Sorry for the dumb title. lol.

So in the New Song thread we were talking about the difference between the head and chest voice. The head voice is light and high, and the chest voice is a lot heavier, but less resinant. Miley's voice is odd, in that her chest voice resinates pretty well, depending on the song. Generally, the chest voice isn't supposed to resinate. But when Miley sings, even though you can tell it's her chest voice, it sounds like a head voice. She probably does have a head voice, but I've never heard her. I'd like too, but her chest voice is so smooth, and unstrained, that maybe she doesn't even need it. Hey flute, what's the highest note you've heard Miley hit?

miley has one of the unique vocal ranges like christina agulaira
she can do high c's that im very jealous of her for that :P
but i dont think ive ever heard it sing in her head voice..

And the thing is, when she sings high notes, they don't sound strained, which is unique for chest voice. I can't go too high in my chest voice, because my voice is placed in the middle. I'm most comfortable singing in my head voice. But Miley's tone in the chest voice is really something to be envied. It's rich and smooth, but also husky and a bit growly. I would kill to hear her sing in her head voice. In Good Golly Miss Dolly, we hear her sing "If We Were A Movie" acapella, and it sounds amazing. And I think just a smidge of that was head voice.

I've never heard Miley hit a high C or are you talking about Christina?

I can't believe you guys made a thread about this..lol
And miley's voice is so unique, there's not another one like it
I love it!

The highest I've heard Miley sing is probably in Ready, Set, Don't Go. But it's harder for me to tell, since she is in chest voice. Not that it's different, it's just it's easier for me to tell when someone sings in head voice. The highest note I've heard her sing is probably in "Four Walls." "One In A Million" has a pretty high note(for chest) in there too though. Hmm.

there is no way Miley hit a high C in chest voice, thats all I'm saying.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 12:07 AM
What about a b flat? Lol. Yeah I agree. Nor should anyone attempt that if not trained. I think her highest note is in One in a Million. "But really great things happe in the Blink of an eye." I think it's on the word blink. She's got a pretty awesome range though. Her low range is to die for. I'd kill for it. Not literally, well, maybe. I usually go pretty low, but I think there are some note she can hit that I can't. I'm jealous. Heh.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 12:09 AM
I don't know if we're talking about the same C but its nearly impossible, if not impossible to hit a high c in chest voice. No matter how trained you are. I've got training and even I can only an F. just got in a fight with a bunch of haters on IMDB who claimed Miley has no range. Anyways I agree, etheir one in a million or four walls, for recorded versions. Live definately ready, set, don't go.

Lol I'm completely lost in this thread.
I better not comment or I'll say something wrong lol.
Yero, like 70% of your posts I can't understand, you have such an expanded vocabulary there's a lot of words I don't know while talking about 'voice', 'singing' and these stuff so I better just look at the comments and wonder lol.
Yeah as I say since the beginning her voice is unique, there's no one with a voice near hers.

That's the thing I hate. No one ever compliments someone for a low range. They only want to hear people belt into the stratosphere. As a mezzo, that bugs the heck out of me. They say she has no range, because she doesn't sing really high. But they ignore the fact that she can sing really low. Which is a major accomplishment. I think Four Walls has the highest note now. "Out of my Head." Yeah, that's what I'm hearing. God that song is going to be amazing. What's her lowest note? Cause I've heard her hit some doozies. I Miss You is pretty low all the way around. See You Again is pretty low. I would say probably in "I Miss You." Come to think of it, all her songs are really low. Which I love. I'm all about the low range. Poor ignored low range.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 12:20 AM
they better not cut Four Wall's, because I know they do cut songs but after going thru the trouble to get rights I doubt they'll cut it.
That song is going to be amazing, I think that should be her first single off this album.
and tell me about it with the belting into the stratosphere, we've got musical theater to thank for that(as much as I love it, lol). I'm a mezzo too, and that annoys the heck out of me, I have a pretty big range though, so I can hit low notes, like anything Miley's sang, I can sing(believe me, I've done it a million times, lol)

Marauder
04-24-2008, 12:24 AM
Oh yes..people ignore low range.
I know to sing Loud and Low..and when i sing Low i am like..singing like an lullaby..Miley can do that.
Wonder if someday Miley write an lullaby[yes i know it would be rare]

Yero34
04-24-2008, 12:25 AM
If they cut Four Walls, I'll smack someone.

Yeah, same here. My favourite Broadway star is probably Lea Salonga, cause she hits some rockin' low notes. But also high ones too. She's just, dang I love her. I wish the low range was more appreciated I guess is what I'm trying to say. I'm a mezzo, but my voice teacher thinks I'll be a contralto, I can go pretty high, but I prefer the low. I think my highest note is a G. Yet I suck on E's. Seriously, my E notes are horrible. lol. But my G's are pretty clean. As for Miley, I want to hear her head voice so stinkin' badly. I think it's probably very beautiful, and would surprise a lot of people.

In Four Walls, when she sings "they know a secret," the second half of the word secret sounds like a head voice. It's very light.

omg I have the same problem, E's on the staff give me trouble but I can hit an F in chest voice and a B above the staff in head voice

Wow. Crazy. lol. I don't know what my highest note is in chest voice. My range varies. I'm scared of high notes except for Gs. My favourite stuff is definitely musical theatre. I'd kill to hear Miley do a musical theatre number. Mama Mia at age 11 does not count, though it was very good. And I just realized that the highest I've heard Miley sing is the National Anthem. lol. She hit all those notes in chest voice, and she hit all the low notes too. Lord that song is rangey.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 12:43 AM
I know I was thinking of that. I was listening to it a couple of minutes ago, and their are parts when other artists typically go into head voice(particularily at the end) and Miley was hitting all of those in chest voice.
and tell me about it being rangey, in high school for every audition thats the song my choir teacher made us sing.
I love low notes too. I love the richness of them. Miley hits some amazing low notes(I think its in one in a million but I might be totatally off, cuz I haven't heard that song in awhile)

i can only get an f
but miley has a unique voice that can do things other singers cnat

Yero is it me or does Miley actually go into head voice for a note or two during the national anthem? I'm listening to it again, and I think she might in the beginning.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 12:48 AM
I'm listening to her doing the Star Spangled Banner right now. It's so good, give or take two or three notes. That just sounds like a singing voice. You can tell that it's coming from her diaphragm, because it's resinating, in a chest voice. So jealous. lol. It's kind of an anamoly in that her chest voice can resinate like that. My voice resinates like that, in my head, not my chest.

Yero is it me or does Miley actually go into head voice for a note or two during the national anthem? I'm listening to it again, and I think she might in the beginning.

Could be. "Fight" sounds like it was in her head. Most of it was chest though. What an amazing chest though, chest voice. lol. Her tone is really quite beautiful on the National anthem, again, give or take a note.

miley

When I've never heard her do it.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 12:55 AM
What's the highest note in Star Spangled Banner? Cause whatever it was, she hit it in chest voice.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 12:57 AM
it depends, and I can't tell what note it is she hit unless I have a piano with me, I'm wierd like that. but theres no way that was a high C.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 01:00 AM
Yeah, I can't tell unless I can relate it to another song. I do most things by ear. Can't read music too well. I mean I can, but I'd rather do it by ear. When I practice my songs, I just do it acapella. It's free-er. lol. I want to hear Miley sing a song from a musical. What songs do you think she'd do well?

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 01:05 AM
I can read music really well and play 3 instruments. I just need the piano by me.
I'd love to hear Miley sing not that girl from wicked for no other reason then I wanna hear her hit those low notes.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 01:09 AM
I can play piano(by ear) and I'm trying to learn guitar, but I don't really play. Oh God yes. Not that Girl, she would kill it. In a good way. I think it would almost have to be a contemporary song. I can't see her singing Think of Me or anything like that. I want to hear her head voice so badly. I'm officially whining now. lol.

krrristin
04-24-2008, 01:11 AM
no.
you've got it partially wrong, but the right idea.
It's along the lines of what is harder for you to reach, etc.
that's what my vocal coach says.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 01:13 AM
I'd like to hear her sing defying gravity, but I'm not sure if she could pull it off, a lot she certain has the stage presence for it. Its just that songs bear to sing. Talk about belting into the stratosphere.

flutesinger262

no.

theres different techniques and those techniques have different definations of what head and chest voice are and when they start and end.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 01:17 AM
Oo, that would be, interesting. God that song is hard. It'd be awesome, but man it's hard. What about On My Own? I can kind of hear her doing that. I'd just love to hear her sing a Broadway song, cause that's how I tend to gauge(sp) a tone, and also emotion. Plus it's my favourite genre and I just want to hear her sing it. lol.

krrristin
04-24-2008, 01:20 AM
high and low would be alto and soprano.
not head and chest voice mydear.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 01:26 AM
I'm not talking about high and low, and the term is actually Mezzo .
Yero, I love On My Own, its the first song I ever sang in competition. Miley would do a great job, and yes Defying Gravity is insane, I sang it for an audition once.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 01:31 AM
You sang Defying Gravity? Dang, you've got b...guts. lol. I think my hardest musical song was Mister Snow from Carousel when I was 15 years old. Or 16. It was fast, and I had always done slow ones. lol. I just love ballads, but I'm trying to expand into comedy numbers too for my festival next year.

She'd also probably do really well on Someone Like You from J&H, though it might be just a tad too high. I think any power ballad she would probably do well on. But God no Memory, so overdone. I love it, but I hate it too. lol.

krrristin
04-24-2008, 01:40 AM
NO offense but this is about Miley... not you. ;)

Miley has talent. Not amazing just yet, if she could just work on her range a little bit more and not sound as raspy she might appeal to a wider crowd.
In song of her songs on her last album she just talked (Let's Dane)... so hopefully this is better.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 01:44 AM
Yeah, I worked my butt off to learn DG.
I love some one like you, its one of my favorite songs.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 01:45 AM
we are talking about Miley, lol, we're talking about what songs we want Miley to sing.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 01:48 AM
How did you sing it? Did you do it mostly in chest, or 50/50, or what? Lol. Cause on the OCR, Idina does the first part in head I think, but by the end, she's belting her little heart out. I love Idina Menzel. Defying Gravity gives me eargasms. lol.

Someone Like You and On My Own are sticking out as pretty good options. I don't think any Andrew Lloyd Webber, because while I love it, I don't think it's contemporary enough. Though she could really kill Any Dream Will Do. Might be too high though. She proved with the National Anthem that she can really belt though. So maybe. To expand on this, do you think she would do well on the actual stage? There's the million dollar question. If so, in what play or what character? I mean for when she gets older.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 01:50 AM
I pretty much did the whole thing belting.
I like On My Own best for Miley. I think she'd do great on stage, what role IDK.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 01:53 AM
Like I said, you've got guts.

Eponine I'd say. Not Cosette. I hate Cosette, and she's a soprano anyway. I think when she gets older Miley would kick butt as Maureen in Rent. Can't you imagine Miley doing "Over the Moon?" God I think I'd die. After that, I can't think of anything else. I'd love to see her do the stage. Do you think she has the chops, or could develop the chops for it? I'm trying to think of musical comedies too. Wow, I'm blanking.

flutesinger262
04-24-2008, 01:58 AM
Miley got her start doing stage work in regional productions in Tennesse, so shes done it before.
OMG, Miley would be a perfect Maureen but that would be a drasticly different role then what shes during now, not to mention would probably be considered inappropiate for her fans.

Yero34
04-24-2008, 02:02 AM
Really? Cool. Any specific productions?

I know, she would totally rock as Maureen. When she's older of course. I don't think anyone wants to see her, posterior at this stage. lol. Rent rocks. As for more age appropriate stuff, I'm blanking. What are the young roles for Broadway?

Miley has a beautiful voice, rather it be head or chest it sounds amazing! She just needs her voice to mature a little more and she will be a knockout, on top of that her next album will have more slow songs to show her talent!
