Welcome To My Turtoral!!
First of all, you need to open up your program. You then need to go to file after the program has opened and then click on new. Then a brown box will show up and you need to leave the first box blank and then in the second box, put in 100, and in the third box put 100 as well so that the sizing is at 100x100pxs. Then once you have clicked on okay, you then get your basic avatar that is just plain white. That isnt going to look right having a little white square. So, ubove that square, there is all of the tools, File, Edit, Select, View, Image, Layer, Tools, Dialogs, Filters and Script-Fu. You need to click on file and then a drop down menu will apear. You have to go down to Open and then browse your pic/ image that you want to use and then put it into place. Once you have done that, you should have something like this-

After you have done that, you need to go along to Filters and then another drop down menu will appear. You have to go down to Filter Pack. Once you have down that, a box will show up. On the right hand side of that box, you need to click on Saturation and then another box will show up and then you need to click on the avatar bellow the bit that says Less Sat and then you click back onto the main box and then click okay. You should then have something like thsi-

After that, you have to go back along to filters and then back onto filter pack. You then have that brown box appearing again but this time, you need to click on Value and then click on the avatar underneath the bit that says Darker. You need to click that once, and then click on it again! And then you go back to the main box and then click on okay.
After clicking once-

After clicking on it twice-

You can then add text (it is best if the text is white, it will add to the old photo effect better) and then it should look really good.
