it feels more and more like her lyrics are becoming about how she is better than other girls. I can genuinely say i loved Avril's first album, still listen to it now, and there is nothing wrong with being strong willed and speaking your mind. But, i personally feel that with her last album, the lyrics to the songs were basically saying 'i'm better than you and i know it'. Okay, Sk8er Boi was a little like that too, but a prime example for me is 'Girlfriend'. The whole song for me is saying: 'hey, i don't like you're girlfriend, i think you're hot, so you should go out with me instead.' However, that is just my personal opinion. Going back to Miley, i'm very glad that she's confident enough to say what she thinks, and be proud of the things she believes in, without trying to force it on others or shove it in their faces.

Unless the person is male, in which case, it's supposed to be attractive. The hot arrogant bad boy is the paradigm of sexy, but God forbid a woman/girl be confident. I'm not saying it's what everyone thinks, but I really do think a lot of people are probably threatened by an outspoken, confident, 15 year old girl, who seems quite comfortable with sexuality. Most of the people who call Miley a whore, are Nick Jonas fans. It's not a generalization, because there's a lot to back it up. They trash Miley for either breaking his heart, or not appreciating him, or other stuff like that. But no one stops to think that maybe, just maybe, he didn't appreciate her, or that he was lucky to have her, as opposed to her being lucky to have him. It's always about how the girl is lucky to have the guy, and I just think it's crap. A woman is not allowed to be confident, without being called arrogant, going back to my original thing. And I just find that sad. I know it's the nature of the beast for girls to pick the guy over the girl, but it really makes me sad for them.

Personally, I don't think Miley's arrogant.
And anybody calling her arrogant because
of her songs are out right strange. I mean,
A song is just a song. When Carrie Underwood's
Before He Cheats came out, nobody assumed she
did that. (Which I know she didn't) But since it's
Miley, a teen star, people assume all them songs
actually happened. =/ It's out right strange.
(Not saying any of y'all think bad of Miley,
just sayin')
