Hi guys,

I want to know which languages you learn in school? How many month/years?

At my school in 9th - 12th grade
you have a choice of
Spanish, French or German.
and then also in 11th and 12th
they add the choice of sign language.

In my school you can only take Spanish, there is no choice.

in my school(6th-7th) only spanish but in
9th-12th
i you can take french.

7th grade you have a semester of latin, spanish, french, and german
8th-9th you choose latin, spanish, french, or german
10th-12th ^those languages and i think more..idk im not in highschool :P

I chose spanish because i haved a godmother and her kids that live there
but starting in 11th grade i think i'm going to take sign language
cuz that would be really cool to know.

well in my district you have to have two language credits to graduate. in
middle school, you can take either french1 or spanish1. these are taught over
a two year period, and you only earn one credit.

but in high school, there's french, spanish, latin, german, japanese...etc.

you have to have at least 2 years language credits at my school.
but we have the choice of spanish, french, or german. and like theres 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, and AP. But basically you can have the choice of either 9/10 or AP the year you get to that level, but the thing about AP is you write one essay in that language every week so most people choose 9/10.

Well, I'm homeschooled. I have school online and I think that 4th and up can take German,French,Spanish, or Arabic.

In my school you can start taking a foreign language in 7th grade through 12th grade. We have these choices and we have to take two conseuctive years of the same language to graduate from high school.

I take spanish I

spanish
french
german
latin

Ok I dont live in America I live in Africa but this is how it works at my school:
grade 1 (6 yrs) - form 2 (14yrs) you have to learn Shona (language spoken in Zimbabwe)
form 1 (13yrs) - form 4 (16yrs) you have to learn French
Then English is what we actually speak here.

yeah! Some of my friends take latin. If I was smart , I should have taken latin , because it helps you on your SAT's

in my school we have:
-Spanish
-French
-German
-Sign Language
-Italian
In grades 7-9 u can only take Spanish, French, or German. Then once u get into 10th u can add on either sign language or Italian as one of ur electives.

In three schools i've been too, two of them taught spanish, one for full year one for half. The other school had both spanish and french.
But in High schol you can learn many different languages like german, maderin, etc...

Uhm yeah my only choice is Spanish or German, but thats only for highschool. From kindergarden till 8th grade, we're forced to speak Spanish, which I think is so gay. Like honestly, I think they chose Spanish to teach us because theres so many Spanish people that are like invading America and they want us to be able to communicate with them. Uhm NO! They are the ones comming her, so learn English, don't force us to learn their language. Gawd, makes me mad :(

In my school, we have the choice of French or Spanish.
Once you choose it, you take it from seventh grade until I think twelve.

When I was in middle school we were required to take spanish all 3 years, and it was a twice a week class. my school was really small and there was only one class per grade and everyone had the same class at the same time, so we had a pre planned schedule.

now in high school i can choose french or spanish (im in spanish) and its every other day because we are on block schedule. the least you can take is 2 years out of 4, but 3 is recommended and you CAN take 4. i will probably take 4 because i'm pretty good at picking up the language, plus it will be good for college ;)

and if you dont like spanish you can switch to french if you want, or the other way around.

In kindergarten through eigth, we had to learn Spanish. We only learned the words about school. Nothing else. Nada! No! In fifth and seventh we did a cinco de mayo fiesta, in sixth we did Day of the Dead, and in eigth we went to a Spanish dance class and then out to a Spanish restuarant for lunch. Which was a waste cuz I took Salsa and Tango lessons for twelve years before that and I still do. And i already know the whole Spanish language. In high school, we can learn Spanish (I'm not), French (yup), Italian (no), Mandarin (sp?), Irish, Indian, Hawaiian culture like learning about their language and culture (yea cuz we go to Hawaii at the end of the year, each year we take it.), and something else. We have to take two of these classes.

At my school you have the options of:

French I,II,III, and AP IV
Spanish I, II, III, and AP IV
Italian I, II
German I, II, III
American Sign Language I, II, III, and IV
Spanish for Spanish Speakers I, II, III, and IV
I'm in French II
We get a few options compared to some other schools.

I don't live in the US, I live in South America. I think [I might be wrong] that almost every private school has english as a subject. I have gone to 2 schools in my life and both tought english. So I think that if we must speak english to communicate, you should too. Plus, many kids who are in public school [there might be a public one that has english but I so doubt it] don't know a word of english, and they have the right to communicate. :D

Sorry for double-posting but I needed to quote thiss, I would have taken either chinese or japanese because it must be sooo cool to learn a language like those :D I mean I'm sure I will take something like manderin sometime in my life. :P

I'm not from the States, I'm from Canada. It kinda works the same over here. Except we learn French instead of Spanish because a.) It's a French Colony (France took over it for a very long time until Canada became an independent country), b.) The province/state of Quebec speaks PURE French (which I think is kinda rude) and c.) Quebec pretty much hates Canada.

In Grade 4 to Grade 9, we are forced to take French as it is the 2nd official language. In Grade 9, you have a choice of Applied French and Academic French, Applied is like is a bit easier and Academic is a bit hard compared to Applied. I took Applied because I think my French marks aren't sufficient enough to survive Academic.

When you enter Grade 10, you can take a lot of other languages but they're not mandatory. They offer French, Spanish, Latin, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, German, Simplified Chinese and there are others that I can't remember. Also since they are Electives, it depends on how many kids sign up for those classes. So lets say, there wasn't a lot of people who signed up for German, they're going to cancel that class and you have to take a different elective.

I want to take Spanish for next year, but I'm taking Graphic Design and Guitar.
