Life has it's paths, This is mine- Miley age 17

"Miley's only 17" said a blonde haired girl. "She..she can't be gone, she can't be!"
The girl started to cry and was comforted by a brown haired boy called Oliver.
"Lilly, I can't believe it either, but she is...my baby girl has...I can't even say it. She's..dead." Miley's dad said to Lilly and Oliver.


"WHY THOUGH! WHY HER! WHY NOT SOMEONE ELSE! Why did she have to go, she had her whole life in front of her, she had plans Mr Stewart! It's not fair! It's just not fair! Lilly cried out and ran to catch air.

Her best friend, her person, had died from cancer, she had it for a while but never told her friends, she knew it was terminal, she knew there was nothing they could do, but she accepted it and wanted to live the rest of her life to the fullest.

She was only 17, only 17 Lilly kept repeating to herself. 17, my age, best friends forever...

Chapter 1

"Bud? It's time for school darlin' Bud? Robbie called up to Miley's room.
"Dad, no-ones going to answer, she's..she's..gone Jackson said, his lip trembled at the fact that his sister had died. "I guess...we have to...move on"
Robbie turned around and walked back into the kitchen, he missed his daughter terribly.
"I know Jackson, I know we do." He told his son. "The nurse said Miles had left a box of stuff for everyone, I said I'd go pick it up today, but I think it's going to be to hard to step foot in that place"
Jackson looked up from his cereal, he couldn't eat it, he ate it about 2 weeks ago with his baby sister sat next to him.
"I'll go, i'll go pick it up" He offered.
He picked up his keys and headed for the door.

Lilly's House.
Lilly was sat in her room, her face was tear stained, her eyes red.
"Nobody's perfect, i gotta work it, again and again, till i get it right..." Lilly sang, her voice weak, she was looking at her pictures. One of Miley, Oliver and her in London. European tour 2007 Lilly whispered.

Oliver's house.
He was sat outside, his eyes staring at the sea, he and Miley were standing here not too long ago. He didn't take his eyes of the sea, the waves splashing as they hit the beach.
"Miley...baby, i wish you were here, you were my girl, my best friend. I miss you so much, so so much" He said, a single tear rolled down his cheek. "Please come back please, please..."

The hospital.


Jackson parked his car and took a deep breath before getting out. He stepped out slowly and walked into the hospital. He felt so weird, he had a feeling he never had before. He walked into this hospital with a sister and walked out without one. He went to find the nurse, he had to go the floor when Miley was.
“Hello, I'm looking for Nurse McGuire?” Jackson asked at the nurse's station.


“That's me, You're Miley's brother, I have the box for you” He took the box from her and walked out of the hospital as fast as he could.


He got back to his car and called Lilly and Oliver telling them to come over to the house, to get the stuff Miley left for them.


The house.
Robbie, Jackson, Lilly and Oliver were sat around a table on the patio, the box was in the middle of the table. They were staring at the box.


“...are we going to open it?” asked Oliver.


He reached for the box, but was then stopped by Lilly.
“We shouldn't open it, Robbie should” she said, and pushed the box near to him.
Robbie slowly took the lid of the box, he peered inside, he looked at the lid, there was a note. He read it out loud.


To whoever reads this, i expect it's you daddy!


I'm gone now, but don't worry any more, I'm with mommy now. I don't want any tears or sad faces from you guys, You can move on without me. But i assure you, I'll always be here, just think of me and I'll be there, Lilly, i love you so much and I will miss you so much, we will still be best friends, forever and ever. By the way at the funeral, please can i have white lillies? They're a sign of peace and Momma loved them. I know it sounds terrible saying about funerals but i know, i know, you'll make it beautiful. Oliver, promise me, you won't be a doofus when you get older! Hehe, i'm kidding, i love you boy, i really do, my best friend, I'm going to miss you.
Jackson, my brooo! I have a feeling you're gonna miss me!! You miss me, you miss mee!! Hehe, i miss you too, i have no-one to irritate now! Btw, don't fail science, it is important!
Dad, don't be sad over me not being there, because i'm with mommy, We're safe here, Mommy will look after me now. Don't blame yourself because i had cancer, it's not your fault, things like that happen, just like with grandma, she had it too and she died but she joined mommy too. We're here together and we're safe.
I miss you daddy, i miss Jackson, I miss Lilly and I miss Oliver, but we'll meet again some day, some day. I'm really tired now and I have a feeling, it's not going to be much longer.
Goodbye, it's not a proper goodbye because we're all going to be together again someday.

After reading the letter, Robbie, looked up to see 3 red tear stained faces. Lilly had her face in her hands, Oliver's eyes were glazed, he stared at the sea again, Jackson, stared at the table.


“I guess, I should call the funeral place now...” Robbie said, getting up from the table.


Lilly, looked up and got the her letter from the box and the diary, she clutched it to her chest, Oliver, stopped looking at the sea, saw what she had done and did the same, he reached into the box, got his letter and then left the Stewart house.

The Beach.


Oliver ran from the Stewart house all the way to the beach.


He went to a spot where no-one else went. This was his and Miley's spot.


He sat on the rock marked with his name, he looked across and saw the rock with 'Miley and Olliee together foreverrr'
He smiled, Miley loved to put extra letters onto words.
He opened his letter.


Oliver.
Get up off that rock boy! Go down to the ocean!


“How...how did she know i'd be here?!” he said to himself.


I bet you're really confused right now aren't you?
I know you too well, baby, just remember even though i'm not actually there, i'll still be there. Just think of me. I'm going to miss you so so much, you were my first love, weird though cos you were my dorky best friend haha, who would have thought! JAKE RYAN AND LILLY TRESCOTT!!! haha that was a very funny day? Remember? Jake asked Lilly out then fell off the surf board. But anyway, this is about us.
Oliver, i want you to have a full life, i had one, and now i want you to have one. You will go get married to some brunette , yes she must be brunette, well i have a feeling she will be, and you'll have lots of babiess!! and you must promise me, you and Lilly will be best friends forever!


Under my rock, there are some more letters for you, I wrote you one every day, from the day, they said i was terminal. It's not like that book though P.S I love you.. Oh right you don't know it, ask Lilly.

Lilly left the Stewart house quietly, she didn't know where to go, she didn't want to go home, she didn't want to go the beach, she wanted to be alone. She felt like she was searching for Miley but all she found was herself.


It was then when she stood still, she felt a push come upon her, something was telling to her to go the beach. “Miley” she said.
She ran to the beach as fast as she could, she ran and ran.


When she arrived, she slumped to the floor, out of breath, she ripped open the letter.




LILLY!
My best friend, my person, i'm sorry i'm not there, i wish i was, it's going to be stressful soon, what with exams and all. But! I know for sure, you're gonna fail, btw, Photosynthesis is how plants make food, nothing to do with photography babe! You're still dating Jake ryan i hope? Me and him weren't meant to be, you two were. Me and Oliver were meant to be but i feel guilty at the fact that i'm leaving him...and you, i don't want to leave Lilly, I don't, I want to be here, i want to grow up and get married and do the whole thing. I have to get a hold of myself! I have to accept that i'm not going to be able to do all the things i wanted. Lilly, promise me, you'll do everything i wanted? Go to australia, i never go to tour there, I wanted to but then i got ill. Anyway, I didn't actually tell you i had cancer until it was too late. That was about 2 years ago when they told me. It's all my diary, It will tell you. I'm missing you so much Lils, you are my best friend in the whole world. OMG what do i do about Hannah Montana?, Lilly i want you to tell everyone about the Miley/HM thing. I want everyone important to me to be at the funeral. So invite everyone you know. I bet my dad hasn't even made plans, has he? He didn't do that with Mom either, he left it till last minute. Lilly, i want Lillies there k? Lots of white Lillies. It reminds me of you. Wear something from the hannah closet too, there's lots of stuff in there so make sure you do something with it.


I'm getting very tired now, I wrote my last entry in my diary just now. Don't read it first, read it last.

Lilly looked up from the letter, she saw Oliver there, she looked him in the eye, he sat down beside her and they both hugged and cried together.

Robbie was on the phone. The funeral place called to say they could fit the date in etc.
He had a flashback to when they were in the doctors.


“Miley, I'm sorry to say this but it turns out that the cancer has spread...” The doctor said.
“What do you mean? What are you trying to say?” Miley said, tears falling down her face.
“Well, it means that..it's gotten worse and..” He said before Miley cut him off.
“There's nothing you can do..It's terminal..” she said.
“I'm so sorry, Miley, you have about 2 years left. That's just an estimate though” the doctor told her.
“Great, 2 years, better start living then.” Miley said, getting up and leaving the doctor's surgery.


Robbie remembered when his wife died. It felt like a replay of the plans for the funeral. He looked out to where Jackson was, still sitting in the same spot, looking at the table.


Jackson looked up from the table, reached into the box for the letter. He couldn't open it, he couldn't bring himself to. He put it back in the box, picked up his keys, and went for a drive.


Robbie saw this and walked outside, he got his letter and opened it.


Dad.
Don't leave the funeral plans too late, That would be silly.
You'll be okay dad, you still got Jackson. And i will be here all the time..even though I'm not.
Make sure the whole Hannah Montana thing is resolved, Tell everyone Hannah died, and that Hannah is me. You understand what i mean, I'm just very tired. I'm irritated at the stupid doctors, they didn't help me.
Get Aunt Dolly to fly out here and Grandma, and everyone from Tennessee
Make sure everyone is here. I don't know what to write now.
I'm going to go to sleep now

He felt a pang of heartache when he put the letter down, he was determined to sort everything out. He called the family, he told them to fly out, he called the flower place, everything was sorted in a matter of hours.

It was a week later, the funeral happened, Miley was buried, everyone knew of the Hannah Montana thing. It was handled surprisingly well. Aunt Dolly told the media as Lilly couldn't face it, and the media were shocked. Everyone wondered why, this poor girl had to hide behind a persona. Especially when she was dying. Hannah Montana/ Miley Stewart was now one person.


Lilly's House


Lilly, had brought herself to read Miley's diary. She sat on her bed, took a deep breath, opened the diary. She turned to the page with the first entry.
“I can do this, I can do this right Miley?” she said.


First entry.


I went to the doctor's today. They told me I had cancer. I laughed in their face. As if I could have cancer. I'm only 15. People who are 15 don't have cancer. Guess the odds were against me. I wonder if it'll go? I'm not going to die from it. People beat it all the time don't they? I'm going to beat it. I'm Miley, I'm Hannah Montana. I'm going to beat It.
Date with Jake Ryan later.
I don't like him really. He likes Lilly. I like...love Oliver.


Lilly turned the page to the 2nd entry.


Second Entry
I'm going on tour. To europe. Well since i'm going to die, who am i kidding, I feel weak all the time. I push myself to perform. I love to perform. I am a performer. This will be my last tour. I think i'm going to ask to make it a World Tour. Hannah Montana [[Last]] World Tour. Life has paths, diary. I'm making mine.


Lilly didn't feel right reading the diary. She closed it and put it in her draw.
“Miley, Miley, Miley, you make me cry girl...”


Lilly, sat on her bed again. She felt like Miley was looking down on her.
She looked at her watch, it was time for her date with Jake.
“Time to get pretty”

The beach, Miley and Oliver's part.


Oliver was sat down on the rock watching the sea again. He spent his time just watching the waves and thinking about Miley. He always questions why she's not there anymore. He understands why but he can't bare to move on without her. Without her laugh, without her smile.


Oliver remembered the letters that Miley had wrote to him. He decided that now was the time to open one.


Oliver.
I loved our date last night, we went to that little restaurant over looking the beach. I love the beach, the waves are so beautiful. You are beautiful hehe. As you know, I'm not going to around much longer, well the doctors say they can help me but i don't know, so me, you and Lilly are all going to go to England! Yep! Hannah Montana European tour 2007! you and Lilly are my life. Don't ever leave me.

Oliver remembered the date like it was yesterday. Even though it was 2 years ago. He remembered what Miley wore and how her hair was. He missed her now more than ever.


His phone rang. “Hello? Lilly? I'm so glad it's you”

“Lilly? I'm here, what's wrong?” asked Oliver.


“Oliver! I need your help! I have a date tonight and I don't know what to wear!” said Lilly, walking out from her closet with tears streaming.


“Hey hey!, Lilly it's okay” Oliver said pulling her into a hug. “I'll try to help you, i'm a guy, i know what a hot girl looks like” he said laughing.


“Oliver!” Lilly said punching his arm.


“Lillylou- what are we gonna do with you! What do you have in your closet?” Oliver said walking into her closet and picking out clothes.


“Oliver wait- there is some stu-” Lilly tried to tell him.


“Here!” Oliver picked out one of the Hannah outfits, he didn't recognize it.


Lilly looked at the dress, she looked at Oliver, she looked at the floor.


“Lilly...what is it?” Oliver said, he placed the dress on the chair next to him, he walked to Lilly, he lifted her chin up and saw her eyes. Her blue eyes were filling up with tears. “It's a Hannah dress isn't it?”


Lilly looked down again, she nodded slowly. “I tried to tell you..I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to see it, I just got given the clothes by Jackson, I didn't put them away...” Lilly said, her voice got shaky.


“Lil, don't worry about it, I think you should wear this dress...and with these shoes, and those earrings...and this necklace and this purse.” Oliver said.


Lilly stood there, watching him pick out all these items from her closet.


“Um..Oliver?”


“What?...ooh right...” Oliver noticing what he'd done, he started to laugh, then Lilly started to.
After an hour, Lilly was ready, her hair was perfect, after it was styled by her mom. She looked fabulous in the Hannah dress,


“Thank you...” Lilly said to Oliver.


“For what?” he said.






“Helping me out of course!” Lilly said. “You know I think I'm gonna dye my hair brown, Miley said it would look cool on me so maybe I will.”


“Brunette huh?” Oliver said...thinking about that letter.

Lilly's House


“Okay, Lilly, you can do this, Miley would want you to do this, she'd come out with some random Tennessee quote or somethin'” Lilly said, looking in the mirror.
Oliver just left and she was all ready for her date with Jake. She was looking out of her window to see if a car, or limo, in Jake's case.
She waited for around 10 minutes and saw a strech limo pull up outside her house. She ran downstairs, heard the doorbell ring but waited, because she didn't want to see too eager.


“Jake..hey..” Lilly said to him.
“Sup, Lils, hey i'm sorry about Miley, I'm gonna miss her a lot” He said, really fast, Lilly couldn't understand.
“What?” she said.
“Never mind” Jake said. “Hey we have reservations, we better go now.” Jake grabbed her hand and took her to the limo.


Later on that evening, Lilly couldn't stop thinking about Oliver. The way he looked at her earlier, she couldn't take it from her mind.


“Lilly, order anything you want babe, it's a special occasion” Jake said to her without looking up from his menu. “Hey, i wanted to talk to you about Hannah Montana..i mean Miley”


“Oh okay...sure” She said, she felt her eyes moisten with tears.


“How come she never told anyone about it, i mean i dated both Miley and Hannah and i never noticed” Jake said.


“Because, she just wanted a normal life, to not be followed around all the time by the paparazzi” Lilly told him bluntly.


“Oookay, let's order now. Hey waitress!” Jake called.


“Hey, I'm Hanna and i'll be your waitress for this evening” she said, she didn't look at Lilly, only at Jake.


“Oh my gosh, you're the zombie slayer!” Hanna said.


Lilly rolled her eyes. “For gods sake, it's been 3 years since that stupid show” she thought.


“Yep Hanna that's me” He winked at her.


Jake ordered for the both of them, something Lilly hated, she acted as if she was okay with it.


“So Lilly, when did Hannah get cancer?” Jake said, with no feeling.


“She got it when she was 15 Jake, and it was Miley not Hannah” she said.


“Potato Patata, same thing right?” He said, Lilly got irritated by his comments. “I'll be right back.”


“Miley, Jake is a jerk” Lilly said quietly.


“I slayed you once don't make me slay you again!” Jake was talking to all the waitresses at the restaurant.
“Jake, you're such a good actor” said one
“Jake you are so hot!” said another
“Thank you girls, thank you!” he said, he obviously wasn't tired of the attention. “Hey Hanna, can i have your number? I think I lost mine” he said winking at her again.


Hanna gushed. “I'll give you my number if you promise never to use that line again” she laughed.


Jake went back to his table with Lilly, she didn't speak to him for the rest of the night.


“Hey, guys, enjoy your meal?” said Hanna.
“It was okay” said Lilly looking out the window next to her.
“It was great thank you Hanna, excellent service too” Jake said smiling.
Jake took the bill from her, and she walked away. Jake went to the bathroom and Lilly looked at the bill. “$300 tip?! $300, this boy is crazy.” she said.


Lilly waited for him to come back and she asked that he take her home.


“Okay..Lilly, i was gonna take you to the beach but if you don't feel good i understand” he said.


“Thank you” she said. She was glad to be leaving this jerk.

Oliver was sat in his room. He couldn't take his mind of Lilly, her hair smelled like coconut, her eyes when they twinkled.
He kept thinking of her and Miley, “Crap” he thought, “Miley...”
He was freaking out, pacing across his room, his breathing getting faster.
“I can't have feelings for Lilly?!” he yelled. “I don't, no of course I don't, I can't”
Oliver felt guilty towards Miley, he wanted to yell at something, at someone. He decided to go talk to Mr. Stewart to see if he knew anything.


Lilly's house.
“Bye, Lilly!” Jake called out to her, he didn't walk her to her door. “Yo driver!, take me back to that food place, I'm gonna go meet Hanna!” Lilly caught the end of that sentence as they drove away.
“Bye Jake...YOU JERK!” Lilly yelled, feeling a sense of relief, she turned around and walked into her house. She saw a note on the fridge as she walked into the kitchen.


“Lilly, gone to New York for Business trip, meeting Dad there. Mrs Oaken is coming to get you at 11 tomorrow, hope you'll be alright on your own tonight, if not call one of your friends!

“Great, just when you need some mommy support” She said. “Pyjamas, ice cream and movie time”


Oliver was walking to the Stewart house, when he found himself walking up the driveway to Lilly's house.


“Nooo! Allie and Noah can't break up!” Lilly cried, she was watching her favourite movie, The Notebook.
Oliver heard this from the outside, he rang the doorbell. Lilly came to the door, she was wearing pink pyjamas and had red eyes from where she had been crying.
“Oliver? What are you doing here?”

It was 3 months later, Lilly and Oliver had gotten close, she still hadn't read anymore of Miley's diary, she didn't want too. Oliver, was sure enough of his feelings for Lilly, he felt so strongly for her.
Lilly dyed her hair brown and had hair extensions, she looked totally different but it suited her.


“Hey, Oliver, I'm thinking about singing in the talent show, what do you think?” Lilly asked.
“I don't know, Miley was the one who sang, not you” he said bitterly.
“Woah, that was harsh” Lilly replied
“Yeah, so, I really don't need reminding of her not being here do I?” Oliver walked away.
Jackson worked at the school part time, just helping out etc. he watched as this happened, he walked up to Lilly and hugged her, Lilly was like his sister, she always had been, he felt like he had to look out for her.
“Lilly, I think you should sing, I've heard you sing, you're really good” he told her.
“You think so? I think Miley would be proud of me if I did and plus i'd be really stoked” she said.
“Yeah, she'd be proud” Jackson remembering something.


Flashback


“Lilly, you sing that bit and I'll sing this bit and then it'll be remixed!” Miley squeled in the recording studio

“Jackson? Hellooo?” Lilly said waving at him

“I ain't got a problem Jackson what the hell is yours?” Oliver yelled back
“Don't talk to Lilly that way, what has she ever done to you?” Jackson said lowering his voice.
“She's not your sister, don't defend her, you don't have to! Miley was your sister, your only sister!” Oliver said, still yelling, sadness present in his voice.
Oliver looked away from Jackson, he felt so angry at him but at the same time, guilty for saying that to Lilly, he loved Lilly.


“Dude, you know how much i care for Lilly, she's been like a sister to me since i met her. You know that, heck, i would have thought you knew that!” Jackson said, he didn't understand and he didn't sympathise all that much.
“Miley would have wanted you to move on, not to be stuck in the past.”


Oliver needed to hear that, he really did, he felt like he was stuck, replaying everything over.
“Yeah...yeah, i guess you're right...i have to go” Oliver said, rushing off to the beach.


He got to the beach, he got the letters, tore them all open.


“Oliver, when I'm gone move on please” said one.
“Oliver, you'll make some girl feel the luckiest in the world one day” said another.
“Please, please move on, you have to promise me or I'll never forgive you for making me fall in love with you” he looked at the last letter.


The words felt like something was forcing him to go, get away from Miley. Miley did want that for him didn't she?


“Miley I love you!” Oliver yelled, the rain fell down on their heads in the cold New York City weather.
“I've waited so long for you to say that!” Miley screamed back. Oliver walked up to her and kissed her passionately.
“Finally! We've been waiting for you to get together for months!” Lilly yelled, ruining the moment.
