AVI's are posted because they are very common. They play on all computers, and in almost all media players.

And also, they are very better than any other format...mpeg,wmv,flv,asf.

Yup, except for maybe mp4 or sorenson 3, which are also pretty good.

have you tried installing the software so that you can play them?
if you get sound but no picture when you try playing it then you haven't done this
there are 2 main versions of avi :- divx and xvid

I encode my avi's in divx. if you go to http://www.divx.com. download and install the free package and you will be able to play the video's in practically any video player

you can get the xvid driver here http://www.koepi.org/XviD-1.1.2-01112006.exe

if you don't install these, then you have no hope of playing them

Sorenson 3 is a .mov format, which is the most common and reliable format on the net believe it or not, but it can be very fustrating to encode. I mainly use it to encode small videos (3-5min) to get really good quality.

Oh, yeah. I have some AOL sessions videos that are in HQ .MOV format. so, that must be sorenson 3. Hm..

Guys, if you have a Windows computer and not a Mac then convert it to WMV in Windows Movie Maker if you don't want it to be AVI.

AVI plays on a Windows computer, but if not thats a great solution. Although I wonder if it would accept an AVI if it doesn't even play on the computer you're using.

Yes it does. If you can't play AVI, go to Tools then Options and check Download Codecs Automatically and then OK. Then import the video. Drag it to the storyboard and then go to File, then Save Movie File.
