The first settlers that came from europe to the U.S.A. were the Dutch. Yes it seems like school but these are accually interesting facts:
1. The Dutch were the one's who invented,or made, the clothes you'd read about in Laura Ingalls Wilder writing
2. They wore sunbonnets and long sleeves in the summer was because it was against their religous beliefs to get tan like the Indians a.k.a Native Americans.
3. They invented bowling, acually if you've heard of Bowling Green that's where it came from. No really. they had a bowling place called, Bowling Green. Except at first they played with 9 pins. Then the Governer of New York, the colony over-ruled by British, said on Sunday they couldn't play 9 Pin(Bowling with 9 pins) So they added another pin so they wouldn't break the law
4. Albany was called Beverwijck(sp?) and NYC, or Manhatten was called New Amsterdam.
5. The Dutch invented the donuts, and broughy cows, pigs, horses, the whole farm animal family.
6. hmm 7, they played golf, but it was called colf.
8. If you lived on a farm, you'd start working by your mother or fathers side by the age of 3.
9. The Dutch weren't the only ones here, there were also walloons, french poeple who came over because they wanted to not follow the religion they were made to. Other varitaties of people came over too.
10. Explorers, you mgiht have heard of some not all though:
Giovanni(sp?) Da Verrazzano- Explored the New York Bay area and Long Island- Died by eaten by Carib's
Henry Hudson- Duh he explored the hudson river-ran away and was never seen again
John Cabot-Forgot, I'll remeber later
Jaques(sp?) Catier- Explored the St. Lawerence River
Samuel De Champlain-Duh, explored lake Champlain and went down the St. Lawerence River to Lake Ontario and Lake Heron
Thanks for reading hope you learned something!:)
