When Jess is convinced by May Belle that she saw someone in the kingdom of Terabithia and thinks its Leslie, Jess really starts to wonder if Leslie did die. He goes out on a quest with May Belle tagging along to find out if Leslie is still alive, but just not found yet.

Chapter 1: All Alone

May Belle was all alone in the kingdom of Terabithia, painting a picture in the tree house. She heard some wood and leave crackle. She looked back instantly, fearing something was watching her. She just shrugged it off and went back to painting her beautiful picture of a pony. She looked back again, just in case, and saw water rippling. This was the time when she panicked. She started to whimper and suddenly heard voices. "Hello? Anyone out there?" she stood up on the tree house and closed her eyes as it became a kingdom. She grabbed her sword and started to fling it everywhere, just in case. The trees were taller then anything, and she gazed at them in excitement. She smiled, but suddenly, she saw a shadow of something running as fast as a jaguar through the trees. She couldnt quite capture what it was, but she started to breathe heavily. "Jess! Jess!" she screamed. "Help! I need help!" Jess wasnt answering quickly enough, so she hid in the tree house and cried and screamed for him.

Chapter 2: Jess Comes

Jess heard his name being called out while him and his dad were joking around, watering the plants. "Jess!" he heard from a distance. Jess looked up immediately and yelled "Leslie?" and ran off as fast as he could. "Aww no not again" his dad said, while shaking his head. Jess ran across the bridge and heard someone crying. He heard it from the tree house and climbed up there. "Leslie! Im coming!" he yelled, climbing on the ladder. He slipped a few times, but he struggled to get up there, and saw May Belle crying and shaking and screaming.

Chapter 3: Jess Is Here...and Leslies Not?

"May Belle, you know youre not supposed to be in the kingdom alone and you know that!" Jess said. "You could be in serious danger without me!" he yelled. "Im sorry, but Ellie was making fun of my pony picture and I needed somewhere where nobody would laugh. "I think it looks really pretty" Jess said, smiling. "Thank you" May Belle said, hugging Jess. "Youre welcome" Jess said, hugging back. "I swore I heard Leslies voice" Jess said, shaking his head. "That was me" May Belle said. "Well I guess you sound a lot like Leslie then" Jess replied laughing. "Come on lets go" said Jess, picking up May Belle. May Belle got down from his arms and picked up the picture of her pony and grabbed his hand. They started to walk home and then May Belle decided to add something "Wait Jess --" May Belle said. Jess looked at her like 'What?'. She was about to say something about the shadow she saw and the water and everything, but she decided not to bother him, to not make him mad. She just shook her head, and he shook his head back and laughed, as they went home they talked about her pretty pony picture.

Chapter 4: Hauntings

May Belle had finally been tucked in and she had gone to sleep. But she had nightmares of that thing that was running through the forest. She gruntled and whined in her sleep. Everything got mixed up in her her head, and her little 7 year old body couldnt take it anymore. She screamed and yelled and kicked. Jess came running into the room and started shaking May Belle "May Belle, May Belle whats wrong?" Jess asked. "Jess, Im sorry I didnt tell you before, but I saw something in the forest and it was a shadow and it ran fast and I got scared and --" "What did it look like?" Jess asked. He wanted to get down to the bottom of this. "What did it look like?!" he yelled again. "I dont know!!" May Belle yelled back. "Tomorrow, Im gonna have to go out there" he mumbled. "I wanna go too!" May Belle said. "No, you cant go, for your safety." "No I want too!" May Belle said. "No you cant! And you better not tell mom about any of this" Jess said. "I will if you dont take me!" May Belle said."Fine, you can go! But you stay in the back of me" Jess said. "Okay!" May Belle yelled. "Shh!" Jess said. "Now go back to sleep" he said as he walked away and into his bed.
I think its Leslie. No it cant be. Shes dead...

Something passed by him and he swore it was Leslie. "Stay here" Jess said, pushing back May Belle. Jess ran after what was going through the trees and stopped. "Jess, whyd you stop?" May Belle asked. Jess turned around. "Lets go home." he said, walking away.

Chapter 8: May Belle!

May Belle ran as fast as she could in the other direction. Jess ran after her and she treid to run faster in the hot, humid, forest. Jess ran faster and faster. He was hallucinating again. He saw May Belle running faster then him. He stopped running and took deep breaths and yelled at nothing. but what he thought was May Belle.
He stopped hallucinating. He looked back and saw May Belle, laying on the ground unconscious.

May Belle wasnt breathing as Jess kept on shaking her. Her little body was dehydrated. Jess ran to the stream and carried May Belle with him. He tried putting hot water on her face but it wasnt working. He carried her back home. He knew he was going to be in trouble, but he had to save May Belle before she got so cold something would go wrong.

Chapter 10: What did you do?

Jess finally had carried her home. "Dad!!!" Jess yelled. Jess' dad ran out to find May Belle unconscious. "Sue!" Jess' dad yelled. [[Sue is the mom :P]] Jess' mom and and sisters ran out to find May Belle. Jess' mom gasped and started to cry. "Nice going dumb brother" Ellie yelled. "Shut up!" Jess said and pushed Ellie into the mud. Jess' mom looked at Jess with dissapointed eyes and picked her up and nudged her inside. "What did you do?" Jess' dad asked fiercely. Jess' mom signaled his dad too calm down. But his dad wouldnt stop. "I didnt do anything! We were running in the forest and she got dehydrated" Jess said, out of breath. Jess' dad grabbed May Belle from Jess arms and started to yell about Jess about how he was so irresponsible and how Jess should live with another family if he was gonna treat his family this way, when it wasnt his fault. Jess' eyes welled up with tears. Jess' dad took May Belle into the house and put her on fluids. Jess' mother ran after his father and Jess sighed and ran into the house, and into his room, while his dad yelling echoed in his head.

Chapter 11: Running Away

Jess felt unwanted. May Belle was all well again and his parents were still making him feel horrible. All of his dads yelling was still in his head, and he knew it was going to be stuck in there forever. He kept on looking around, doing nothing. He felt like running away. And that was just the thing to do.

It was about two o clock in the morning, and Jess had packed some things in a backpack and was about to head into the forest of Terabithia. He went to May Belles room and looked at her and smiled. He went downstairs and slammed the door shut, he walked out of the house and sighed. He shifted his backpack to his left shoulder and walked away to the forest.

Jess was walking around and smiled. He knew he was better off without his family now. He felt a chill by him and knew this was unusual. He was bleeding horribly, and could barely see, and before he closed his eyes, he saw a figure, that looked like a young girl.

Chapter 13: Whoa.

Jess woke up in a tent. He didnt even remember what happened. All he knew was that he ran away from home. He felt to comfortable to get out of the tent. He saw fire crackling to keep him warm and a bottle of water to keep him cool. He looked around and smiled. A troll, or something mustve done that. He didnt know this, but he was wrong. It was actually a person who did this for him, but that was the last thought in his head. And for the sake of Terabithia, he was going to find Leslie.
That was his first thought.

He started to look around quietly. He could feel the wind and everything rushing around him. He started to think...

Chapter 15: Sigh and Shake

Jess just sighed and shaked it off. He was determined and ready. He climbed up the tree house and went on the roof. He called out her name a few times and sighed. At this point, Im never going to find here. This could all just be fake, he thought. No. He wasnt going to give up like that. He climbed on the branch of a tree before the tree house steadily, grabbing onto whatever he could not to fall off. He was planning to climb on the top of the tree. He was on the 4th branch when it cracked. It wasnt falling yet, he sighed a sigh of relief. He finally got on the 4th branch. He put his hands up in victory.
Then, just as he was relieved and happy, finally determined to find Leslie...
The branch snapped in half where his feet where standing.

Jess started to fall and yell. He knew he was going to die now. He just couldnt be alive after this huge drop down. He tried to grab onto any branches he could, but he just couldnt hold onto any. Jess couldnt see anybody from the morning light, but he knew it was a person. The person was very strong, and pulled him up to the branch. Jess recognized the persons voice but just couldnt recognize who it was. "Come on, lets go down to the tree house" the person said. They want me too see who he, or she is. Jess took his\her directions and followed the person into the tree house. He tried suggestions of the person, but kept shaking his head, because he didnt seem to have the right answer. As he followed the person into the tree house, the person was being uncovered, and Jess realized who it was.
He gasped.

Jess evntually grabbed her hand and got up, and as they got out of the tree house, they started to walk around the kingdom and talk.

Leslie was obviously hurt. "Jess! I really dont know what youre talking about, I was coming back next week." "OH BIG SURPRISE!! YOUR PARENTS MOVED WITH PT AND IVE HAD TOO LIVE WONDERING HOW YOU WERE FOR 4 MONTHS!!?? DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH YOU PUT ME THROUGH! YOURE SUCH A SELFISH FRIEND!!!" Jess yelled. Leslies eyes swelled up with tears, and Jess had now realized it was wrong for him too blow up at her like that. "Leslie, I--" Jess said. "No, let me talk. Im sorry I wanted some time alone! Yes youre the best thing I ever had in my entire life, but what if I need some personal time? Now I know its wrong! I-I-Im j-just s-sorry. Sorry okay?" Leslie said, her voice trembling and tears rolling down her cheek. Jess was about too say something, but she just ran away.

Chapter 22: Dang it.

Jess sighed. He couldnt do anything now. She had run off. Run off for good. Whyd he have too do that, just blow up? He sat down and just thought, about all the good times he had with Leslie and everything, all of these things flashed back in his head.
5 HOURS LATER
It was night and he was still in the same place he had been. Leslie wanted to be here and he respected that. He knew thier friendship was over and he couldnt do anything about it. He gave up, and he gave up for good. No turning back now. He sighed and stood up, and started to walk over the bridge. Jess felt a little uneasy on the bridge, it felt creaky and unsteady. The boards were making weird noises, seeming they were going to break down any second. He just ignored that for now and walked over the bridge, with his head hung down.
But right then, when he got to the end of the bridge...
The boards snapped in half and Jess fell into the water, and his jeans cought onto a hook in the stream, and the current rose more as he struggled to get up and gasp and choke for air.

Chapter 23: I hear something.

Leslie was writing in a little pocket sized journal of her she always kept in her pocket and heard something choking, or something. Strange... Leslie thought. She stood up and called out random names...except for Jess'. She couldnt even think about Jess and how much he had hurt her. She even teared up at the thought of him...and she also thought he had left. She started to walk to where the sound was coming from, and where she found it was by the bridge, which was broken. She gasped at the sight and then saw Jess underwater. "JESS!" she yelled. She ran across the bridge, dodging the hole in it, and ran to the side of the stream where Jess was underwater, and she extended her hand out to him once again.
But this time, he wasnt grabbing it.

Leslie realized he wasnt grabbing her hand and screamed. She thought he had died. Then he came up and gasped and went back down. "JESS!" she screamed again. This was no use. No, this was her best friend and she could never give up on friends. Then she started to realize Jess was right. She had caused everyone grief, and now she was guilty. The world seemed as it was going in slow motion and everything was flashing, coming back to her. No, this wasnt important. She had to focus too keep Jess alive. "COME ON JESS!" Leslie yelled, about to cry. The water had cleared from the blurriness and she saw a hook engraved into Jess' jeans. She knew what she could do now. She took a deep breath and went underwater.

Chapter 25: Saved by the...Leslie?

Leslie took a dive underwater and saw Jess unconscious. She now knew she had less time before he...*gulp* left...she went up for air and took her biggest breath, then dove back down and went too the bottom of the stream. After about 5 minutes, she finally got his jeans too be unhooked to the hook. Jess floated up, still not breathing. Leslie still had enough strength too carry him to the surface [yes, she is strong :P] and shook Jess a few times, but couldnt feel anything, a pulse or anything. NOTHING.
She screamed and started to cry, and tears rolled down her eyes.
Jess suddenly started to cough and slowly started to breathe.
He finally got the strength to rise up, and Leslie started to cry tears of happiness and hugged Jess.

It was almost dawn and Jess was still recovering while Leslie told him the story, then Jess remembered what he did to her. "Look, about the yelling thing--" Jess said, but got but got cut off. "No...you were right. I was only thinking of myself and...Im sorry" Leslie said. "Im sorry too. Lets just put this all behind us" Jess said, then smiled. "Sounds good" Leslie said. And they hugged. "So...I want to go back to civilization" Leslie said. "That sounds good...we can call your parents, and school starts in a week" Jess said. "Sounds like a plan" she said. They both stood up and held hands. Jess felt awkward, so he let go, and they laughed. They headed home, to where they belonged.

As they walked home, Jess was nervous as he knocked on his door, and his mom opened it with a phone on her shoulder. She gasped and saw Jess & Leslie. She screamed and hugged Jess and his dad immediately ran out. He hugged Jess and Jess' mom was talking to Leslie. "What happened?" Jess' mom gasped in amazement of Leslie alive, and soaking wet. "Long story" she said, laughing. Jess' mom and Leslie went inside to get cleaned up. Jess' dad remained hugging Jess. "Im sorry, son" he said. "Im fine, its okay" Jess said, hugging back.

Today was the first day of school again. As Jess sat down at his desk, he looked over and didnt see Leslie. He started to panic but then the principal brought Leslie in. The kids had all known the story and they were happy too have her back. Leslie waved just like she did on the first day of school, but she was looking at Jess. And Jess waved back and smiled.
