Chapter one:
Jayden lay flat on her bed, messing with her radiant, shoulder length, brunette hair. She then heard a scream for her name in the downstairs living room: “JAYDEN, GET YOUR SPINELESS BUTT OVER HERE!” called her big sister, Lilly. “Comin, sis!” she yelped. She rushed downstairs to see what the fuss was about. He sister was sitting on the couch, slyly smiling at her, eying her. “I just called to see if you had a dress I could borrow for my prom,” she said, strumming her golden, hazelnut hair. “Oh, so that’s what you called me down for, a dress. Well let me tell you something-“ then her mom and dad walked into the house.
“Oh, hello girls, “ they said, sounding upset. “So, how was the ‘work’ party?” Jayden said. “Horrible. I got fired,” her mom said, glaring at their dad. “Sing one classical song and I’m an endangerment to society. All I-“ Jayden’s mom suddenly butt in. “No, that’ not all he did. He knocked over the table, gave my boss a hernia, and then injured half of my co-workers! YOU CALL THAT JUST A CLASSICAL SONG, RICK?” Her parents continued arguing and bickering throughout the halls of the upstairs, and finally to their room.
Lilly turned to Jayden. “So, Jay, got my dress?” “No, Lilly. I’m not lending you any of my dresses because you never give any of my stuff back. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be outside!” she grabbed a suede coat from the coat rack, and hurried out the door.
She ran to her friend Tasha’s house to tell her about what happened. She knocked on her door and sighed. “Who is it?” someone said from inside. “It’s me, Jayden.” “Oh, come on in!” Tasha’s mom said. She opened the door and saw boxes all over the place. “Um..what’s all this? And where’s Tasha?” Jayden said.
“Oh, we’re moving. My husband and I got a new job together in New Jersey,” she said, packing a few dishes, “and Tasha is in her room, packing.”
Jayden rushed to the back of the house where Tasha was, in her room. Jayden shook her head. “Tasha…why didn’t you tell me this?” she yelled. “I’m sorry, but my dad told us this yesterday night, and we’ve been packing since then. And girl, ya don’t have to fuss at me! And plus we’ve been too busy to call anbody…” she said, flipping her braids out of her face.
