I have the same straight, brown hair too. Blah. I can't even crunch or curl it. Well, I could, I don't have enough time in the mornings though. It's always either straight, in a bun/ponytail, or my bangs are pinned up with bobby pins. I need ideas too!

i have really straight brown hair too! i model, so the hair and makeup people at p.shoots always give me awesome tips! i love to scrunch my hair (it might be the same thing as what you called crunching ur hair). you should try a curling iron...curl ur hair in 1 to 4 inch sections, let the curls cool a little, use your fingers to comb thru the curls and sleep with your hair in a high pony tail and ur hair will be wavy in the morning. also, after you take a shower, comb out your hair and take random sections of it and braid them (if you twist the hair into really tight twists and then braid ur hair, you get really pretty beachy waves!) and when you wake up and take the braids out, shake your head back and forth a few times! another thing to do is after you shower, blow dry your hair until you get all the wetness out and your hair is just a little bit damp then put baby powder on ur fingers (not too much or else ur hair will be grey-ish) and massage it on to your scalp, then blow dry it more (but dont brush your hair while ur drying it the second time or ur hair will get really poofy and frizzy!) with really high heat and keep massaging ur scalp...this will give your hair alot of volume!!
hope that helps!

I used to do braid my hair at night and have it wavy the next day, but I can't do that anymore because I have to take showers in the morning and they just wash out. :/

I have brown, curly/wavy hair, and it's about 3 or 4 inches below my shoulder. I have a problem too, I can never find a way to make it look good curly, so I just straighten it, every single day. it always gets frizzy (because it's curly!) and when it does i get some really pretty curls that come out from hiding that frame my face. Everyone says it's really pretty, so now I use product and a curling iron to make very subtle little swoops of curls around my face. I would recomend that you try to just make the best of straight hair, like I made the best of my curly hair.
these products I know are good for straight hair, because all my friends have beautiful straight hair.
shower:
-dangerously straight shampoo my herbal essences (it really doesnt make it anymore straight, it just makes straight hair look good :D)
-SAMY conditioner, with whatever hair type you have. this works for any hair. I'm using the one for dry and distressed hair cause even if it's not, it makes it shiny and smooth.
after shower:
blow dry, blow dry, blow dry! this is the magic tool. :P
it kinda depends on what look you'd want...
here's a look for grungy hair that one of my friends uses and sometimes i use if I'm really in the mood. :P
-bed head MASTERMIND. "hair candy for separation and texture."
-fluff your hair, if you want volume and even more texture.
-style your hair however you want
