Yes there's definitely a picture. You should see it fine in Windows Media Player, but if not try VLC or Media Player Classic.

Thank you so much!!!! I was trying to get a HD version off of Rapidshare when the site that connected me to it lost internet connection last night and hasn't come back up yet. Drats!!!!

Here is a rework that I did the other night. The Original had worse hot spots on the face. I tried to put more light on her hair and bring out the "sisters" on the necklace. I hope you like this version:

Try the DivX version, it's much better. However you have to keep in mind that all of these are reduced for file size. The original uncompressed video is well over 2gb. And this video particularly has a lot of blacks and dark colors and then bright flashes, so it's going to show the artifacts in the picture more. A day time performance, like the Xmas Parade, will actually show better because of the light.

If you guys want a higher res version and a file around 800mb to 1gb and can tell me a place that can host a file that size, I'll look into posting higher end version of this. :57:

Ever considered using a x.264 codec? Would make those full HD videos smaller and better quality than DivX/Xvid. There are one or two hosts that handle files that big, can't quite remember them right now though. Though I don't really need it in higher quality, I already downloaded the full .ts files :).

Is it possible for this to be posted without the crappy Jonas Bros. performances in it ? I mean, the one with both them and Miley is alright, but the rest should be cut out.

I have considered it and we will explore that option again. I tried it one time 2 years ago and did not have the processing power to encode the video fast enough. Right now it takes too long to just do the two versions I have done, and this prevents me from getting to other videos. Unfortunately I can not just let my computer encode for two days straight right now nor can I afford to upgrade to the latest greatest hardware. The other concern is that before when I posted a video at 720p, tons of people had issues playing it with the video and audio being out of sync on their computers, whereas those with newer comps had no problems. With that video I was forced to post 3 versions, but that is not something we can afford to do. I'm afraid that many people still might not have the proper hardware required to decode a video such as that. We want the divx version to be one that is playable by a lot of people and doesn't require that you have a computer built in the last year. So we may try it at some point and see what kind of feedback we get from it. But the other thing is we have to restrict how many versions of something we can post since we do have limited space. And I know that posting an h.264 video at 720p that is 44 minutes long is around 1gb, so this one would presumably be around 500mb which is still too large. However it might work well for the resolution we are currently doing, either providing a better picture or a smaller file size. So we'll look into it. Unfortunately though our video team is really small, and smaller than it was last year and we are all limited on what we can do. So for now this is the best that I can give you free. :57:

I used to encode and upload videos for a website once in a while and I've seen a lot of websites with videos, in a lot of cases their quality doesn't come near to this one so that's true :). And about quality complaints; people just like to complain, even if something is free.

As for the problems with x.264 it is true that it can be a pain in the butt to do, I've only recently started experimenting with it and even with a brand new computer it takes quite some time to encode.

Interesting, thanks for the input about x.264. I think I'll start playing around with it a bit and perhaps take a survey of people and see what the majority prefer. One thing I do like about DivX is that there are dvd players out there that support it and I know people do like to download my divx versions, burn them to a disc and watch them on their tv instead of at a computer. Which is also why I aim for 720x400 when I can. So I'm not familiar with any dvd players that can playback x.264 but then again I haven't been looking for it.

Do you have any programs you can recommend for encoding x.264? Perhaps sometime you can help do a few videos for us. :D

Which version are you trying to view? If the DivX version, you need the free divx codec found at divx.com. Please see the Video FAQ (http://www.friendscafe.org/videofaq.shtml) for more info. I would also recommend trying a player such as VLC or Media Player Classic.

They are compressed to prevent streaming and to include a readme.txt file, among other reasons. If you are on Windows XP or Vista, just download the file and you'll be able to extract it in Windows Explorer. If not, you can download a small free program like winzip which will easily unzip it. :57:

I sort of have developed a process going from .ts files to x.264 files. Right now it involves converting the .ts file to mpeg with a program called HDTVtoMPEG after which I edit them using an MPEG editor. From that I go to x.264 with a program called Staxrip which is an all in one application basically, you just put in the settings and it does the rest for you. But even using that it takes my Intel Core2Duo E6750 with 2GB of RAM over half an hour to encode a five minute video. (I actually practiced with this video where I managed to get full HD the source video).

I don't know any x.264 support DVD players either yet (except for one very obvious one, every blu ray player out there but those are very specific x.264 codecs), there are too many varities of the codec. My mother's DVD player supports DivX and that even plays Xvid videos which comes in handy at times, pretty much every new Philips DVD player has that support these days.

Sure I'd be be willing to help on a video, just pm me.
