Book Title: Pandemia(pronounced Pan-DEE-Me-Uh)
Author: Christopher Knight & Johnathon Rand
Grade you are in: 7th
Summary (What the book is about): Health officials have warned the world of the bird flu for years. Warned them that it will mutate, and no longer effect birds, but will jump from human to human, ending the world as we know it. But the governments around the world agree that this is simply a hoax. They should have listened. Now, the bird flu, or it's official term H5N1, truly has mutated to effect humans. Schools are closed, and more and more people are getting sick. Television and Radio stations are telling everybody to stay indoors and keep away from the sick. If you had the flu, you were going to die within 36 hours, not a doubt. The president himself died from the flu just days into the epidemic. Sierra and her older brother, Eddie, are on their own. Both their parents died from the flu, and neither of them appear to be sick. Sierra's best friend & boyfriend, Tracie and Kevin, are also alone, and join Sierra and Eddie in their fight for survival. Soon, they discover, that "looters" come around, and raid people's houses in search for food, water, anything that they can scrounge. They kill anything or anyone who gets in their way. The four young teens have seen many vulgar things, but none quite like this. Looters search through their entire block, with no exceptions with them. Though they were not found, most of their valuable things were. Then, insane people with the flu started "torching" people houses with homeade bombs, and soon enough, these teens are not just fighting for their health - they're fighting for survival.
Your thoughts/feelings on the book: This book is quite the page turner. Once you pick it up, you won't put it down until all 383 pages are read, I'm sure. Lots of things happen that you would never expect to. There are a few moments when I wasn't sure what was going to happen, and I thought for sure that that was the end, and everyone goes home and dies. I have read more than half of it, and I'm almost finished.
Appropriate Age Level (what ages you think will appreciate this book, or will understand it): Seventh grade and up, probably. It has a lot of swearing, and quite a few sexual referances. In fact, my school only lets seventh & eigth graders check it out from the library.

Let's see. Not gonna bother filling out the form :P.
+ 1984 - Ugh, I kinda hate this book? I mean, I read it twice, cause I figured it deserves a second chance since its such an important, well-known book. It still made me want to shred it to peices. You absolutely have to read it sometime in your lifetime, I feel, but that doesn't make it all that great. Basically, this book is about human civilization and the future and equality and the government spying on people. And just a bunch of other stuff that makes you want to eat the book instead of read it.
+ Rebecca - Really loved this book. It is written beautifully and is just such a captivating story. I definately recommend it, fo sho. It's a mystery, about this young girl who marries a man, Maxim, who's late wife was Rebecca. And just how this girl is haunted by Rebecca and its about Rebeccas murder.
+ The Kite Runner - Oh gosh, I loved this book. It's very mature, like I probably shouldn't have read it. It has a lot of adult content in it. But its still just a heartbreaking, fabulous story.
+ Eclipse - Duh, Twilight series. I read this a million ages ago, but I just reread it recently and can I just say how much I love it? And Twilight and New Moon? Well, I love them, a lot. Definately read them...read them.
+ The Catcher in the Rye - One of my new favorite books. There is just so much symbolism in this book that it involves a level of intellect and maturity in order to understand it. Otherwise, it will go way over your head, and you will just be bored by the story. Maybe not bored, but ready to kill yourself with the main characters ranting. Anyways, I adored it. I randomly decided to read it one night and I couldn't put it down. It's basically just a growing, maturing story, following the teenager, Holden, and just this really eventful week or so in his life. Holden is kinda super insane too, like a really weird kid, but I adore this book and him.
+ To Kill A Mocking Bird - Love this book. I have to read it for English now, but I've already read it anyways? It's such a great book, just a classic.
+ The Color Purple - I have to read this for English too. Yay Honors-Lets-Read-6-Outside-Books-This-School-Year-Along-With-Our-Books-In-Class-English! I haven't started it yet, but need to finish it by December. Has any one read it and could give me their opinion on it? Not to excited to read it...

Book Title: Cien años de soledad
Author: Gabriel García Márquez
Grade you are in: 9th
Summary (What the book is about): Wow, summary of this book...can probably best be resumed in all the adventures of the Buendía-Iguarán family, interwoven in an amazing magical realism.
Your thoughts/feelings on the book: incredible, no words to do it justice
Appropriate Age Level (what ages you think will appreciate this book, or will understand it): Supposed to read it in 12th, but I don't see why...
I've heard a lot of this book, as most people probably have, and decided to read it for fun. At first I saw the length, and it discouraged me a bit. However, the second you open the page, Márquez engulfs you into a fantastic world mixed with reality and mysticism. I found it near impossible to put this book down , and recommend it to absolutely anyone and everyone.

Author: Harper Lee
Grade you are in: 9th
Summary (What the book is about): This is a book about prejudice and growing up. Scout, a young girl, narrates this tale about her brother, dad, and narrowminded prejudice townspeople.
Your thoughts/feelings on the book: i LOVE this book. it has continually won awards and it is a great piece of literature!
Appropriate Age Level (what ages you think will appreciate this book, or will understand it): you would probably need to be at least 13 or 14 in order to understand the complexities and to analyze the book. however i read it when i was 10 and understood most of it but still you should be around 13 or 14 to fully get and appreciate this awesome book.
Agreed :) Amazing book. Several in my class thought it was slightly overrated but I thought it was fabulous. I think to enjoy the book you need to really understand what's going on, so I suggest that when you do have to read it (chances you will for school) you don't look over it. I know there are heaps of books which are considered a MUST READ but may seem somewhat boring at first, maybe this is one of them... but it really isn't ;)

Your thoughts/feelings on the book: This is most definitely the best war novel of all time. When my teacher first said we were going to read it, I was dreading it because I am not interested in war at all. However, now having read it, I am extremely glad I did because it is fantastic... truly a work of art. Even if you are not interested in war, you should read this book.

Book Title: 1984
Author: George Orwell
Grade: 10th
Summary: This book is actually a prediction of the author of what he thought the year 1984 would be like. Its about a society that is pretty much completely government controlled. they watch you everywhere on these things called telescreens, and theres this figurehead of it called Big Brother, and there are posters everywhere with a face on them and they say "big brother is watching you". The main character is Winston, a man who is against the Party (the government) and is rebelling against it.
Your thoughts/feelings on the book: at first i wasnt so sure about it since i barely had time to read and ended up speeding through it or looking at sparknotes (bad girl lol) but now ive really gotten into it and im really glad i'm actually taking time to read it through carefully. its gotten really cool and i like it ;) even though i'd HATE to be living in that place. im almost done and really want to find out how it ends.

Book Title: Twilight
Author: Stephanie Meyer
Grade you are in: 7
Summary (What the book is about): Bella is a girl who moved in with her dad in Forks. There is a guy at her school named Edward, and he is surprisingly unhumanly beautiful. But what she thinks he is isn't anything like what he really is...
Your thoughts/feelings on the book: I think that so far, this book is the greatest book ever written. Almost every person in my school has read it. Only 1 person that I know of has said that they hated the book. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!
Appropriate Age Level (what ages you think will appreciate this book, or will understand it): Well, it depends. 14 or 15 is probably the apropriate age, but then 13 and 12 year olds might be able to understand it. I'm 13, so I'd have to say no younger than 13 at the least. I think that maybe older kids would understand it more, because it has some high vocabulary that I don't understand.

Book Title: The Fighting Ground
Author:Avi
Grade you are in:5th
Summary (What the book is about):The book is about a boy, named Johnathan, who wants to go into war. He disobeys his parents, so he can. Then he realizes, that he didn't like to see pepole when they are dead. Anyway, he gets captured by 3 Hessians, who don't kill him, but might have been planning to. They go to this small house they find, and Johnathan milks a cow that is moaning. That is what led them there. Anyway, so when he goes to get a bucket out of what seems to be a shed, he finds a small boy. Later on, he asked where his mama was, and he pointed. Johnathan found them later near a bush, and he burries them, then later, he goes to find the Corporal, and brings the boy with him. If you want to read this book, I do not wasnt to say anything else.
Your thoughts/feelings on the book:I had to read it for a book group. It has a couple cursing words, and after awhile, it gets harder, because of the german speaking. There is translation in the back of the book, so u have to look back there to find it. I feel it is a very detailed book, with alot of meaning of how Johnathan felt before the war and after. I really liked it.
Appropriate Age Level (what ages you think will appreciate this book, or will understand it):11 and up, has cursing usage

When she looks down at the "Missing Child" picture, she realizes that the 3 year old girl's face was her face. This book is about how Janie deals with knowing that she has been kidnapped by her very loving and caring parents.
Your thoughts/feelings on the book: This book is one of the best books I've ever read. It's emotional, suspenseful and realistic. Caroline B. Cooney's writings on Janie's feelings make it seem so realistic and like your in the book.
Appropriate Age Level (what ages you think will appreciate this book, or will understand it): There are some parts that get confusing, but I read it in 5th grade and understood it pretty well. Your thoughts/feelings on the book: This book was great. Let's say it wasn't my favorite out of all four (yes there are four books total), but if you don't read it and decide to read the next one it might not make a lot of sense. There is A LOT of emotion in this book and it has its boring moments as does every book. Overall, I would DEFINATLY read this book if you enjoyed the first one.
Appropriate Age Level (what ages you think will appreciate this book, or will understand it): this one is a little more easy to understand then the first one, but i would recommend 11.

Your thoughts/feelings on the book: This book is about how Janie and Reeve's relationship gets screwed up. It's REALLY emotional and sad, and at times i felt like crying. Its a book that you read fast because it has almost non-stop action. It's a book in the series you CAN'T miss.

Book: 1984
Author: George Orwell
Grade: 7
Summary: It is about this guy named Winston and he lives in London, in 1984. This book was written in 1949, and the author wrote about his 'visions'. Winston lives in a world where the government watches his every move. The dictator, Big Brother, kills everyone who is not faithful to the government. They basically vanish off the face of the earth, and no one knows what happens to them. It's very strange.
Appropriate Age: I don't think it's appropriate for middle school. I don't know why it's in my teacher's library. It has lots of sexual references, and very hard to understand words. I would say high school and up.

It also deals with how one person can change something so important and make it right again only for it to fall apart.
